Anyone who is in the process of organising a funeral is going through a pretty tough time so efficiency, warmth and cost effectiveness is essential. Happily J&T McColgan provides all three. Jane has organised a few funerals of people I know as did her father, who ran the business before her. After watching Six Feet Under, it feels pretty good to support an independently owned funeral parlour instead of one of the chains.

Like most of us, when we suddenly lose someone we care about so deeply, you can lose yourself and fall apart. Our family had the sadness of losing my mother on the 22nd Dec 2022, I had to put my father in hospital 6 days later, in which he still resides. Having no knowledge of the complexity of being stuck in live trauma/pain and having to figure out, understand and basically try and move forward with arranging the funeral, if it wasn't for Jim and his team, I would never had made it. We never managed to get my dad out of hospital to say goodbye to mum, this will sit with me forever, however Jim and the team where fantastic in offering flexibly, support and compassion. Jim managed to move the funeral date twice, sadly this great gesture was not enough to be able to assist my dad in saying goodbye but the efforts the team was willing to go to, blew me away. We did not have the a funeral director when mum passed, this was the worst experience ever, this added layers of pain and stress. Later, after speaking with Jim and his team, he mentioned that in the future, if this ever happened again, no matter if you have a policy with us or not, just call 24/7 and we will be their within an hour to ensure your loved one is taken care off and taken somewhere safe. This blew my mind, if I had only had this knowledge earlier. The service, flowers and cars were emasculate, our mum would have been proud how beautiful she looked, decadent, regal. The cemetery is fronted by a huge stone archway which certainly sets the tone for your visit. It's set in beautiful surroundings, with green grass, leafy trees and attractive views. The Lambhill Cemetery is a large cemetery and mainly populated (is that the right word?!) by much older graves. The first burial there was in 1881.

The co-op offered a budget funeral at extremely short notice and managed to arrange everything that was required. Thanks to them, the day went extremely smoothly and the stress was kept to a minimum. The facilities they offer are pretty basic but they are pleasant, comfortable and satisfactory. There are decent sized separate viewing rooms as well as a large service room. Most importantly, there was no sign of other families around. So, it felt less like a business and more private.
