An unlikely store in the middle of downtown Bozeman, Old Bozeman Beads has some cute and some…read morekitschy items for the tourists. Once you get past that, though, there's an impressive display of all types of beads. Unlike many bead stores, this one has signs asking that you put a clip on the bead string you're interested in, and the staff will bring it to you. While I understand why that makes sense because it's a small store and things get misplaced and restocked in the wrong place, having to wait for someone to find your pin and bring the string to you is awkward. Things look different when they're in your hand versus hanging on a wall. I found some beautiful Austrian glass and a variety of wood beads that are difficult to find in most stores, and the prices are way more reasonable than I would have expected in a tourist-driven area. There's not much room in this small shop, so any more than 3 or 4 people and you'll be close to knocking things off the wall and shelves. Go early in the morning or late in the day for the best chance to really see everything.

I decided one morning I would go in and have a look around. My experience was less than positive. In fact I was so taken aback by the rudeness of the store clerk I will never give them my business. I've received "not-so-great" service at other places before but I chalk it up to bad days, personal reasons, etc. This was an entirely different story. When I entered the store the lady behind the counter, "Barb" was on the phone. So as not to be rude I stood back and waited for her to be done with the call. She hung up and I approached the counter. She did not look up. I did not want to break her concentration so I waited. She still did not acknowledge my existence. I was starting get annoyed. Someone from the back of the shop called for assistance and without looking at me (I'm not even two feet in front of her) she hurried off to help them. I couldn't believe it! A moment later, after she finished helping the person, she did not return so I peered around a display and found her standing in the middle of the shop staring at the ceiling. I inched closer hoping she would take notice of me this time. Still nothing! It wasn't until I was close enough to touch I spoke up. "Excuse me," I ventured. The look on her face was a look of disingenuous surprise as if it was horribly wrong to interrupt her ceiling meditation. It turned out the item I was after (the one in the display) they didn't carry. False advertising if you ask me. However, I was instructed that I could admire the item from OUTSIDE. Yes, that's right, she ordered me out of the store! Unbelievable. I also work at one of the many fabulous business here in downtown Bozeman. I often have people wander in looking for other businesses or even to do business with us but are confused by the building. I always greet them warmly cause I really am happy to see them even if I can't help them. Employees are the faces of the companies they work for and have a large impact on the customers and communites they serve. Old Bozeman Beads, you're doing it wrong.

She will roll her eyes at you, fling your stuff back at you with the worst look on her face. Her distain on her face towards people of color is also very disgusting and if I were running that store, I would address customer service across the board. The gentleman that works there is very pleasant, and truly is the only reason we kept going. Someone also needs to refresh the staff on RAS and tell the woman mentioned above that a drivers license is not the only form of Identification. I've been going to this location off Baxter and 19th for years, multiple times weekly spending anywhere from $20-$50 dollars a visit. I will NOT be returning to this location, or a town pump, for the next foreseeable future.

Instead of taking the initiative to help their coworker, one of the younger gentlemen just put a closed placard on the register closest to him and resumed talking to the third employee. I won't go into specifics of what was said, but I was cursed at when asked if someone could open another register and told, "call the f****** corporate office" as I was leaving the store. Obviously, I'll head to another fuel station. Under no circumstance would I ever patronize this location again.
