Our son has been a student at House at Pooh Corner for a year now and I can say that this is a…read morespecial school. There are many things I like about this school--the love and patience shown by the teachers, the intentional community-building, the inclusive atmosphere--but what really sets it apart to me is thought and care that goes into the design of the educational experience. I am a teacher, and I think a lot about how an educator's vision affects how students learn. My experience has been that many daycare centers either lack any educational vision at all, or else teach a "canned" curriculum devised by an institution outside the school. Not so at Pooh Corner. The educational director works with the teachers to develop a curriculum that is appropriate for THESE SPECIFIC KIDS and reflects their interests. They do special projects based on whatever the kids are excited about--my son's class did a project on shoes, and then another on "gravity" (things going up and falling down). The kids get exposure to lots of different kinds of learning experiences. They have a weekly science class that involves gardening, composting, and bugs. This is not just "experiential" science either--they collect data on their plants (I don't think they call it that, but that's what it is) and compare the ones growing inside and outside! There are options like Spanish class and dance class as well. This is all in the context of lots of free play with a great outdoor playspace, as well as time for physical skills, reading, letters, and numbers. However even the letters and numbers are incorporated thoughtfully into the things that the kids are interested in. The school works as a team with families on big changes like potty training--it made it so easy for us, I think he went from diapers to underpants in two days. They also encourage kids to do as much as possible by themselves, which helps them to be independent.

After a very disappointing experience at another daycare, I can confidently say that House at Pooh…read moreCorner is everything you want and can expect from a daycare. We send our current toddler there, and we plan to send our future infant there as well. (And we plan to have them grow through each class within the center.) The daycare is well staffed and has floating staff, so each room is always equipped with the minimum (often more than) number staff required for each age group. This helps the staff morale, as it seems that no one is over or underworked. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and truly cares about the children and the community. And many staff members have been there for many years (some are former students of Pooh Corner). Notable Pros: -Staff members are ALWAYS "on the floor". They are never sitting in a chair and on cell phones (unfortunately, many other daycares accept this). Staff are actively involved and playing with and teaching the children. -Lesson plans are sent through email weekly. Other emails are sent with pictures of events and other things that the community is involved in. -There is a strong community mentality. Pooh Corner is a welcoming community with many volunteer events, art shows, and social events (at the center and at parents' homes). -Everybody knows everyone else. Because of the movement of staff floaters and the community mentality, everyone knows my wife, my daughter and me, when I walk in (from the director, to the pre-school teachers, to all of my daughter's teachers in the toddler room). This truly makes me feel like my daughter is in safe and caring hands. -Outdoor play everyday (weather permitting). They have a wonderful playground and do things like water play in the summer. -They have a focus on sustainable practices and organic materials. They welcome cloth diapers provide organic sunscreen and bug spray during the spring/summer.

My first daughter experienced many different early childhood music situations and The Music Class…read morewas definitely one of her favorites. We have been to three Music Class locations in Philadelphia and have had great experiences with all of the teachers and facilities. She is now playing cello and at age four, with less than a year of lessons, is already half way through Suzuki book one and is already playing with good intonation. The beneficial impact of her musical experiences as a baby and toddler has far exceeded my expectations. The Music Class combines a thoughtful curriculum with engaging music-making opportunities for babies and toddlers (I only have experience with Music Pups). Class sizes are limited so that each child has enough direct engagement with the instructor. I think this is probably also helpful for shy kids or young babies who might be overwhelmed by lots of people. My second daughter is now enrolled in her second session of music class. She is already engaging with music in a very positive way. She really comes alive as the class progresses and doesn't even seem to notice when it is way past her typical morning nap time. I have really enjoyed The Music Class and would highly recommend it to enrich the musical perspective of young children.

My daughter has (without realizing it!) learned about so many genres of music, about different instruments, tonal patterns, and how to follow along with music. I have been so impressed by Miss Katie's warmth and love for the kids in her classes. She gives 100% to each class, and makes me and my daughter feel a part of something. I feel so grateful to have stumbled upon this course, and I empathically recommend it to you!

