I've passed this memorial so many times but only stopped to find information about it this week.
It's found in the middle of a grassy area beside the promenade, just south of the pier, and commemorates those from Largs who were killed in the First and Second World Wars. There are statues of men from the three services carved into the very pale stone. A square area surrounds the sculpture and there are three steps which lead up to it. The memorial bears the names of 85 men killed in World War I and 67 in World War II.
It was sculpted by Kellock Brown of Glasgow (1856-1934) and unveiled in September 1921. read more
