Not a great experience at all just to save a couple hundred. Do yourself a favor and just get your headstone done locally.

    Earlham Cemetery - Earlham Cemetery

    Earlham Cemetery

As a student at a nearby seminary for multiple years, I became familiar with Richmond's Earlham…read moreCemetery. As you might guess, Earlham Cemetery is just down the street from Earlham College on U.S. 40 in Richmond, Indiana. The cemetery was started during the Civil War, actually 1861, and became incorporated in 1863. 140 acres are already landscaped and the cemetery has 160 acres left to develop. It's a rather huge cemetery that includes a wide variety of sections to try to meet a wide variety of needs. There are special sections such as a Veterans Field of Honors, a section for those of the Jewish Faith, a section for Masons, and a Mausoleum Chapel for above-ground burials. There are two Columbarium buildings available for cremated remains. The parent organization of Earlham Cemetery also runs two nearby cemeteries - Lutherania Cemetery and Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Earlham Cemetery includes a handful of semi-famous personalities including a Civil War General (Thomas Bennett), two former Congressmen (David Dennis and Henry Underwood Johnson), a radio personality (Harry Frankel - also known as "Singin' Sam the Barbasol Man!"), and a former Dakotas governor. While certainly not an exclusive cemetery, it does seem like a lot of folks here have some tie to the nearby Earlham College. While I haven't dealt with Earlham Cemetery standpoint, I have attended a couple burials here and spent quite a bit of time here in prayer and reflection during my studies in Richmond. The people I've met here have been professional and compassionate, while the grounds are well kept. As is true of almost any cemetery, the grounds are not perfectly accessible - there's some hilly areas that are definitely challenging. That said, nearly all of the public areas are accessible and if that's a concern for burials there are plenty of accessible spaces to choose from. Earlham Cemetery does have a full-time staff available Monday-Friday.

Long established cemetery that is well maintained. Trees, hills and creek create a picturesque…read moreand peaceful setting.