There are multiple reasons why I would not recommend this child care facility. First, during the…read morestart of the pandemic we removed our children from this facility due to the fact that schools were virtual and we no longer needed the coverage. The owner was given ample notice so that a replacement could be found. We were required to pre pay two full months in advance and requested our money back (not a small amount for 2 kids approx $3,700). The owner stated she would not return the money even though no services were provided as we paid months in advance. This was frustrating and we went through the proper channels bringing her to small claims court. We won our case and were awarded the full amount by a judge. The owner has still refused to pay even though she is court ordered to do so. In fact there is a sheriffs sale being held at her property as a result. The owner and business itself are not hurting for money by any means as the owner drives an $80,000 suv. Also we were willing to work with her and be understanding of the pandemic by only requiring half of our money back, she refused leading to the court case. The owner is extremely dishonest and spiteful and utilizes unethical business practices. I would recommend finding another facility so that you will never have to experience a situation like this.

He goes on trips, reads daily, practices writing, sings, goes on the computer, and celebrates various holidays with the school. Something to consider- this school has been around for a very long time...decades. Many of the staff are long-term. I've been to other daycare centers, the more expensive, and I've never felt as comfortable as I do with Four Seasons. He's moving on to K in September to Green Woods....and although I'm ecstatic he's going to this wonderful new school, I will miss the staff and kids at Four Seasons terribly.

I watched as she would drag the kids because she was trying to clean. But the second a parent walked in she could somehow pick them up gently? By the time my baby went to toddler B, which had no Ms. Charlene I will add, it got worse. There was a video them reading to the kids and there was a split couple of seconds where a little boy started hitting my daughter. Instead of doing anything the teacher recording chose to cut out my daughter who was getting hit and tackled while the other teacher continued reading like nothing happened. They had more slides that showed my daughter still being hit and they just ignored it. There were a couple instances where my daughter would come home with bumps, like she got hit or somrthing, on her face and when I would ask what happened all of the teachers would say they don't know what happened and they weren't in class at the time. No accountability at ALL!!! Finally for a good year I've been paying almost $300 per day after coverage by CCIS, I voiced my concerns since i was even getting charged when my daughter was absent due to getting sick. After I got approved and it was her last month in Children of America. They called me and my husband saying that they can lower the co pay to $50 and if it was too much we can even lower it to $30. Where was that when I was spending almost a grand per week? Now that I'm leaving you want to help me out? If it wasn't for Ms Charlene trust me, my daughter would be out a long time ago. The teachers for the toddler class has put me on edge, are rude to me, my husband, and my kids who pick up my daughter. They don't watch my kid at all even with me paying a $300 for co pay a day!!! I should've pay more close attention to the red flags a long time ago.

My daughter and I knew we would love COA when we first toured it with Ms Sandra the director. My…read moredaughter started her learning path with COA September of this year. She's a preK student. She has two great teachers by the name of Ms Amanda and Ms Angie, my daughter admires these two women so much. Learning: her teachers have broaden her knowledge on so many things from counting, problem solving, expressing herself, learning the letters in the alphabet and not just by singing them. She's learning how to tell the difference between lower case and upper case letters. Learning about her body parts and how they function. To even diving into fine motor skills and gross motor skills. Going over the roles people play in our community was another. There's much more but that's all I can think of. Events: the events they have are great and brings a huge smile to the little one's faces which just warms our heart. Child updates: I enjoy receiving daily updates and pictures of what my child is doing in preK as well! Another main reason I chose COA Security system: what COA has in place is great and is another main reason why I chose COA. Everyone that we personally have encounters with at COA has been nothing but friendly, kind, sincere, caring, compassionate, and respectful. To name a few of course her teachers Ms Amanda, Ms Angie, then there's Ms Sandra, Ms Daina, Mr Mark, the Chef and the front desk lady (sorry if I spelled anyones name wrong). There's so many others too I just unfortunately don't know everyone's names. I love how COA promotes a supportive learning environment, academics, social, emotional, physical fitness, and health development. I believe their motto is "Mind and Body Matters." Which you can see throughout their curriculum. My daughter loves going to school. I know she feels valued, respected, and safe. The kids are great too, she's made so many friends. Never not once heard anything bad about what other kids do to each other or to her. Once my youngest turns 3 I will definitely apply for her to attend preK here at COA too. Thanks COA team for making Olivia's preK journey so far extraordinary. Ps - so sorry for the rant!
