This location has been a staple for me since childhood, and I am delighted to see how they are evolving with the current times. One aspect that stands out to me is the upgraded food court, now offering a diverse range of culinary options from various cultures, alongside the classic favorites such as the original Chick-fil-A and the exceptional Prime Deli famous for their wings. The cleanliness of both the food court and mall is impeccable, with diligent staff ensuring everything is in order. Surprisingly, the restroom facilities were also impeccably clean. The overall atmosphere of the mall is relaxed and welcoming, and I felt completely at ease and welcomed. It was Christmas Eve and Greenbriar Mall was not on my list of things to do... However, J needed to return some sneakers to JD Sports and this was the closest one. Getting to the mall I knew it was going to be crazy as the parking lot was loaded. For a mall that doesn't have that many stores, it was loaded. As always, somehow, I ended up spending money. lol. Manhattan: This store always gets the best of me. The urban street wear selections are always spot on and they usually have a good sale or buy one get one going on. The store is always clean and the clothes are in order by size. Though the store isn't huge, they make great use of space and the size I need is always easy to find. I went in, hit the jean rack as they had some great selections out with various washes and rip patterns so I couldn't pass them up. Found my size. Got in line and was out the door. The staff is always friendly and help to ensure the shopping experience is smooth. CitiTrend: You can't leave Greenbriar without hitting Cititrends. As it was the day before Christmas, the store was super loaded. The clothes were all over the place in the men's section, however, it wasn't horrible. You could tell people had been shopping all day and the staff was doing their best to keep the store in order. It didn't take me too long before I found a few things I wanted. lol. I walked the entire men's section. Grabbed a few sweatshirts and headed to the register. I love the register area as it always has some extra quick pick goodies. While in line, I grabbed a few hair care items I saw and was on my way. The cashier was efficient and super nice. She greeted me, smiled the entire time, and wished me a Merry Christmas as I departed. I always enjoy Greenbriar Mall, but I also know what to expect. It's an older mall, with mainly unique storefronts, bordered with stores only accessible from the outside, like Citi Trends and a large beauty supply. There are no major anchor stores remaining at Greenbriar. I used to visit for the Macy's but it has been closed a few years now. That said there are still some major retailers, like Kids Footlocker. I always visit Greenbriar in December because they are guaranteed to have a Black Santa Claus for my children to take pictures with. At that time of year, I find that the Footlocker stores consistently have GREAT deals. It's almost like they are giving the clothes away! Aside from the major retailers, there are lots of one-off stores that sell unique clothing should you be looking for a special item, costume, or clothes your preteen/teenager will like. There is also a great shop where you can get thinks embroidered or get shirts made. The food court is a whole experience! It has none of the usual suspects but plenty of places I'd like to try. There are is a common cookie retailer near the food court and a Piccadilly near one of the main entrances if you want a sit down meal. Long story short: if you're looking for an experience or for a unique gift with nothing specific in mind (or a Black Santa in December), Greenbriar is your place! Seven years ago, I wrote a Yelp review on Greenbriar Mall and I gave it a three rating. After my most recent visit (Friday, October 8, 2021), I'm struggling to figure out how this mall is staying in business. I was there mainly to purchase two items: a birthday present for my teenage nephew and some dress shoes for myself to wear to work. On my previous review, I stated that the mall was basically being kept afloat by Macy's and Burlington Coat Factory. I also said that it wasn't as ghetto as expected. I am here to eat those words and chase it down with the most bitter of beverages. Both the Macy's and Burlington Coat Factory stores have closed and have yet to be replaced by anything, with the Macy's looking like an eyesore all boarded up from the outside. The Anna's Linens has been placed by a (gasp!) Citi Trends. So what do they have in there now? Well, the Footlocker, Buster Brown, Manhattan (hip hop clothing store), Wells Fargo bank, and Medu black bookstore are still there (though Medu is located in a different part of the mall from where it was before). The barber shop and nail salon are still there. The Piccadilly cafe remains there as well, but I've never dined there. As far as the food court goes, the Chick Fil-A and Mr. Everything restaurants are probably the only fast food restaurants you'll recognize, but there are a few others that sell burgers and hot wings. This mall is now the portrait of urban blight and is even more of a hangout for teens and people in their early 20s than it was before. And the customer service in practically every store was awful. In fact, whenever I entered most stores I was treated as if I was too old and uncool to be shopping there. Nearly all the clothing stores catered more towards hip-hop attire that was not only expensive but wasn't functional for anyone working in an office environment. I was hard pressed to find the dress shoes I was looking for. I used to be able to depend on Payless Shoes for that but of course that is now gone as well. I had to resort to entering the store that sells the pimp suits in my quest for shoes I could wear to the office. I told the saleswoman that I was looking for basic conservative black dress shoes with shoestrings in them and she looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language. All the shoes they had were those pimp alligator shoes that were a variety of flashy colors. If you like wearing purple shoes or dress shoes that are white on the top and another color on the sides and the bottom, this is your spot. The only basic black shoes they had were slip-ons with no shoestrings in them. It was then that I realized I'm going to have to go elsewhere just to find some conservative basic black dress shoes for men. The best part of my visit to the mall was that I did find a gift for my nephew. I purchased a Los Angeles Lakers jacket for him at Jimmy Jazz that cost about $98 before tax. It was a reasonable price considering the good quality of the product. In another store, I saw a really nice hoodie with deceased rapper Nipsy Hustle's face on it, but it was a way too pricey $70. Oh, one other attraction is still at the mall that was there during my last review of this place: The big booty black sistas from the hood are still strutting around in their lycra bodysuits. Everything jiggling and nothing left to the imagination. So, most certainly the mall is still a good place for "people watching." Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with marketing to the "urban" crowd but there needs to be more variety. Not every brother wears Nike's and jumpsuits 24 hours a day. Some of us go on job interviews and need business casual attire. I did see a store that sells tuxedos but I believe it was marketed towards the teenage prom crowd and for some reason it was closed on this late Friday afternoon. But finding a regular basic suit is impossible here. You can find your fake gold chains, fitted baseball caps, Air Jordans, and spray painted t-shirts though. I was so disappointed with my most recent visit to Greenbriar Mall that I don't believe I will ever go back anytime soon. The whole vibe was off, with people just hanging around both inside and outside the place. And be careful walking through the parking lot because they drive as reckless as if they're still in the streets, with their minds more focused on their blasting car stereos than pedestrians. I hate to do it, but my rating for Greenbriar Mall has dropped from a three to a one. read more

