For this year amount of space inside the center, they could probably offer some more pamphlets and activity information, but they do have an events wall which I really appreciate because you don't find that everywhere. The staff were very friendly to the people asking questions and seem like they would be a great resource as well. The entire space was clean and well laid out, including the bathrooms. They sell items from local artisans and encourage learning about the area through that as well. Overall, I have been very impressed with West Virginia tourism and this welcome center is definitely in line with expectations and was lovely to visit.

Despite being next to the highway, the rest are was quiet because it's at the top of the climb. So the truckers whizzing past weren't using their engine to brake their speed. Hooray! I was not disturbed and got a great nights sleep in the van. There was an attendant here when I arrived which definitely helped with my comfort level. The Wi-Fi was effective and I did get some benefit out of being able to telework both from my room and in the outdoor area around the hotel. The place is convenient and right next to the highway.

This inn is nestled on top a mountain with beautiful views and settled away from all the hustle of surrounding towns yet it's still easily accessible from the interstate. There's also a very nice convenient store located on the property perfect for getting gas, snacks for your journey. They offer a beautiful lobby with a nice continental breakfast and even have other purchasable meals and items if you so happen to forget something for your trip. The Inn Manager Chantel addressed any concerns immediately, efficiently. She was very kind and personable. It was a joy just chatting with her. Thank you Chantel for making our stay a memorable one.

The negatives: it was $130 a night, the bed was broken, the internet sucks, there's nothing to eat anywhere near, and it is a clearly reviewed by the owners/staff because I just can't see how it was rated a 9 on Hotels.com. I love to find little mom and pop places, I dislike the big chains generally. To find one that was rated 9 was too good to pass up, even though it was a little pricey. But I just can't see how this place got such a great rating. The bed was broken for one. There's no elevator to the second floor, and when you are exhausted and carrying bags, then you have to climb stairs, ugh! You get to your room and try to find the next place you are headed, and the internet dies intermittently. So no streaming your own shows or anything, no gaming for the kids, it is even difficult to do your research on where you are staying next. The place is clean but bring your slippers, the room isn't carpeted. That makes it much easier for staff to clean up after people's pets, I suppose, and we had no allergic reactions which was nice. The little refrigerator is on the floor, and the microwave is on a TV dinner table which feels a bit wobbly. There's a little sign in the room telling you that any infractions of their policy will cost you $250 in cleaning fees. The room was very very noisy. There is a laundry room or an ice machine very near ours that made all kinds of noise all night long. And the racket off the highway was a constant but it is also a positive since it is so easy to get back on the road. Oh and the room door was sticking making it hard to open. They gave us a code to key into the room and when we keyed it in, we thought we did it wrong because the door wouldn't open. It kept telling us the code was good, but wouldn't let us in until we shoved hard.

The distillery was easy to find - outside of town, very close to the airport. Plenty of parking, and very attractive grounds. Inside, thrilled to find a huge selection of merchandise, friendly staff, and a tasting bar. Tasting portion (which does have a fee) is a very generous pour, so feel free to split between two people. You can always order a cocktail or pour of what you like. I learned about the label protocol and mash bills, and left with a few bottles, stickers, cards, maple syrup and manhattan cocktail concentrate. Oh, and huge smile on my face.
