The decor is contemporary and smart. However, I felt the newer barn area was a little too voluminous and it could have done with breaking up into smaller areas. It felt like we had to keep our voices down to avoid being overheard by other diners. The food on the several occasions I have been there has been good. The menu is uncomplicated yet well thought out - they dont try and do anything too complex. A good selection of meat and fish dishes with some interesting additions such as home made breads. Overall good solid performer. I would recommend if you are travelling along the A14 and looking for a quality lunch and dinner, stop here.

The food was really well done and you could tell that care was put into it. I went with my colleague from Scotland, and he approved. Entrees ranged from around 11 pounds to 14 pounds. The steaks were more expensive. I would agree that the price was just a tad expensive overall. The inside was like a cozy little house. It had short ceilings. It was kind of like a hobbit house, but all the furniture was replaced by random mis-matched chairs and tables. A very homey feeling.

We stayed here after an amazing wedding (as other friends also live in this village, and it was easy to get a taxi back late at night.) Yays: - The room was warm and comfy, so we slept well - Tea, cereal, milk etc was all provided in the room, so you can make your own breakfast! Nays: - I'm sure we were meant to check out by 10am, but we couldn't find anyone to give the keys back to! The pub main door was locked, so I have no idea how we could've contacted staff if we needed something! - There wasn't a hair drier (and as I said, no way to contact staff to see if I could borrow one) so if you stay here, bring your own! - We could hear the motorway, so being in the countryside, doesn't always mean things are quiet!! This didn't really matter after a night of dancing, as we were both exhausted and slept straight away!!

From local guest ales, a good selection of staple real ales and lagers, to imports including Erdinger on draft, this pub will not disappoint any beer drinker. It is also a great venue for live music, with local talent appearing several nights every week, including Tuesdays open mic night when everyone is welcome to have a go. I can heartily recommend the beef burgers they serve there. The only things that stop it from getting five stars is that the staff could perhaps be friendlier and the food could maybe be prepared quicker, but it is always worth the wait, both in terms of quality and quantity. Nine out of ten for this pub and very much recommended. If anything, I probably go there a bit too often, it is that good!

No 77 is a wonderfully quirky little pub that serves delicious Thai food. From the outside, No 77…read moreappears to be a typical aged village Inn - on the inside is a recently-renovated pub full of character! Unlike many renovated places, No 77 hasn't gone for a sterile "clean-cut" look full of formal dining tables, but has a cool, comfortable atmosphere with both eating areas and a more informal drinking area. As for the food, this is one of the nicest placest I have eaten for a while! The Thai Green and Thai red curries are out of this world. As far as I can tell, everything is prepared in-house with lovely, fresh ingredients. The restaurant has even been selected for the 2015 Michelin Guide! A take-away option is also available, but you have to collect yourself (I would recommend eating in the pub though, as it's such a unique little place!) The drinks selection is excellent, with a range of unusual beers and a cocktail selection. Price wise, the food is pretty good value; cheaper than most pubs in Cambridge and certainly worth the money. Drink prices are not the cheapest (£2.50 - £3 for a soft drink, £5 ish for a small glass of wine, £4 ish for a pint... although there are some cheaper "guest ale" options for a very reasonable £3.20). If you are used to Cambridge drinking prices, this won't seem too bad. As a little extra, every Sunday is a "cinema night", with a large projector screen and upcycled old cinema chairs. There is an afternoon film for the kiddies, and an evening film for the grown-ups. What better way to spend a Sunday evening!? All in all, I would definitely recommend a visit to No 77 - you won't be disappointed.

We ate a burger, fish and chips and lamb stew with Parmesan dumplings. Everything was tasty and well presented. So much so that we shared a pear and walnut eton mess ...one bowl and three spoons! Overall, a good addition to St Ives.

Okay, so my Ferry Boat review deserves another update, I think…read more We've been there twice again in the last couple of months and, on both occasions, the experience was a marked improvement on what'd gone on before: we put it down to new management. The Ferry Boat enjoys a lovely setting - quite remote really in the hamlet of Holywell, itself within the lovely Fenland countryside right next to the River Great Ouse. (Activities on the river no doubt giving the pub its name, and the reason for its very existance, I'd guess). The pub was as popular as last time - we had trouble finding a table - but unlike on previous occasions there was No queueing to order and The meal was brought to us in a decent time. Unfortunately we didn't spot the separate Midweek Specials menu until we were leaving (why wasn't there one on every table?) but it seems that they were trying hard to offer a good variety. That said, rice dishes seem very out-of fashion anywhere at the moment, and the only pasta dish was vegetarian (not that THAT matters to me, but worth noting.) On a positive note, they have installed another pump to offer a guest ale - a good pub is notable by the variety of ales on offer, as far as I'm concerned. And, on both recent visits, the staff were concerned to court our opinion - both in asking us how our meal was (fairly standard, I know) but also asking us to go online and fill out a survey. That's got to be a good sign of a will to improve, So yeah. The Ferry Boat Inn is on the way up, for us. We'll be back again soon.
