Look out Garrett's in Chicago. This popcorn place is located in the heart of downtown Port Clinton. The staff there is very friendly and will let you try samples of their popcorn offerings on a silver plate. I left there with 3 bags. They have some unique flavors like apple, margarita, and toffee. They also have special mixes like the Chicago mix and souvenir tins of your favorite branch of the armed forces, holiday, or college football team. Their tin selection is limited, so they my not have your first or even second favorite team. We were here on NYE and the place was packed. It seems to be open year-round however, which is a rarity in the town. If you plan on going off season, it would be a good idea to check and see if they will be open before you go. Otherwise this is a nice place to visit and leave with some delicious and unique popcorn. read more

The web site says you can sample any or all of the flavors and watch the popcorn being made. I took my niece and nephew this morning who were visiting from New York, we were barely greeted and we felt like we were interrupting them. I asked to see popcorn being made and she said it was already made. We asked for samples and we were only allowed two samples per person. We were in the shop barely seven minutes and although the kids liked the popcorn, they really wanted a couple more samples, and it wasn't a fun experience at all. I did purchase some popcorn for the kids and didn't get as much as a thank you. Will not be back. read more

Love LOVE LOVE this popcorn shop! First time visiting years ago we stopped and checked this place out! You can try so many flavors! Don't be shy! I love to buy their salt and butter popcorn and sneak it into the movie theater bc this isn't as greasy and tastes healthier. Plus it's a lot cheaper! I really love their vanilla butternut popcorn especially when it's in a seasonal festive color. Red, white and Blue should be coming out! Yep, that is pretty much my entrance into this place every time I come. I was never a big popcorn fan, something about the kernals sticking in my teeth and greasiness of it. My exception of course was kettle corn. My grandparents live up in Port Clinton and every time I visit I make a stop to the popcorn shop and stock up. The popcorn is not like most flavored popcorns you buy in a bag in a checkout lane. First off, it is fresh. It hasn't been dipped in sugar and sealed in a bag to sit on a counter for months. This place lightly covers their kernals and popped corn as to not bog down the flavor and always makes fresh batches. The popcorn flavors range from Jelly Bean, White Cheddar, Grape, Pina Colada, Walleye Mix, and the list goes on and on. Whether you are in the mood for sweet or salty, or perhaps both (my favorite is the Columbus Mix, with white cheddar and butternut combined). the sampling is unlimited. There is a clean plate in front of each customer at the bar and they will shovel handfuls onto your plate to sample all their wacky and delicious flavors. They sell their bags in small, medium, large, extra large, and even sell decorative tins if you want to buy a gift for someone (or yourself). read more

Popcorn selection good but popcorn brand must not be great as kernel size is extremely small. Caramel corn has a very unique non caramel flavor. It just tastes like a sweet popcorn not caramel. I do like the tasting component. They have tasting plates on the counter and you can taste the flavors before you buy. Mixing is allowed but only within the same color categories as listed on their popcorn menu. Too many complaints by customers disallowed mixing between categories as explained by the young lady waiting on us. Better popcorn quality and a new caramel recipe would make this better. read more

I love a nice gourmet popcorn shop, so I had to stop in when we were visiting up in PC. The inside is no frills, but you immediately get the delicious smell of popcorn as you walk in. The staff is super friendly and you can sample the popcorn before purchasing, which I really like. The salt and vinegar popcorn tasted exactly like the real thing, it was crash how they got the flavor to be so close! I also sampled the pickle flavor, though admittedly I've had better pickle flavored popcorn elsewhere. But you can't beat the prices either! Under $10 for two small bags. I'll be stocking up next time I stop up there! read more

The interior is not much to look at, the exterior is near a fishery(yummy smell), but this place sells some fine popcorn! With flavors like Bacon and Cheese, English Toffee, Strawberry, and 30 more, you will find something to love. I like the Vanilla Butternut and a new flavor, Citrus, which is awesome. In winter they can even drizzle chocolate over the popcorn. Talk about gilding the lily! One caveat, however. Don't buy your popcorn and then leave it in the car as you go to Put-In-Bay! My bag of Vanilla Butternut turned into a torpedo-shaped popcorn ball. I've been chiseling bits of it off since I made that mistake! read more

