At the time of writing, Parklands Fruit & Vege are closed for two weeks to renovate their shop…read more Because they are such awesome people they have made little flyers to put in the bags to let everyone know. I know my household is not the only one who will miss them but they do get mad busy sometimes so I imagine their flash new shop will be worth the wait. The thing I love about this place is mainly the fact that the family that run it are so friendly and hardworking. I also know that anything I buy from here will be good - if it's not perfectly fresh and tasty, they don't sell it. Everyone has had those times with the bad bag of kiwifruit or floury apples or whatever, but if that happened here they would be so embarrassed and no doubt give you your money back. It's that kind of place; they CARE. The pricing is excellent and I've seen them help people carry their stuff to the car, give free pieces of fruit to cute littlies and genuinely be a cornerstone to the Balmoral community - it's like the pub for busy mums; if I haven't seen someone in a while, odds are I will run into them here.

The staff are all family based and each person greets you with a smile when you enter the store. Every time I go there, I am never disappointed. The fruit and vegetables there are always fresh and I can always trust that what I buy is of top quality. Everything there is top quality. Everything from the service, to the products is top notch. This shop has been here since I was a kid. It is one of the only establishments that make Balmoral what it is. Incredibly fresh fruit and a lively store run by a lovely family.

The blackboard signs outside promise bargains and the parking is vast but like I said, more importantly it was en route. These kinds of shops are everywhere in Auckland now and they are not all created equal. This one is great - lots of fresh fruit and vege with the full complement of Asian greens as well as the usual massive range of chilli sauces, soya sauces, pastes, tinned goods etc. Best of all the pricing is excellent and they have all the essentials - it's no good going to a shop like this if you can't get milk and bread as well. Oh, and $2.99 for a big bag of frozen Edamame beans - bargain!

They are really cheap and are great for freezing for smoothies, stewing or for making jam). This fruit world has more than just fruit and vegetables but also has a small grocery section too. There is a large section for grains, lentils and other pulses, nuts, dried fruits and spices, all natural and unprocessed. There is also a range of Italian and Japanese ingredients, oils, pastas and canned legumes. They stock fresh wraps, pita bread and they sell tofu. You could probably do most of your shopping here. If this is sounding too healthy there is also a junky section with candy, corn chips and cookie time cookies and I suspect they sell quite a bit of that stuff. The staff at the store are super friendly too and the prices are very good. What more can you ask for really?

Although I had noticed it in passing I guess I never really paid much attention to what it was all about, it looked like just another dairy with all the milk signs and vegies spilling out onto the footpath for sale. Inside however I was delighted to find some bulk food - spices, grains and nuts, in good quality (I can tell the freshness by the smell of the spices, colour of the dahl and appearance of the nuts). I love to cook, but this year have lost the passion for it, feeling like it is more of a chore than a pleasure. So, in the last few days I have tried to reinvigorate the foodie in me by puling out some interesting recipes. Tonight it will be a tandoori chicken with lots of vegetables and rice. I bought a bag full of goodies from here today and it all cost less than $10. The staff, and a regular customer whom happened to be a chef that passed on some hints to me, were very friendly and helped me feel a bit more at ease in a new and quite foreign shop. Ohhh, and conviently next door is Muhammad Halal Meats, AND they have large traditional middle eastern rugs, very nice indeed.

As well as more specialist items, they also stock basics such as milk, flour, and the like. If you cook a lot of rice, you can pick up 10kg or 20kg bags here pretty cheaply. I think they may have new owners or managers, as recently I went in looking for barberries, which I've bought from them before, and the shop assistant vowed that they did not have them and didn't keep them in stock. Please bring back the barberries!
