The staff were excellent. The food was amazing. Everything really appeared to go like clock work. After dinner everyone went outside to chat and mingle the night away. The heatwave we were experiencing made it feel like the Mediterranean. After the reception room closed, we made our way to the hotel bar. Greeted by a very affable bartender, he was able to give a history of a few of the pelts and stuffed animals displayed in the room. He was a good laugh too. It's only fabulous, Castle Durrow. A great day and night was had by all.

We've been in Carrick for three weeks, staying nearby, and walk to the hotel's restaurant nearly every day for tea, coffee, scones, and sometimes for lunch or dinner. The Carraig has the best wi-fi internet we've found in the town, giving us a chance to remain in touch with home in the U.S. The staff here is the best, friendly, helpful. They're open from about 8 AM until late, and can pull a really nice pint (or half-pint if you prefer) of Guinness, as well as a selection of other beverages. We haven't had occasion to use the hotel facilities, but no doubt they'll measure up to the downstairs. Thanks to all the staff for providing a home away from home.

Located in Kinnity county, this castle sits atop a hill just below the Sleeve Bloom mountains. You drive through woods, turn a soft corner and BOOM, there's the castle. It's magnificent! Old Gothic style, dungeon and all. The castle is equally beautiful inside. There are dozens of rooms inside, all at different levels of the castle. We stayed in a big room up top. The view is the grounds out front was beautiful - a huge field, surrounded by woods and containing a ton of deer that just seem to hang out. The bed was huge - two queens side by side, so we slept 4 across (and one on the floor) and had plenty of room for everyone. There are four spots to eat on site. A nice restaurant, and three bars including one in the library, one in the dungeon and one outside. The grounds were magnificent. There are miles of trails out back, tons of small structures to explore outside, a lovely courtyard that housed an abbey and even a sport court for those so inclined. We also had afternoon tea in the front room. A wonderful experience with nice tea and lovely little sandwiches/cakes. They don't give it away, but it was less expensive than a nice spot in Dublin. All in all, this was a homerun! It's something we'll do again in the future and you should do if you're in the area!

It's a comfortable old shoe of a building, with some modern day polish. Bustling staff efficiently take care of you at reception or steer you into the dining room. There's always a carvery for lunch- which is always well attended. Given its location in the centre of the town square, parking is close at hand in the centre of the square. Just not a warm first impression. We were exhausted and starving, and that was a dumb rule. The woman at the front desk was not particularly pleasant, and she was also the bartender. Our room was sub par, cigarette burns in the tub. No extra toilet paper in the room when we ran out. And the broken thermostat was blinking the whole stay, begging for a filter change...gross. The china was also dirty at breakfast. The only pluses I will give to this place: the sitting and dining rooms were decorated well and the OTHER staff (NOT the receptionist/bartender) were pleasant. The room was in poor condition--there were black stains on the bed sheets, and the walls were paper-thin. I could hear every movement from the room next door, with noise so loud and constant that I could feel the vibrations through the wall. It's clear the building is extremely dated and completely lacks proper soundproofing. I called reception at 1:00 a.m. asking them to speak to the guests next door. The noise continued for another hour and a half. I called again, only to be told the receptionist knocked on their door but got no answer. At no point did staff take real action to ensure guests could actually sleep--which is the bare minimum any 3+ star hotel should provide. The worst part came the next morning. When I explained the situation to the receptionist, Fiona, she instantly became defensive, argumentative, and downright rude. I calmly asked for compensation, and she responded with aggression and insult. This is not just bad service--it's horrible aggression towards guests! I then asked to speak to the manager, Catherine, who was more composed but dismissive. She refused to offer any resolution or apology and bizarrely claimed she had "never received a noise complaint in 50 years." And "we had no other noise complaints from other rooms" implying that I called reception twice at 1am and 2am for no reason?? When I said I would be leaving a review, her response was a sarcastic, "Oh, and we will respond." Not a single apology. No accountability. Just arrogant staff with extremely poor, defensive attitude. This hotel has serious problems--not just with the quality of the rooms, but with a rude, aggressive, defensive and outdated customer service culture that clearly sees complaints as a nuisance rather than an opportunity to improve. If you're looking for a clean, quiet, and respectful hotel to stay, avoid the Templemore Arms Hotel at all costs and stay in a B and B instead! You will get more sleep and the walls will be not as thin as paper!