Great little store. Lots of varieties to choose from, both sweet and savory. Displays make sizes and prices clearly visible. Clerk was very helpful and friendly. I bought the white chocolate raspberry drizzle, which was really yummy. I also have some English Toffee flavored that I have not yet tried, but it smells amazing. We stopped here en-route to Sandusky, OH. Well, I think is better than Garrett's Popcorn since there are more than the 4 standard variety of popcorn. Well, the parking situation is tight so just circle around until a free spot opens up. Plus, I really appreciate that the staff allowed us to sample multiple popcorn flavors until we narrow it down to a few to take home. I ended up eating my buttermilk vanilla crush with peanuts over 2 days. Kristina had the Columbus and Chicago mix popcorn so we were able to enjoy over this week. read more

Let me preface this by saying that I am a popcorn fiend. As in I will eat only popcorn for dinner a few times a month. My husband and I stay in the Port Clinton area several times during the year and always pop in here to try some samples and take home a bag or two. Sometimes it can be a little crowded and the line system isn't clear to some people so take note that if a silver tray is open and you are next in line do everyone else a favor and walk up to it to ask for samples. Don't stand there and stand there and stand there. You can also mix flavors. The most recent savory mix that we tried was Pepper pot (jalepeno) and bacon cheddar. YUM! We used to always get the wild walleye which is a cajun mix but lately it makes us sneeze which detracts from popcorn enjoyment. The salt/sweet mixtures are also good. We like the Columbus mix which is white cheddar and vanilla butternut. It's a fun place to take kids and you can sample as many flavors as you want before settling on one for your bag. read more

An unbelievable variety of really good popcorn. The staff is knowledgable and friendly, and genuinely good salespeople. Upon seeing the prices I didn't plan to buy, but after the lady talked to the kids and myself for a while, and let us sample several different flavors , I had no problem paying for a (very large) "medium" bag for $11, while not feeling pressured to do so. he interior is barebones and not what you would expect. They let ya try any flavor of the 50 or so they have. Don't be a dick and try them all. You can mix or layer flavors in your bag so your not stuck with just one. All flavors are great and taste just how they sound. The bubblegum one is a personal fav. Kids are always nice and they have an Entertainment Book coupon up in that piece. I have never heard of this place and would not have searched it out however, while on vacation in the area, it was recommended to us so we went. From the big deal that was made of it, I expected more. I expected bigger. Load your GPS or you're not finding this out of the way place! You walk in to this small store front and there is a place to "stand in line" and wait for the next server. (Yes for popcorn!) There was no line so we "got right in." You walk up to the counter, as a family; there's a silver tray on the counter with a menu. You go through the popcorn flavors and request to sample what sounds appealing. Now! I say you "REQUEST" but I didn't feel "encouraged." We requested aproximately 5 different flavor samples,; with that menu that's not much. With no one else in the store and two people behind the counter, I felt like I was 'putting them out.' We had every intention of making a purchase but I have to be honest in saying that customer service goes a long way. In many situations, this type of "blah" customer service would have caused me to walk out without a purchase. Because we were from so far out of town, we made a purchase. At first I wasn't happy taking out a couple bags of popcorn for $12. But after realizing how much we had for that price and enjoying it, it really wasn't a bad price at all. My boyfriend and I stopped in here and got just some regular popcorn . He likes popcorn so well we got a large bag of it. It was such a disappointment. The popcorn was so stale! It had a terrible taste. If we weren't out of town I would have taken it back and demanded my money back. Believe me their prices are outrageous! I don t see the hipe about this place at all. Talk about variety! If you can think of it as a popcorn flavor they probably already have it. We were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this business while on vacation in the summer of 2013. Every sample we tried was delicious. The staff were patient and seemed to actually like talking to us and making recommendations. We were never made to feel rushed or an inconvenience to them. We spend many weekends in the Port Clinton area and are huge popcorn fans. We absolutely love Great Lakes Popcorn. Always fresh. Always friendly. The best is the free samples of their products at the sampling bar! I've had a lot of popcorn in a lot of different towns and this is right up there with the best of the best.
