Dr Loitz used my wisdom teeth appt as an opportunity to convince me I needed a very expensive and traumatic surgery. He said I had something similar to TMJ, even though I had no symptoms (jaw clicking, headaches, etc) and that my jaw was deformed. He said he needed to do an 8 hour surgery in the hospital, after which my jaw would be wired shut, and I wouldn't be able to eat solid food for awhile. He said I should do this surgery before the condition got worse, and that I would have a more attractive profile. This was all new to me, so I got a 2nd and 3rd opinion. The last oral surgeon told me that 2nd opinions are a waste of time because these oral surgeons all cover for each other. After a traumatic surgery and hospital stay I was horrified to see that I now had a concave profile, where my mouth was sunken in. I looked like a freak and my relatives and coworkers didn't even recognize me even after I was fully healed. It's taken 3 corrective surgeries over 15 years from a wonderful oral surgeon, Dr. Chin in SF, to try to remedy Dr Loitz' hack job, however he could only address my upper jaw, as my lower jaw was too compromised and any additional surgery had a high risk of paralysis. I approached Dr Loitz several times to resolve the issue, but he responded by insulting me and telling me I was crazy if I wasn't happy with his work. Dr Loitz took advantage of my trust and excellent insurance (100% coverage) to do unnecessary surgery which has caused me significant time away from work, expense, and devastation every time I look in the mirror. After consulting many oral surgeons over the years, I now understand that, while the procedure was new and in vogue at the time, it was not functionally necessary for me. And while his promise of a better looking profile could have been realized with a competent surgeon, Dr Loitz apparently forgot about the geometry of tilt, so he removed way too much of my jaw. There is no remedy for me, I just don't want anyone else to become his victim. read more