I like Greenbriar Mall and it's usually our first stop on our hunt for something cute and stylish. On our way in, on May 24, there was a sign on the door that said you must wear a mask to enter. It's Spring!! The temperature has begun to rise and on this particular day I was sweating. The virus season ended Mid-May....and u are mandating we wear masks. Well, we did not have masks. I'm not sure why there is an expectation that everyone has face masks. If you are going to enforce No Mask No Entry, then masks should be provided and it should be implemented at the entrance. I have entered other businesses that mandated masks but they provided and took the temperature of every patron prior to them entering the building. I respect the professionalism. Professionalism is not what I experienced on Sunday. Some stores didn't check...some turned you away...it was a very awkward and uncomfortable experience... I exercise my right not to wear a mask. I haven't been in contact with any1 with COVID 19, nor have I traveled to the other countries impacted. No fever so not contagious. No symptoms. Matter of fact, no one in my family is sick. If we were sick, we would be at home. Sick people supposed to stay home, right? I'm assuming all employees are not sick, even tho they have on masks and that's confusing to me. People who are not sick do not spread germs...like the virus. They can't cuz they don't have it. So, I'm not concerned with catching anything from the employees...or from anyone else since I'm not expecting sick people to be at a mall. Plus, I do what's necessary to stay well like proper diet, exercise and water...so even with increased sanitation practices...if I feel anything coming on like a virus...I know what to do to boost my immune system to help my body defend itself...but again...if I or we felt sick...we wouldn't not have come to the mall... Why do I have to wear a mask to do business here? If it's no mask, no entry and those are my only choices. Then I choose no entry. Until you change your policy...maybe. read more

