Dr. Green is an excellent orthopedic surgeon, he performed cutting edge arthroscopic hip surgery, which gave me another 10 years out of my hip, most recently did a total shoulder replacement, and have had multiple arthroscopic knee surgeries! So, here is my experience, 1st appointment - no doctor, he is at some camp with his son, so the physicals assistant (PA) is providing healthcare; He decides I need an MRI. The staff does not schedule the first MRI correctly, so on week 5, I finally get the MRI correct. Upon Completion of MRI - I call for follow-up, I get two options...a PA in two weeks or Doctor Green in 4 weeks, and I choose Doctor Green. 2nd appointment - no doctor a PA. The PA tells me, he reviewed my MRI and recommends surgery. He explains the next steps would be to have an appointment with Doctor Green and then the process The next day the office calls to schedule the process for 8 weeks away. At that point I informed Doctor Greens Office that I decided to go to another Doctor for the Surgery. The office said fine...and goodbye, did not seem to phase them at all. Since I have been in Sacramento, I have been to three doctors, in all three cases, I did not see a doctor, and instead I saw a PA. I never experienced this in the 13 years I lived in San Francisco. You would think that with the extent of PA use in the Sacramento area, the medical costs would be less than San Francisco, that is not the case, in fact a doctor's office appoint is higher, which makes no sense. The Doctors are taking advantage of their patients. The fees should be less, like a lawyer's office, I pay less legal fees with a legal aid does the work instead of an attorney. Or when an apprentice worker versus a journeyman does work, so we wonder why medical costs are so high? So lower the delivery costs, no lower the consumer costs ...humm wonder where the profits are going? My recommendation is go to a doctor who actually practices medicine and not spend Fridays at the links. read more

Man am I GLAD I read the Yelp review BEFORE I actually took the day off to see the doc... OR Physician's Assistant as my follow up phone call would later clarify.... Ethics...... They are everything.... Least they are to me and or should be to more..... That's at the core of this review of this MD. My issue is an ethical one based on their office practices of NOT being forthcoming but instead obscuring and in all reality hiding imperative information UNLESS the patient asks. And for those who think this is a 'small' thing; I disagree as if small things are hidden then just imagine what larger ones lurk.. Just moved here and my knees are not cooperating so it's time to see a specialist who is qualified to tell me whats actually going on with them. So as customary, went to Yelp, opened up a "Talk" thread and began the search. Dr.Greene was just one of several that came back as a potential contender. Phoned one office; closed as today is the day after the 4th of July so in all fairness can't hold that against them. Next on the list was this Dr.Greene who upon further research using UComparehealthcare website and the like; decided to call. Made the new patient appt with a helpful gal for July 18th; funny thing is that I was quite surprised at how quickly the new patient appointment was available as typically getting a new patient appointment with anyone let alone a surgeon takes a good month or MORE; but I jumped on it. Then back to Yelp to look up the doc.. That was my first mistake: Not coming here first. Found this one and only review that listed their dissatisfaction with the fact that they were led to believe that they were making the appointment with an Orthopedic Surgeon when in fact it was with a PA. Called the office back to confirm and YEP!!! That's exactly how they roll it.. What I would learn would really chap my hide.... Here's what I learned based on what the appointment setter just informed me of AFTER I called back & ASKED her if I'd be seeing Dr.Greene OR the PA : ~ They use Physician's Assistants (PA) and MD's in a "team" system. What this REALLY means to the patients IE: Cash Cows: Your paying your co-pays and office visits for a Specialist (HIGHER copays & office visits because your paying for their KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE) in this case an Orthopod Surgeon and your seeing a Physician's Assistant the majority of the time like in this instance here with me and my new patient appointment. ~ EVEN if you request to see oh say Dr.Greene there is NO GUARANTEE that your request will be fulfilled. I was informed: "well, you can request at the time of your visit when YOU SEE THE PA to see the doctor BUT we can't promise you that you will be able to as its a team approach and Dr.Greene doesn't have appointments himself". HERE'S"S WHAT I KNOW: Pigs get fed; Hogs get slaughtered. Yep the way this office runs their business it's all about the VOLUME of patients herded into the practice. Period. I will never know how truly brilliant of an MD or surgeon Dr.Greene may or may not be as I have now cancelled my new patient appointment and will continue the search. Dr. Greene completed a total knee on my right knee 8 years ago and it is doing fantastic. He is fully committed to seeing that his patients get great follow up care and ensures that they have a top level function prior to release. Being a nurse, this knee has been fully tested and going strong. I have only a hairline scar and no numbness. Able to walk without pain or tiredness throughout a 12 hour shift. As far as the PA, his PA is fully qualified and confers with him on any patient, so you get two for one. read more

