My son can be a five star general and I'll show up with a cookie cake because that's just the Mom I…read moream. He loves them and I love getting them for his celebrations since he's not big into actual cake cake. Don't worry, he gets other nice gifts too but cookie cakes are just nostalgic for us. I've been using Publix a lot lately, and was in town for his OCS graduation at Fort Moore. I picked a Publix closest to my Airbnb which happened to be this location. On the date/time of our pick up after phoning an order in the previous week, no cookie cake order was ready in my name. I was disappointed but luckily the gentleman working at the bakery very quickly remedied the situation and made one up for me immediately. He then discounted it a few dollars which was kind of him. This won't be my sons home Publix but in a pinch it is nearby and I am very grateful for the exceptional same day service the bakery staff member provided to me. The cake was for the next afternoon and when we served it, it was delish as per the usual with Publix cookie cakes.

YES, Yes , yes…read more How I have longed for a Winn Dixie, this was the only store I knew of growing up, My mother use to shop at Winn Dixie 3 times a week. So I was super excited to see this store when I made it to Columbus, I knew that I would be shopping here for the next 6 weeks, so I was trying to get familiar with it again. Seeing the Check pop brought back so many memories, to bad I no longer drink pop like that. This Winn Dixie was very clean and organized, they had a nice little hot wing bar in the deli department and all of the sale items were towards the front of the store. I bought 3 really nice coolers for 2.50 a piece ( on Clearance ). I don't know what the deal was but I couldn't find the water that I drink in this store, so I still had to go to Publix and get my water and fried chicken but I shopped here for everything else. The services was very relaxed but super friendly ( that good ole southern hospitality) . Prices were great, I think they have adopted the whole BOGO things as so many others have. I'm now back in Atlanta and miss my Winn Dixie, but I will see them the next time I'm in Columbus. GA.

Beware this holiday season!…read more This store sells predatory NetSpend Visa Prepaid cards. THEY ARE NOT GIFT CARDS! Yesterday, Dec. 19, I hastily bought a handful of NetSpend Prepaid Visa cards at this location, thinking that they were Visa Gift Cards. They are not! I loaded hundreds of dollars on them, altogether. The cashier was happy to do it, and didn't point out that the recipient can't use the card without first signing up for an account & verifying their identity, and then there's a $1.50/transaction fee for every transaction on the card after that. Not only that, but after 90 days, there's a $5.95 inactivity fee, a $2.95 ATM withdrawal fee, and fees for every possible path to getting your money out. You also can't activate more than one card as an individual, so there is literally no way for me to get my money back. I spent half an hour on the phone with NetSpend support, working through broken communication, until finally she said there was nothing she could do to help. (I was very polite and patient through all of this, and it's not her fault, but that is not an acceptable answer.) So why am I disappointed in Winn-Dixie? Winn-Dixie will not process a refund, even though the cards haven't been activated. They sell these things - I'm sure they've heard complaints before, or they would help process a refund. They clearly know NetSpend is shady, and are complicit in allowing it to continue. Winn-Dixie should be more aware of who they're doing business with. NetSpend has had an FTC action against it in 2017 that led to millions in refunds to consumers. They're still up to the same nonsense. It's fine if this is a useful product for some people, but they should not be able to take my money and keep it while I have no way to get it back. I could just pass these along to my nieces and nephews as gifts (although, if they already have one, it looks like they have no way to redeem it!), but the fees on these cards are ridiculous. I'm fine paying a few bucks for the privilege of buying a gift card the recipients can use anywhere, but buying a candy bar with it should not come with a $1.50 transaction fee every time. Visa is already making a killing on credit card transaction fees, and NetSpend already made their money on the cost of the card. I refuse to pass these along as "gift cards" to my nieces & nephews because these cards are clearly not a smart financial choice for anyone. These belong behind the counter with the cigarettes. Another option, as the Winn-Dixie store manager (Amy) suggested, is to try to sell them to someone else and get back as much of my money as I can. That would make me complicit in perpetuating the scam, and I won't be a part of it. I'm giving Winn-Dixie 1 star for selling this shady, predatory product, and then refusing to help with a refund. I did not agree to Winn-Dixie's no return policy or NetSpend's policies in the course of my purchase at the register.

THE ALDI DETECTOR!…read more Yes, I am an official Aldi detector. If you have one in your city, I will find it. When headed to our hotel, this is usually our last stop to stock up on snacks and beverages. This time we forgot to make our Aldi run prior to check in and I suffered greatly. I woke up starving at 3:30 am and could only find the Aldi water and oranges that I purchased prior to leaving home. I needed something more substantial. Although I made a last minute Aldi run to stock up on the basics and treats, those items were left behind for my offspring who would be hanging out at the house. This was not a big deal because everywhere we go, we are able to purchase what we need. The next day we head out to find a local Aldi. To our delight, this one was just minutes from our hotel. It is a newer Aldi, (Nov 2015), with great interior signage. We were able to stock up on some our favorite treats, juice and water despite many items being sold out on a Saturday night. When it comes to weekend shopping, I generally try to get it done by Thursday while inventory is still available. This visit saved the day because later that night after we had attended a performance, we needed something convenient to eat but did not want to stop at a restaurant. We went straight back to the hotel and enjoyed our Aldi stash. On Sunday morning when we knew that breakfast options were limited, we again resorted to our Aldi stash, (no shame in that game!) and decided to get lunch later. This Aldi was great because they had our scoopers, (blue tortilla chips with only 90mg of sodium), my beloved cinnamon brioche, (decadence without the guilt), and these wonderful nut bars with a very minimal amount of sugar, (perfect if you are nuts about nuts as I am). These items aren't available in my local store so this was a cool little adventure. Getting in and out of Aldi is effortless. The employees are usually kind and helpful and they are very fast at getting you through the line. If you haven't tried Aldi yet, what are you waiting for? Get going!
