This review is about Christina, Empress Supreme of the Scissors and Comb. I arrived pretty much exactly at my appointment time because I'm used to waiting around at literally every other salon I've ever been to, but as soon as I said my name at the front desk, Christina ushered me to her chair. I had never met Christina before, but I was about to put her through the hairstyling gauntlet, as it were, that numerous stylists have failed. I told you I'm a brat. I asked for her to bleach my hideously long, grotesquely non-blonde roots, cut my hair to shoulder-ish length based on a few photos of myself, and add layers, with a couple of chin-length chunks around my face. I figured, all told, that I'd be in that salon until the next ice age at least, possibly as long as the heat death of the universe, since that's how long most stylists take to bleach my roots. If all went exactly as planned, it might possibly be as little as 3 hours and some change, but that's a level of optimism that not even Mr. Rogers coul have attained, God bless his soul. I even came prepared with enough bullshit to talk about for 3 hours so my stylist and I didn't have to sit there in silence awkwardly averting our gazes so as not to risk having to note the weather for the umpteenth time. I hate talking about the weather, and I'm pretty sure the weather hates being talked about. Christina, goddess that she is, breezed through all of my requests--ALL OF THEM, YOU GUYS--in an hour and a half exactly from the moment I walked in the door. In all my years of bleaching the ever-loving shit out of my hair, nobody has done it with as much swiftness, expertise, and pinache. No little touchups after washing out the bleach. Perfectly even all the way through, first try. Let me tell you that I was so awe-struck--STRUCK DUMB (for once in my life) WITH AWE--that I vowed to never leave Lee's Summit for the rest of my days so Christina can continue to work her magic on my hair. I didn't even get through half of my talking points, like the high-stakes, raucous world of rare Beanie Baby online auction battling (perhaps that's for the best). Like a true Angeleno bimbo, I'm flawlessly platinum blonde all the way through. She gave me some great haircare pointers and suggestions on product, too. In true Midwestern fashion, she was remarkably humble despite my attempts to shower her with praise. LA stylists could NEVER. Go see Christina. She'll take good care of you. P.S. Ron is hilarious and can shoot the shit with the best of 'em. What a character.

I'm a procrastinator and can't seem to make an appointment in advance, so I'm often left with whoever is available on any given day. I've bounced back and forth with several of there stylists and I can honestly say that each and every one of them has been fantastic, skilled, friendly, and professional. I have my favorite stylists, but I won't be naming them here -- I'd like to get an appointment with them in the future! Yes, the sun is shining once again in Halo Salon. Not only can you see hair but also smiling faces! Halo Salon has not only survived the lockdowns but appears to have thrived.
