A little further down the street is The Bull, and travellers staying at the two hotels vied with each other to the telling outrageous 'tales of the road', which supposedly led to the famous phrase 'Cock and Bull story' derives. Today The Cock Hotel is a decent place for bar meals, weddings and overnight stays. There is a nice enclosed paved area away from the main street, and private car parking at the rear accessible from Vicarage Road at the rear. The bar meals are generally good value, but I've found some of their mass catering for groups to be rather disappointing.

It's steps away from The Open University so it certainly served its' purpose: A place to sleep, eat, shower, sleep, eat, and repeat. The grounds are really lovely. You can take nice walks amongst the greenery - there are trails that lead to the school campus which is great. The decor is pretty dated but it looks like they are going to be making some changes soon. The staff is really friendly and on top of things. I had to make a couple requests to address things in my room and they were handled quickly. The dining area is much like a cafeteria. It offers an array of food from healthy to straight-up fattening. But, the overall food quality is pretty bleak. I'd say my best dining experience included a bowl of shredded wheat with skim milk and a strawberry yogurt on the side. Truth. The rooms are pretty small and the beds are not as comfortable as one would like but it served its' purpose for a couple nights. If one is staying here for a week, they may not be so forgiving. As for amenities, free WIFI is a plus! That's about it - except for the bowl of candy at the front desk :) There is a bar / lounge upstairs which has a huge screen which made it nice to watch the World Cup - as our rooms were equipped with cutting edge Panasonic 8" screen old-school TV sets. There's also a pool table in the lounge if you're trying to hold off returning to your room... If one is looking for an inexpensive, purely functional place to stay in Milton Keynes, this is the spot. Lights out folks. Check-out is at 10:00a.m.!
