Watercolor painting (painted with artist paint and natural, plant-derived paint)

I feel so lucky to have this stunning and spacious wooded park less than 5 minutes from my home. I hiked along one of their trails in the autumn (best time to go) and recently, I came here for a meet-up event hosted by Greenbelt - watercoloring painting. In a nearby cabin, a group of us sat and painted with a variety of natural, plant-derived paints made from berries found right here in the Greenbelt! They also had store-bought watercolor paints as well. I used both natural and artist watercolor paint in my piece. After we finished painting, most of us left for a 30 minute walk through the area. We found some of the berries we painted with earlier along the trail and walked across a small bridge over a pond on the way back. Although it was a very hot day, the variety of tall trees that surrounded us provided a leafy canopy, creating a path that is cooler than the city sidewalks and nearby golf course. You can lose track of time and forget very quickly you are in the fast-spaced city once you step inside these quiet woods. What I recommend for a visit here: A bottle of water Some bug spray A good pair of sneakers A small snack like a granola bar And of course, your phone or camera

This is the gem of Staten Island outdoor activity. You can hike for hours and not come across the same path. The trails are well preserved and if you're into birding there are a decent number of species to see.

The fact that the Greenbelt exists makes me happy to be a New Yorker.

It has become mine and my husband's favorite restaurant after visiting for every special event, which are always made more special by the staff that remembers us each time. That is always a nice feeling, to be remembered. We also try to come stop by at least once a month just for a drink or dessert because the atmosphere is so beautiful. When it was time to get married, we didn't even consider other options. We were married in the Fireplace room, and held the reception on the lakefront terrace. Nadia, was our contact at the venue for the wedding planning and walked us through every single step of the way. She coordinated several special requests for us throughout the process and always welcomes us with a smile when we see her. We will definitely be back for our baby shower...one day!

The lox was cheap: too salty and fishy tasting and the bagels were cheap not NYC bagels the lemon chicken was gross and the fish was 1/10 of an inch and mostly tomatoes on top the omelette station was gross too much eggs horrible sausages were not well cooked. After waiting ten minutes, we found a young waitress in the back and were told to seat ourselves. When another couple arrived, she became the sole server for both tables. The service was poor throughout. She didn't offer menu suggestions, simply asking if we were ready to order. When we requested drinks, she brought the wrong items like Diet Pepsi instead of Diet Coke, and seltzer water instead of Sprite. She then disappeared for an extended period, spending most of her time at the host stand rather than checking on tables. We ate without drinks. We wanted to ask for more bread she was no where to be found. The neighboring couple had similar issues, mentioning she forgot their coffee order entirely. While we sympathized that she may have been new or inexperienced, the lack of attentiveness and basic service fundamentals made for an uncomfortable dining experience that didn't match the restaurant's reputation. The ambiance seemed very old school and family friendly. There were a ton of tables but it was also very cold like the heater at the restaurant wasn't working. The food took a long time, the food was great but honestly we didn't ask for anything big. It was just spaghetti and chicken parm.

The weight room is decent with most of the standard machines - chest press, bicep curl, leg press, cable fly, crunch machine, lat pulldown, etc. The weight room is lacking a power rack or squat rack which is huge. Not ideal for people who are serious into lifting. However, there is a flat bench press. The heaviest dumbbell set went up to 60 lbs (for some reason, there is a lone 65 lbs dumbbell) which is an improvement from the Ocean Breeze Rec Center (pair of 50 lbs dumbbell heaviest). The weight room is a bit uncomfortably warm during winter when I went here often two years ago. However, the cardio room felt like the perfect temperature to do cardio in - if I remember correctly, the windows were normally opened, and the cardio equipment were generally OK. The treadmills were fine, but the ellipticals and stationary bikes felt lower quality (not much resistance on them). The second floor of this rec center was interesting - there is a room for ping pong, another room for gaming (board games and XBox), and another room with computers. I saw some college-age looking students working in the computer rooms when I went. Overall, a pretty decent facility if you are into general fitness/health.

The lady at the front was rude as was the instructor when I asked more questions. The is a NYC center and ALL should have the opportuntity to participate in classes.
