My wife and I met with Greg after seeing a Yelp post praising his services as a buyers agent. From the beginning, he was very enthusiastic and respectful (not pushy). At our first meeting, he described his experience with real estate. We talked about what to look for in a house, our specific needs, areas that would give us what we wanted for the amount we wanted to pay, etc. The conversation went on for probably an hour after which our brains were pretty full. He left us with an account on RE/MAX's web service that would let us browse houses as they came on the market and also allowed us to request a showing with him on any house(s) we wanted to see. This was in November (2010), so by then the number of houses on the market had dwindled. We were mainly interested in living in Arlington, but we checked out a few houses in Lexington as well. We don't own a car so Greg happily drove us around to view the houses we were interested in. Here's where Greg's experience in real estate really shines though. He'd take a look at the outside of the house first, pointing out the good and bad about the roof and exterior. Then he'd take us around inside and do the same for the electric system, heating system, and windows, as well as any lesser (in terms of cost to update/repair) items. Gradually, and through on-the-spot quizzing by Greg ;) , we picked up our own sense for what to look for in a house. After maybe three excursions with Greg, we independently went to a day of open houses, and with our new found knowledge one of the houses caught our eye. Though the decor was very outdated, the house had many aspects we wanted, and the "bones" (as Greg taught us) were good. We called Greg and within the days we had another viewing. Greg gave the house a good look over with us and spent time with us after to talk about the pros and cons to the house. He did a great job of giving us an objective view, and in the days in which we were deciding whether or not to put in an offer he even did some research through the town to see if we would be able to put on the addition and dormer that would eventually make this our dream home. Needless we say, we put in an offer, and with some knowledgeable bargaining Greg helped us buy our house at a price that made us happy. Through the buying process, we decided to go with Greg's "team" (inspector, mortgage broker, lawyer, etc). He told us it would make the process run smoother b/c he had worked with them all in the past and had a good relationship with them. We did follow-up with an outside mortgage broker to compare the loans that Greg's broker was offering with outside options. We decided that they were both offering basically the same loans so we went with Greg's broker based on his recommendation. We were not disappointed, the process was fairly smooth, and we were able to close on our house at the end of January, a scant two and a half months after we had met with Greg for the first time. And, two months later, we really love our house! We're gradually coming to end of the much-needed updating (pulling down wallpaper, painting, pulling up the wall-to-wall carpet to reveal the beautiful hardwood floors underneath, etc). Looking back at the buying process with Greg, choosing him as our buyer's agent was a great decision! Buying a house for the first time was stressful even with help so its hard to imagine what it would have been like without him. We tried to sell our condo last year with a different realtor and didn't even get one offer, after several months of open houses and personal viewing . Greg was great! When we first started looking at homes we didn't really know what we wanted. Greg helped us pin point the area and type of house we wanted. He was very flexible with meeting us during the week and would even make sure we had a list of open houses to go to on the weekends. Looking at houses is stressful and can be depressing when you look at what your money can really get you. But Greg helped us get out dream home for a price we could def afford.
