The bagels are great but the customer service is just down right bad. I order avocado to be added to my sandwich (and pay $1 for it) but 9 times out of 10 it's not on there. Today they forgot my order completely and left me waiting there for about 10 min. They do not smile, say hello or thank you. If the bagels weren't so yummy I'd never come back. Get it together! This is one of my favorite places to stop by before early class. They're amazing as an early morning bite (before 9 am, then it gets packed but I'm so impressed that the staff can get through huge rushes without a meltdown). Their sandwiches are simple but satisfying every time. It's a little confusing on a busy day when you walk through the doors at Grateful Bagel. The dead references are a cute kick that sets this restaurant apart in the charming ultra crunchy town of Sebastopol. The sizes they offer in ice coffee could be a little larger but the coffee is delicious. The bagel choices are vast and you can put almost anything you could imagine inside as well. Good god. This place is disgusting. The bathroom toilet hasn't been wiped down in forever. The cutting boards are black and don't appear to have been sanitized in ages. Everything is grungy. Ugh. We were starving and decided to eat here anyway. It's like a sauna in there which explains the girls working there dressed totally inappropriately for food service in beach attire. I ordered off the menu board. The menu said turkey and herb cream cheese on the bagel I ordered. I added avocado. I get a bagel loaded with veggies and some cream cheese. That was it. I told the lady and she added turkey but cut the bagel in half but not the turkey. I had to go back and get a knife to cut it. Still didn't get the avocado. What's funny is she was cutting up an avocado while making the sandwich. My husband said make sure that doesn't go on mine. And put it on my wife's. I guess it disappeared? Wasn't on either. The menu board really isn't accurate in the coffee section either. My husband ordered a coffee and got an iced drink. The menu said nothing about that. Anyway the fact this place has not been cleaned in ages is reason enough not to go. So gross. The lady gave me a card for a free coffee for messing up my sandwich but I left it there. Won't be back for sure. I mean really. The health department should shut this place down. I have eaten here for 8 years. My kids like to stop here and get bagels. And I will continue to stop here only because of the convenience factor. But... This is really a poor excuse for a bagel store. -The service is really lame, so so slow. Usually the staff is surly towards customers, and it just has a bad 'vibe.' -The lack of a bathroom is really really horrible. They could have a stupid porta potty in the back, but their contempt for their customers keeps them from doing this. I can't over emphasize this point. Not having access to a bathroom is deeply wrong. We have a sick society where you need to buy something if you need to urinate, but here you can't even buy access to a bathroom. After having traveled with close relatives who had urinary issues, and having seen their pain at having 'accidents' because of lack of access to bathrooms, I find it absolutely intolerable for a business to deny access to a bathroom. Also, and somewhat amusingly, Grateful Bagel can't keep an inventory of the basics. They are regularly out of lox. Lox! A friend said 'this shows the difference between the East and West coast - on the East Coast a bagel store which regularly didn't have lox would be so thrashed on their reviews that they would have to close down in embarrassment' read more

I have yet to find any bagels that rival Grateful Bagel. Their bagels are perfectly soft and full of flavor. They serve them sandwich style as opposed to face up and now I can't stand to eat a bagel any other way. My go to's are always the pizza pesto or the pizza bagel. One of these days I'll try someone else. I've found that they go a little overboard on the cream cheese so when I ask for light cream cheese it's the perfect amount. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because on my last visit they were out of avocado! A bagel from Grateful Bagel without avocado is just not the same. Thankfully Grateful Bagel has stepped up their game! :) I really like coming here on my way to the city on early mornings. My boyfriend loves the Spicy Egg sandwich. I always find myself with a jalapeño bagel with a coffee. I love the iced chai, but they also make good coffee. I also tried the pane they offer with black olives and cheese. It's super salty, but so yum! I liked the burnt cheese on the ends and it was pretty hard to not eat it all in one sitting. So hard that I didn't. Whoops. The prices are still on the higher end for just a bagel, but it's so convient I always end up there. read more
