My sister, myself and my son spent about 3 hours at this wonderfully fun after work retreat! We started off with a series of wine-tastings and then on to settling in for an evening of a bottle of wine and integrating with the ambiance and entertainment which was wonderful! Pinky and Pepe are gracious knowledgeable hosts! We bought a bottle of the Llicorella and a bottle of Firestone's and a plate of cheese and crackers. Pinky spoke informatively and objectively about a variety of wines from 15.00 bottles to 60.00 bottles and -- our bottles represented the opposite ends of the range! They were both wonderful but the Llicorella superceded our expectations. The cheese and crackers they choose to serve with their wines are an exceptional accompaniment! Last but not least the ambiance was cozy but not stifling and John Lopez's musical entourage was over-the-top fun! I love that the musicians invite audience participation . . . playing the more simple aptitude range of instruments! This place is hopping and energized! I've been to Pinky and Pepe's just to purchase wine and to sit and relax a glass in house. The prices are great and it's really nice to have a place that doesn't charge a corking fee. Every time I go in I as for a bottle recommendation and I'm never shown a bottle that is more than twenty dollars. I love the free tastings and the tasting machine. Just like other reviewers though, if you go on a Friday night it will be packed and extremely loud...so if you are looking for something quieter, I suggest going on another night. read more

Prices are inflated to reflect the Kentlands location. Selection is poor, but you can't really expect miracles from a wine store the size of a one-car garage. You can generally find the bad wines that the average person seeks out because they are on a restaurant menu somewhere at 500% markup. The biggest issue, however is recommendations. A wine store as tiny as this place depends on repeat business. I worked wine retail for a while. You have to listen to the customer's needs and fill it with the best of your stock within their specified price range. Do that well and they'll come back to you specifically because they will remember that you did your best. I could have recommended 6 sparklers under $20 that were better wines than the stale plonk you handed my wife for her party. Everybody loves the notion of "support small business!" because it's supposed to be about the mom and pop individual attention, right? But if you can't even match the cut and dried customer service of a huge store like Total Wine, it shouldn't surprise you that people drive to McLean carrying your wine bottle bags (and yes, I've seen it from behind their tasting table many a time). read more

I am disappointed in the customer service. The two employees behind the counter did not acknowledge me or assist me in any way during my visit today. The woman at the register was very short and cold. I said "How are you?" and she did not respond until I asked again as I was standing right in front of her. She did not ask If I found everything ok nor did she ask if I wanted any bags for my multiple wines. The experience was so strange. I asked her if everything was ok and again she ignored me. I asked again then she replied "Yes, I'm fine". Generally the staff is kind though I felt invisible today...she didn't even ask for my ID. read more

If you are looking for a place to enjoy a great bottle of wine or specialty beer this the place! It gives you a cozy feel to where one could find them self there all day on a Sunday! The owners Pinky and Pepe make it point to introduce them self to you and if your wine person Pinky the person to go to! The staff that works there......... they are awesome! They are very accommodating and if you walking not knowing what you want the manager (Andrew) will try his best to help you find a good fit! I always find something new to try when ever I'm there. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, especially about food and wine, but for me and my dollars, this place misses the mark. The atmosphere of the place is not warm, cozy or inviting. The service is slow and often comes with attitude. The wine selections are uninspiring and over-priced. And, as for that silly, wine-by-the-glass machine, well let's just say I've seen it before at resorts who try to appear sophisticated, but... it's just a means by which to charge people more money for less wine (and usually not very good wine at that). If I'm in the mood to grab a glass of wine with friends in the Kentland's I think I'll stick with the Wine Harvest where at least the atmosphere is neighborly, friendly and inviting and I can actually get someone to wait on me with a smile. read more

Pinky and Pepe's is the BEST!!! They are wonderful owners, great store, great prices, great selections. We are regulars and appreciate all they do for the community. Disregard post presented by M.W. We were there. Had nothing to do with neighbors. On a previous visit wife was very rude to staff and since Pinky and Pepe support their talented staff they stood up for them and ask that couple to leave. They have the right to refuse service and it is not discrimination. We've been coming to Pinky and Pepe's since its opening. We do not get to come often with two kids, but the owners have been exceptionally warm and inviting each time. They have even recognized us in the community and been friendly when not in their store. The wines may be a bit pricey, but nothing more than any other sit down wine place. The Grape Escape is absolutely fantastic! From the moment I stepped foot in the door, I was greeted by a lovely employee named Grace. My husband and I had enjoyed a great bottle of wine at a local restaurant and haven't been able to find it anywhere. I had a picture on my phone of the front and back of the bottle. Grace took a picture of the wine from my phone and called the wonderful owner Diana Mejia. Grace went above and beyond and took my phone number down. Not even an hour later, Diana called to say the wine was ordered and would be in the following week. They were so accommodating as we wanted to take some bottles of wine for our family's Thanksgiving dinner. Diana even made recommendations for other events we were going to and these were great too. Customer service is stellar at the Grape Escape! Support this fabulous local business and you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended! read more