I remembered why I don't come to Macy's Greenbriar unless. I'm returning something. Their associates need t be trained a lot better especially if they are in the customer service area. I was returning an online order that I purchased 2 weeks ago and no longer have a receipt. Even when I've had an item that isn't on their regular selection in store, the associates normally can find the item and return it in store. I lucked out and had the new person (2 days in this dept) and only person in the place who is in customer service. They shouldve had a back up for someone this new. I know to always have the receipt if I ever come back to this Macy's. First I had to wait for 10 min because she couldn't clock in? Again, why a second person needs to be here. It took 15 minutes to make my simple return for two items. And she still couldn't find the second one. Now I have to send it in the mail to return or go to my usual Macy's locations further north. I should've drove to my usual location, Macy's Lenox. It's worth the extra time than to deal with this inadequacy. read more

They've added a few more resturants to the food court. Lost some retailers, but there is still at least five places to buy sneakers and urban wear. Maxway has gone out of business but was replaced by Conway. Burlington Coat Factory is still in business and so is Macys. Still not up to Atlanta standards when it comes to malls, but in a quick fix at least they have a food court with Chickfalay and American Deli wings. read more

This mall is not as bad as many other reviewers make it out to be. I do understand the neighborhood that it is located in and the criminal and sometimes violent activity that surrounds it, but I'm reviewing the mall, not the neighborhood. This mall has been around since 1965. It is what I consider to be a "hood" mall but it has everything that you need. Lots of clothing stores. Hell there is even a dialysis center here. It's more local mom and pop stores rather than chains. Macy's is truly the only anchor here as Burlington relocated a few months ago. This is my favorite "hood mall" in the Atlanta area if I had to choose (Stonecrest, West End, and South DeKalb are the other ones). I believe the mall is doing well enough to survive, but there are too many vacant buildings surrounding the mall which I believe needs to be addressed. read more

