Prepare yourself, this is quite the journey! They completely removed a space-wasting fire place in the center of the house, opening up the space into a lovely open concept living room, dining room and kitchen. While removing the chimney, Devon discovered several dangerous mistakes the flippers who sold us the house did to the support structure in the ceiling, so he also had to install 2 large beams. He knew I really didn't love the idea of the beams sticking out, so he came up with a solution with the engineer to hide them and now you would never know just how much work is hiding behind that Sheetrock. I sleep much easier knowing that the bones of our house were brought up to and beyond code by Blue River Building. They also installed 'outsulation' and new siding and windows. Previously our house was perpetually cold in the winter and sweltering hot in the summer to extremely energy efficient and comfortable. Our kids rooms had these cold walls that would eminate a chill, but not anymore! The change I most love is a show-stopping 5' round window that is the focal point to the beautiful half moon patio. I hope the pictures do it justice. The finish work on the window is so meticulous, I know everyone took a great deal of pride in making it as perfect as it is. What was once a 'blah' house is now the envy of our neighborhood (I get stopped pretty regularly with compliments!) We also had them install new fences based off a design I found on Pinterest, and Devon translated it beautifully for our space. Blue River Building also built a new shed I jokingly say is our earthquake shelter because it's built so strong. We love everything Blue River Building did to our home. It's a breath of fresh air to walk into the space, and anyone who had been in our house prior to the renovation is completely amazed it's the same place. The biggest and most important changes are hidden, as they should be, and my husband and myself know that every penny invested in this house was put to good use.

The guys are very nice, but sloooooow. When you are paying $70/hour (plus 10%) per guy and they are taking their sweet time doing your project, the bill adds up fast. Consider hiring someone who will give you a firm price at the beginning of the project and will work quickly to keep costs down. Devon has his guys doing all aspects of construction (except plumbing and electrical) including tile installation (which they are not proficient at) which added substantially to our cost overruns. It would have been cheaper if he subcontracted the tile work out to a crew that only does tile work and is therefore quicker at it. Be aware of cost overruns and funky bookkeeping. We never got all of the receipts for our project and could not verify if there were any inappropriate or fraudulent charges. Of the receipts we did receive, we were charged for items that his crew needed to do their jobs like screwdriver bits. If we are charged for these items, then they should be left on site when they were done (they were not). Cannot recommend this company to anyone. We ended up using another company in Lincoln City to finish our project, and they did an excellent job for less money and on time.

I eventually found Mike Gile's Eagle Cap Home & Handyman Services, and he agreed to come out and give us a quote, then was able to come do the work just a few weeks later, which was a pleasant surprise. It turns out his company is bonded & insured, and in Baker, that's important cause we've been ripped off by others a few times over the past few years. Mike came out and took care of a laundry list of issues from split yard hydrants, to some pretty gnarly drywall issues, a bit of light plumbing & even painting to finish up some unpainted areas left over from our master bedroom remodel. Mike did some great work, he was personable, Gave us a specific start time instead of a time-range, showed up on-time and finished a day ahead of schedule. Couldn't ask for a better experience!

Brandon's Arros Electric came out and set to work tracing the many sources of our issues, dangerous and irresponsible things like sparking panel loose wiring, splices in all the wrong places, burned out junction box and lots of others. Arros stuck with us and followed through until we finally got it all settled and now we have rock-solid power throughout our home. Thanks to their hard work and thoroughness. They bent over backward to help us at every turn along the way too, when other companies could not be bothered to even call us back. Excellent work, integrity aplenty, with follow-through when new issues were discovered around every turn. Through all the frayed and damaged cable runs, charred junction boxes and hidden splices, they ferreted out and repaired the issues, always quick to come back out when repairs uncovered other problems. Arros was our last hope, and turned out to be our best solution.

2 October 2026 The Point: Eric and Billie defrauded me for…read morenearly three months, using my deposit as an interest-free loan without ever ordering the flooring. The Details of the Scam: The Scam As Intended: Take customer's deposit but do not order product. Use various excuses, always beyond shop's control. Delay and reschedule installation multiple times. Generously offer "inconvenience" deduction on installation balance. If customer has had furnishings removed into professional storage, offer to pay all overage fees. Gage customer's impatience toward cancellation. After weeks of using customer's deposit as an interest-free loan, order the product, install, collect balance due, receive positive Yelp review. Unless. Unless There's a Glitch. My order, placed July 6, 2026, was scamming until September when Eric (owner) finally tried to order the product. He promised it would finally be in by September 22. My stuff was in storage. I had up-coming events which could not be rescheduled. I told him this was the last chance. And the product was back-ordered at the factory. I emailed the manufacturer, thinking this was still a supplier issue. I explained the delays and incorrect product deliveries. Had this product ever been available in my area since July? The manufacturer forwarded my email to an area factory-direct shop with whom they work. Meanwhile I was getting increasingly bizarre plans from Eric. He'd go down to the factory himself and collect the flooring the minute it was available. Then he had to call to get permission. Then he couldn't call his "rep" had to. Then the "rep" had called but too late on a Friday, wait til Monday. Monday the "rep" called but Eric doesn't have permission. So. It'll be ready at the factory Sept. 24, then another seven days--- Nope. I canceled the order. It was September 21. Refund my money and pay what you owe the moving and storage company, two separate cashiers' checks. Eric insisted he had to wait for the supplier to refund the deposit he'd sent. Nope. Forty-eight hours, two cashiers' checks, in full. And waiting in my email inbox was a message from the area shop looking into the email I'd sent the manufacturer which they'd forwarded. Through several emails I was informed "...there was no supplier error. Coverworks Plus was not being honest with you from the time they got your deposit." "From what I can figure out Coverworks Plus Account (sic) with Provenza has been suspended for at least 6 months, so they could never order the product directly. They had reached out to me to get me to order it for them." I began communicating with Eric through phone conversation backed by text, backed by formal letter hand delivered to the display office. I'd already been documenting everything as a timeline for myself. Eric still insisted he had to wait for the supplier to return the deposit he'd made on my order. I told him I would take the cashiers' check for the moving company who were returning my things September 25. I would accept a cashiers' check for half my refund and give him another week on the other half if and only if he produced for me hard copies of the orders with and invoices from the supplier. Impossible. Impossible. The very instant I canceled my order, their business software erased all the records of the transaction. Everything. Irrecoverable. How about bank records? No, no records at all anywhere. From here it was only me communicating by hand delivered letters as Eric became "unavailable". I pointed out that instantly disappearing business records are of interest to the IRS and the Oregon Secretary of State's Corporate Division. Taking money for products not provided is fraud, of interest to the Oregon Department of Justice. And that I'd contacted the law office I use (I had). Eric managed to drag this farce out from Monday to Friday, but September 26 I collected the refund cashiers' checks, had the bank they were drawn on validate them, deposited them and began drafting this review. Of course I'm still out three months, $800 for unnecessary moving and storage, $200 for supplies, ten days on my hands and knees prepping, sanding and painting the underlayment so it can at least be swept. And the entire project to begin again in a few months. "Inconvenience" indeed. Caveat Emptor, y'all.