My husband and I have been to P&P's several times and have always enjoyed ourselves. We love the casual atmosphere and the live music is always a pleasure to hear. The prices are a little higher than other wine stores so I don't typically buy wine to go from here, but my husband has been pleased with the bottled beer selection despite the price. What we do like is that it's such a nice place to grab a few adult beverages before heading to dinner. They also offer some delicious cheese and meat plates that are great at satisfying munchies! DISCRIMINATION! Yes, DISCRIMINATION is against the law - Pinky and Pepe's Grape Escape, Wine Store - In the All American Community of the Kentlands, Maryland. Friday, November 18th, 2016, my wife and I stopped there to listen to her friend, of 35 years who plays there monthly. We have done this regularly for years on Friday nights when she is playing and meet family and friends, relax and enjoy the music. Pinky has also posted our family and friends on the Grape Escape Facebook several times throughout the years. Imagine our surprise, as we approached the door to see our next-door neighbor couple sitting at an outside table. (There has been a feud between us for several years.) We said nothing and immediately walked into the store to say hi and see our friend. At this time we were approached by Pepe, the owner, and another employee. Pepe informed us that the neighbors (who were outside/we were inside), had asked him to have us leave immediately. He said if we did not leave he would call the police! We did leave out of respect for our friend who was playing there. I cannot believe how the owners handled a situation completely not related to their restaurant in such a discriminatory manner. Thankfully for us and other like-minded, freedom-loving residents, The Robert Weidmaier Group has provided us with Tommy Joe's North, The Coal Fire Group with Coal Fire and The Meyrowitz family with The Wine Harvest. All of these other great establishments do not discriminate, have great service, entertainment, nightlife and wonderful beer and wine selections. read more

*This review is based on their beer selection and the staff, I don't know enough about wine to comment on that* I've been here a few times now, and compared to the other beer and wine stores anywhere in Rockville or Gaithersburg, this one is by far my favorite. They have a pretty good beer selection, it's not quite as exotic as some stores, but you can definitely find something you'll like. Where this place really shines is it's staff. Every time I've gone in I've met someone different, and they're all incredibly friendly and helpful. I've always gone in just wanting beer, but after a few minutes here, you'll want to stick around and chat with the staff. I live about 7 miles away ( a really long distance around here!), but the staff is so friendly that I drive right past the 5 or 6 other specialty beer stores that are closer to me, just to give these guys the business. Another thing that's very cool here is the food. The first time I was here, I thought their menu was a bit lacking. By the second time I visited, they had partnered with the other restaurants, so now you can enjoy a pizza with your drink. As a personal aside, I also think it's very cool that this is a military-friendly place. The owners have a son in the Marines, so if you're a service member, you'll get more than obligatory, mumbled "thanks for your service," here. read more

It is a fun neighborhood hang out. Large selection of beers and wines. They have wine tastings and beer tastings every weekend. Wish they served food. It is a cool hang out place in the summer and nice to meet friends for happy hour. We go there with other couples and talk. The staff is usually very helpful with your wine choices. They have one of the worst wine palates that I've ever seen - I've given this place a try at least six times and have never gotten a good bottle of wine. I've been here a hand full of times. The recommendations I usually get are just okay. Nothing fantastic or anything I had to have again. Usually I get pretty friendly help, but today maybe they just were in a bad mood. The most recent experience I had was not so great with the customer service. I think maybe I wasn't knowledgeable about my wines and the person who helped me just seemed to be annoyed. I asked if they had a certain bottle that I was looking for and I gave specific origin and type and name. They said they didn't carry it and so I asked if I could get any recommendations on something similar. For some reason this seemed to be annoying. I got a rude impatient response of "What exactly are you looking for?" " I need to know exactly what type of wine you are looking for." The condescending tone took me by surprise. I was a bit lost after that because I thought I just gave the exact name and type of wine and I wanted something comparable. The whole conversation just didn't settle well with me. I got the two recommendations after I asked if she could help me find something similar to what I was looking for since they didn't carry what I had in mind. I was trying to process what just happened and didn't like the way she made me feel as a customer. I contemplated on walking out of the store but I was under such limited time and needed to get something. I should have just walked out and not purchased anything. However, I just grabbed the two bottles because I wanted to get the hell out of there. I honestly will not purchase or walk into that store anymore. read more

Why should I go to a place that has a mediocre selection wines that are way overpriced with an ambiance that is pretentious, so you can be treated with an attitude. The lady with the fake smile is condescending and disrespectful. The decor is simple and functional and the wines are a tad higher than going to the MoCo liquor store, but that's to be expected when you can sit down and enjoy your purchase. I visit Grape Escape at least twice a week. The wine ichoices are top notch and very reasonable!! However, the reason for frequently visiting Grape Escape is the friendly, family oriented atmosphere. I am always greeted with a smile. The owner's knowledge of wines is vast. You will never be steered in the wrong direction. So I went here for the first time on Friday 12/2/16 around lunch time to shop for wine for a holiday party. The second I walk in I was greeted nicely by this lady who I assume is "Pinky". She asked if she could help me and I told her that I was shopping for wine and that I'd like to browse first. It took me maybe 3 minutes to browse the wine but did not see the label I was looking for. She kept looking at me which made it uncomfortable while I checked things out. I made it to the beer coolers and she says to me from across the room, "hey what store are you from? I know you're from a store!" I was confused and not sure where that was coming from because I'm not from a store and her tone was accusatory. Also, the way she was looking at me was the opposite of welcoming. I replied to her that I was not from any store and asked her what she meant. She just said "fine" sarcastically and walked away but obviously very ticked off at me because she didn't believe me. I decided not to buy anything there so I left. I see some positive reviews on here so she doesn't seem to treat everyone that way. Maybe she was having a bad day, but that's how she treated me so that's what I'll share. read more