Greenbriar Mall is a lost cause, that's my opinion. I haven't been to this so call mall in yeeeeaaarrrssss. He'll!! I grew up over and back in the day Greenbriar Mall was the S___! BUT! now it looks like larger version of West End Mall. They barely have any clothing stores left ( Macy's and Burlington) and maybe 2 or 3 decent sneaker stores you can go to. I think what's holding this strip mall together IS Macy's, Burlington and the Food court. The fact that it's a quick spot to go to in a hurry when need be. Other than that......they need to bulldoze that place down and start all over again. Like back in the day when there where plenty of retail shops, a theater, shoe stores and good eateries inside. Although Greenbriar Mall does not offer some of the more expensive stores, that you would find in the Perimeter or Lenox area, it still offers some cool options for families in the Atlanta area. The area is a little "hood" but the employees are typically professional and courteous. They have great deals on toys, cute pajama sets, and clothing, in one of the value department stores in the mall. The nail salon and barber shop in this mall do a better job than most "richer" malls in the Metro Atlanta area, without charging you an arm and a leg. The deluxe pedicure feels amazing with the hot towels. There are booths and stores that cater to the black community, in ways that you may not find in the larger malls. For instance, if you are in a D9 fraternity or sorority, you can find "nalia" in this mall. You can also find art that caters to African Americans. They also have added some of the popular shoe and clothing stores to help cater to the sneaker heads. You can find Lids, all the common shoe stores, and basic women boutiques. The Burlington coat factory in Greenbriar Mall is well stocked, on the few times that I frequented this year. I visited with my family two days before Christmas, and I was able to rack up on clothes and shoes for my 2 year old. Also, for the second year in a row, we were able to take pictures with Santa. Although the line was long (2 days before Christmas), everyone was respectful and the customer service was great from the employees that were working the photo booth. Our photos came out amazing (see one pictured below). Overall, I would return for some shopping, a full set, or to take my pictures with Santa. Greenbriar Mall is one of the best places to go for sneakers and urban hip hop culture inspired fashions in Atlanta. Located on the south west side of the city, this mall is mostly frequented by East Point, south west Atlanta and College Park area locals. Macy's and Burlington Coat Factory are anchor stores and you'll find a lot of teeny boppers at shopping at Rave, Rainbow Shop, Traffik, Trends and Man Alive. You'll also see jazzy and fashionable grandmotherly church goers at the dress shops and certain coordinating shoe and accessory stores. Offering more than just clothes, Greenbriar Mall has shoe stores, a barber shop, nail salon, beauty shop, beauty supply store, furniture store, Comcast store, post office, IHOP, Piccadilly Cafeteria, food court, picture studio, several children's specialty. There is also a Magic Johnson Theaters. Believe it or not this mall also has an event space for conferences on the lower level. Greenbriar Mall is the type of mall you go to when you have a specific type of purchase in mind vs. window shopping. I like this mall, however management needs to fix up the pot holes in the parking lot. Additionally, although this mall is in the heart of the Black community they really need to bring in more retailers so that it becomes more of a shopping destination. With all the developments going up in Atlanta and the updates to Shannon Mall and the new Camp Creek Marketplace, this mall has the potential to become nonexistent in five to ten years without them. I frequent Greenbriar for children's special occasion clothing, hair supplies as well as home accents in Burlington Coat Factory. Greenbriar Mall has been a staple for anyone who grew up on the west and south sides of Atlanta. Yet, it is severely underrated. As a sneaker fanatic, I would argue that it consistently has better shoe selections than any other mall in the metro Atlanta area. Greenbriar doesnt have stores for luxury brands such as Gucci and Guisseppe, so it isnt the mall for you if that's what you're looking for. Yet, you can find anything you need here: suits, quick outfits, jewelry, bank, tag, etc. It's close proximity to Krogers allows the area to be perfect for end of the week shopping. Greenbriar is in a class by itself. It is not like the mainstream Atlanta malls but is the perfect destination for a shopper who knows what he or she is looking for. I like the Greek shop here for buying fraternity and sorority items. There are also many stores that specialize in urban fashions. The drive for me is a bit far, so I only go if I have a purpose. I also recall a bookstore here with a large collection of African American books of all genres. It isn't just the parking lot, all of the streets around the mall are raggedy as well. YELPERS? Really....I can't believe what I'm seeing. How is anyone rating this mall 3 stars?!?!? Maybe cause I'm a middle class Black person, but this mall does not have any good stores. The Macy's is lackluster and yes this mall serves a different demographic, but hood apparel does not deserve a mall. Urban apparel is different from cheap clothes all around. I don't think the food court if you could call it that there serves anything healthy. Greenbriar mall is not the best mall in the Atlanta area in which to shop, but it's certainly not the best. Want my pros and cons list? Okay here it is: PROS: -It's the closest mall to the Airport. -It's not an expensive mall to shop at (for a mall). -There's adequate lighting in the parking lot. -There's a Macy's and Burlington Coat Factory. -The parking lot, sidewalks, and bus stops have been redone and look a lot cleaner. CONS: (OMG where do I begin??) -It's located in a seedy neighborhood. -There's always a theft or a fight. -The only "mall-type" stores they have are Burlington Coat Factory, Macy's, Journeys and a couple of sports stores (Foot Locker). All the rest are "Mom & Pop" stores. -There's not even a cellphone store (Verizon, Sprint)! -The food court sucks. There's a Chick-fil-A, Subway, Cookie/Pretzel store, and some kind of wing/deli spot. -The customer service experience in most of the stores absolutely SUCKS!! Wow. How time changes things. I haven't been over here in exactly 16 years. Back then, if you can believe it, Greenbriar was the spot. Nice to see they paved Greenbriar Parkway, that's really cool. This is NOT a mall anymore. It's a giant "thing" of linked together strip mall stores. Cheap ones. Like "Deals". Since when does something called "Deals" belong in a "mall"? A dialysis center IN the "mall"? I was really curious about what this Macy's may have in it, but I just didn't want to spend 10 minutes of my life going to see. Seems like everyone is being served by the Camp Creek Commons shopping area up 285 an exit or two. My suggestion would be to just raze this entire thing. I've been to a lot of malls. This particular mall has so much potential to be great. It's like they want to be mediocre. Not enough stores that appeal to the masses. There are some cute selections from the boutiques but they have nothing to compete with so the prices are ridiculous. No Victoria Secret, no Charlotte Russe, no Bath & Body Works. Compare to the other malls in Atlanta it's on the low end of the spectrum. I do like this mall and I will continue to shop there, I just see and want better that's all. read more