What a joke this place is i was seen twice by the doctor or should i say once on my second visit the physician assistant came in and told me that there was nothing wrong with my ankle which only mad me mad because ive been in pain for years on top of that they sent me to collections over a co pay really? Dr. Hunter Greene is an amazing surgeon, he gave me full use of my arm again. I am now pain free! I did not experience what others on yelp have experienced, but if I did have to wait weeks for Dr. Greene I would; he is that good. His office staff can be short, not warm and fuzzy, they are busy. But Dr. Greene knows his stuff! He has a great bedside manner, explained every step of the surgery, check up on me several times while recovering at home. Felt like he really cared. Sorry the others on here had bad experiences, my was NOTHING like theirs. If anyone of my family members needed surgery I would ONLY allow Dr. Greene to do it he is that good, and his scheduler Breana was very kind and sweet. read more

Dr. Greene is an amazing Orthopedic surgeon. All Doctors facilities use PA's to accommodate for their patients. Dr.s have busy schedules & busy lives. They don't have time to see all there patients due to high volume. read more

Dr Greene, as a surgeon, has been unfairly persecuted by some reviews regarding the use of a PA. I understand the need for using a PA, and also understand that some people only want to see an M.D. My opinion is that we are here reviewing the surgeon, and not reviewing ethics on practices that use a PA. My review of Dr Greene as a surgeon, he is outstanding. I had surgery about 8 years ago by Dr Greene on my femur and tibia. He was great at explaining, in terms I understand, the procedure. He was kind and friendly, and made me feel comfortable through everything from start to finish. Jump to the present. I'm having the hardware removed from my femur at the end of the month. Just my luck, I have a new fracture. When it comes to "surgery" Dr Greene is amazing at his craft, and he will be repairing my new fracture. The bottom line is, my review is based on Dr Greene's surgical skills and the confidence I have that he will do another outstanding job. It's not fair to "review" him based on opinions on the use of a PA. And by the way, I have seen the PA, and NP, and both consulted with Dr Greene and worked as a team to come up with my treatment plan. read more

Dr. Greene did a nice job in repairing my broken shoulder. However, I feel he dropped the ball on my care, after I had continued to complain of pain and stiffness long after my surgery healed, hardware removed, and four rounds of PT. At my last and final appointment his PA told me the symptoms I was still experiencing were due to scar tissue, and dismissed me. After over a year of this putting up with my pain and discomfort, I have finally gone to see another reputable orthopedic surgeon, who immediately ordered an MR Arthrogram. (Dr. Greene never did do an MRI) It turns out I have a torn labrum. I am very disappointed that Dr. Greene did not listen to me. However, he did a great job on my initial surgery. Also, I feel that when a doctor uses up to four PA's, it creates a discontinuity in patient care, as Dr. Greene has many, many patients, and some of us simply get lost in the shuffle. You may want to consider going to a small orthopedic practice where you can actually see a doctor. read more

I should have read yelp on this quack of a doctor. His office is a money making medical machine with no care for the patients. He missed a major diagnosis with my hip. The staff are rude and uncaring. I was told on my first apt that he can only look at 2 body parts and must comeback for third. Hips and rt shoulder really? After confirming with other doctors in practice could not come up reason for pain and walking like a duck. Last the staff was requested to send my medical records to SSI . They claimed they called me 3 times. That was a flat out lie. The reason was they wanted me to drive over 60 miles round trip to bring them $20 to fax 3 pages of information. This was 3 days before my claim was denied they sat on this for over 2 months. I would not recommend sending my dog to this practice and am filing a claim with the AMA for what that is worth. FYI my current orthopedist diagnosed my issue in the first 5 minutes and was in surgery 2 weeks later to repair problem read more
