The store changed hands some time ago. The new owners don't seem to be present. The staff member they have there doesn't know anything about anything. The prices are higher on the same items they haven't sold through from the previous owners. Just after the store changed hands, I ordered some bottles online. When I got to the store, the price was higher. They honored it and then took the item down from the website. It's now just a generic liquor store that sells some decent things at an elevated price. Sure, those warehouse wine and liquor stores have great prices, but all of them combined don't have anywhere near the knowledge of G&G's small staff. Isn't it worth a few pennies to get something exceptional? Ever hear of Angel's Envy? Staff knows that I like new and different things so when it was noticed I was buying a small batch rye, Angel's Envy came up. I eventually bought a bottle and couldn't be happier. And if you like single malt whisky, you won't be able to find a wider selection in one store, except maybe a place or two in Scotland. I also like to go in and ask for a wine recommendation. I might think I know what I want, but they are always able to steer me to a bottle in the right price range that pairs perfectly with how I plan to drink it and is usually something I wasn't thinking of or knew was available. read more

Store is a disaster. Boxes literally everywhere making it difficult to walk down isles. Wine bottles covered in dust and the employees really don't seem to care. When I went in two were sitting down behind the counter talking about how horrible it would be if they had to work full time there. Awkward to listen to as a customer. I purchased 2 bottles of wine that were both about $2 more than I pay at the other wine store. The bottle of red I bought had the most disgusting sour taste, it obviously had gone bad. I drink this exact kind a lot and never have I had a bottle taste like that. I am not one to write long reviews complaining especially for a small business, however my experience really upset me. It actually ruined my evening. If this place plans on making it in these times I would suggest getting off their butts and cleaning up the place instead of complaining in front of customers read more

I worked a winetasting here in October 2016. I thought the staff was extremely attentive, greeting every customer as they walked in, and offering them assistance. They had a mix of seasoned and new staff working, but there were a few staff working there that clearly knew their stuff which was very helpful for the patrons. For such a small store, they actually had great prices and an above average selection of pretty much everything. They had a lot of high-end whiskeys, and a lot of higher and wines that you don't normally see in a store of the size which was a pleasant surprise. I actually bought a bottle of Antica while I was there because one of the bigger boxed stores did not have it in stock earlier that day. Because the location is on the east side of the Hudson river, this location is a no-brainer for Troy, East Greenbush, and Averill Park crowd. read more

I looked long and hard for a particular Bourbon, to no avail. I called Grapes and Grains, and true to their word, they offered to order a single bottle for me. I was just there today, March 3 at about 1:30. Apparently if you roll out of bed and throw in work clothes ready to buy a specific flavor of cab sav....you will be disregarded as subhuman. My customer service experience consisted of shouting from the front desk "we don't have it in that price range". How insulting. I almost felt like ninjas to start haggling UP! I'm an artist and was planning on a good bottle of wine for my day of painting. I can afford a 100.00 bottle if it was what I wanted. The weak "sorry" as I left did not relieve the sting. As far as wine & liquor stores go, this is one of my favorites. They have great prices and the staff is always very helpful. Often I go in looking for various liquors to bake with or a recommendation for a wine for a gift and they are able to give me a great recommendation that is not going to break the bank. read more

I am so beyond livid after my experience in this store today. My advice to you: Don't go in there with an out of state ID unless you want to stand there for 10 minutes. Not even if you're clearly over 21. I still have a FL license from when I lived there a few years ago. The woman takes my ID and is examining it for about 2 minutes while I wait before she says "I'm gonna need another photo ID." I say "Sure!" And hand her my Hudson Valley ID. She sits there staring at them side by side and goes "Do you have another photo ID that also has your date of birth on it?!" I say I do not because I do not carry around a passport at all times. She goes back to examining it and I give her a few credit cards with my name on them. She then calls over a manager. He then QUIZZES me about the information on my license!!!!!! Then he asks "Do you have another photo ID?" I say "Yup, right there!" He goes "With your date of birth?" I ask him who he knows who carries a passport around?! This ID has never caused me trouble anywhere else, and I've also used it there before!! I let them know I can go somewhere else. He goes "Yeah, I'm not sure I'm comfortable." I ask "Would you like to see my social security card?!" And I give it to him and he goes "Okay, go ahead and sell it to her." MY BIGGEST REGRET IS GIVING THESE IDIOTS MY MONEY! WOWWWW!! read more

Wow! I can't believe I waited so long to come here. Recently I was in need of a very specific bottle of whiskey. I called multiple places and couldn't really get my hands on it. As soon as I called Grapes and Grains they told me they would try to help me out. After taking my number, I got a call back within 15 minutes letting me know that not only had they ordered the whiskey, but it would arrive the next day! When I finally arrived at the store, I was greeted by two lovely ladies who were more than willing to assist me in finding some additional purchases. I've never felt such a level of customer service in a liquor store before. Even though the shop is a slight drive or of the way for me, I will be making this my go to spot for spirits and wine. read more

This is the best liquor store in our area. I needed to get a certain brand of scotch and they ordered it for me. The prices are the best and the customer service is outstanding. I will be using them as my store. It is a little out of the way for me but worth the drive. No matter what the question or how busy they are they always take the time to help you out. read more

This store has a great selection of wines and cheerful and helpful service. It has ruined me for any other wine shop in the Capital region because no other place has such a varied selection of reasonably priced wines! I am not very sympathetic to people who complain about being asked to produce valid ID, which is after all, the law! read more

Grapes & Grains has been my go-to spot for a few years now, as it's a convenient stop on my way home from work. The staff is among the friendliest and most helpful of nearly any store I've visited, and not just for a liquor store. I literally make it a point to stop here to give them my business, even though there are three other liquor stores I could stop at on my way home. Customer service goes a long way, and the staff here does not disappoint! They also have a great selection of bourbon, gins and vodkas, as well as a ton of wines taboot!
