This person was, thankfully, my son's driving instructor at Always First. Her name is Shannon Miller and I believe her experience raising two children and knowledge from being a school bus driver makes her an expert. Yes, Shannon had the skills, knowledge, patience, and fortitude to train new drivers, but how would she cope with a grunting teenager who might answer direct questions with a should shrug or monosyllabic responses? Perhaps she has magical fairy dust because each and every time my son returned from his driving lesson, he chattered on and on about the things he learned and the conversations they had. It was music to my ears! Shannon was able to turn my caveman son into a talkative and enthusiastic conversationalist. My son was my second child to go through Always First Driving Academy. I appreciate the services they offer. I would recommend you ask for instructor Shannon Miller - she's awesome!

I met Larry Roberts about a year before it was time for my daughter to start driving. He spoke at a group event, promoting his driver's education classes. I held onto that brochure up until it was time and as soon as she got her permit, I called to try to get her in. Unfortunately, it's not the Boone Driving School. They actually have to already have their license and have some sense of driving experience in order to attend this education course. In five days they teach them how to recognize dangers of driving. The training includes classroom instruction, use of driving simulators, and driving on a 3 1/2-acre driving pad under the supervision of certified instructors. My daughter absolutely loved her instructors. One was a retired police officer. He and all of the others that met seemed to genuinely love teaching these kids. The cost is currently $400 for 20 hours of instruction. The cars, also called Skid Monsters are provided by Toyota On Nicholasville. They provide 11 cars per year to the program. There are several other corporate sponsors too. So, the $400 price isn't the true value of what it's worth.

I don't normally do this, but it's just one of those things you can't let slide…read more I was picking my son up from drivers education last night at Bloomington All Star Driving School, and the owner started SCREAMING at one of the students. I understand that she just gave him that paper, that she just went over it in class for 20 minutes, (that's what she was yelling at him) but if a teen is self-advocating by asking questions when they don't understand something, you can't scream at them. My son said she yells at them like that sometimes when she's passed her limit, but in my opinion, she should NOT be working with teenage drivers. My daughter will not be going there when her time comes to get her license.

I found Ideal Beauty Academy through Groupon and purchased their 60 min signature facial. This was…read moredefined as the student evaluating your skin for dry and oily areas, then selecting products to best hydrate and brighten it. The hours for the academy are somewhat limited if you work first shift. I believe their last available appointment is 3p. I booked my service for 2p and while it was an hour for the facial (per the Groupon), I didn't leave before 1.5 hrs. This is fairly common for a service at beauty school so prepare accordingly. The students need additional time to ask questions and have check ins with their instructor. I enjoyed my facial and felt that I learned a lot about my skin and its condition. If you've not experienced a facial it includes exfoliation, serums and masks. While the mask is setting you also receive an arm / hand massage. My skin felt great and I looked refreshed. The redness on my cheeks was also calmer. The academy itself is simple. A check in desk and classroom on the first floor, and upstairs another classroom setting with a few rooms for facials and other services. The tables are basic, more similar to a medial or massage table than a cushioned one you'd find at a salon; however, I wasn't uncomfortable. You'll also experience sounds around you as others come into the room for supplies or the next customer is only divided by a curtain. Again, part of the experience attending a teaching academy. As long as you hold the correct expectations you won't be disappointed.

The facility is a little dated, more so upstairs where the facial took place. This isn't a big deal to me but does detract from the ambience of a spa service. Everyone I encountered was polite and friendly. Although it was mentioned to me that service prices had increased since the purchase of my Groupon but they would "honor it anyway"...uh yeah...you better, that's kinda how that works.... My aesthetician cleaned and surveyed my skin. She called in her professor to indicate her plan of action. She then suggested I upgrade to a better line of products for an additional $15. Although my gut told me it wasn't worth it, I agreed any ways. I particularly hate being put on the spot like that. She told me that she needed to get the supplies and was gone for quite a while. When she returned I assume I was given a mask, cleaned and then maybe given a moisturizer. None of this was well explained to me. The actual time she spent on my facial was probably closer to 30-40 minutes, given the waits in between (going to get professor, going to get supplies) I haven't had many facials but the ones I have had have always included some kind of extraction or serious exfoliation. This one did not. It was mostly just her massaging and wiping products off my face. There was also no recommendations or follow up care provided. I tipped 20% on the full amount, which I consider generous given that it was a student/school situation and I wasn't super thrilled. I'm not sure the aesthetician even thanked me. For the quality of service and the cost I ended up paying, I will try a different spot for my beauty service needs.