If you live on the South Side this is a good mall for Macy's as it's never crowded and you can park a few spaces from the door, otherwise the mall is dead. They also have a GREAT (black) Santa and a DMV office that is super fast. read more

Yes, it's in the hood, yes it's more urban than suburban but it has some flavor. I live in Alpharetta where I get bored of seeing the same thing all the time. I went into this mall one day, (looking for something to eat) and actually liked it. I liked looking at all of the ethnic shops and was absolutely shocked that they had a Macy's. However, this was not a typical Macy's. It definitely catered to the surrounding community in terms of clothing brands and collections. I had an awesome chicken gyro in the food court. It was totally hooked up, ( which is why I love visiting "the hood"). Living in the burbs, I really miss seeing a lot of my people, (characters and interesting personalities), so it is just a great mall for cruising and watching the people. Now for the bad news: You know you're in the hood when the mall has a police substation and dialysis center on site. SMH The Burlington store was unrecognizable. It looked more like a ransacked thrift store that was going out of business. I would not recommend shopping at this mall after dark. It can be a little deserted during the day so imagine what it would be like at night. read more

If the Yelp review service were to list the demographics of its Atlanta users I feel certain that very few would come from the section of Atlanta where Greenbriar mall is. Why is this important? Because Greenbriar Mall isn't just a mall. In fact, it's not the best mall in terms of what has historically been considered a good mall by the white middle class in the US. At Greenbriar Mall you will find brightly colored clothing that most white folks or Black middle class folks attempting to fit into white society, would never consider wearing. This is part of the reason you'll find lackluster reviews of Greenbriar Mall on sites like Yelp. Because of the demographic that leaves reviews. Are they working class and Black and living in the neighborhood of Greenbriar Mall? Perhaps a few (and yay for that) but for the most party the answer is no. If you are looking for the latest footwear worn in the hood or fly jewelry or just to hang and people watch regular working class Black folks (many ppl visit malls to people watch) Greenbriar Mall is excellent. I used to hang out at the Briar back when it was the Jermaine Dupri/So So Def crew hang out (not to mention tons of other artists and Black celebs). If you are attempting to expand on a wardrobe that could be straight out of an episode of Ally McBeal or Friends then Greenbriar Mall is not for you. Along with the positive cultural aspects of being an Atlanta icon there are negative aspects as well. Occasional hothead kids with bad attitudes will roll through causing a ruckus. This is rare but it happens. And for Greenbriar's difficulty adequately dealing with this, I have to take away a star. read more

My angry wife: So I told my husband I wanted I wanted to go shopping , I guess he was mad at me or something because he decided to get back at me by taking me to this mall. I'm new to ATL so I'm not sure where all the hot spots are. This mall is a hole in the wall that just needs to be filled.
