Deacon, Kayla and I stopped at Grantham Pointe in Mt Dora, Florida located near Gilbert Park. We parked in a small shaded lot. The cool breeze off the lake felt good. First we went over to check out Alligator Metal statue...to hot for Deacon to sit on. Then we saw some birds and squirrels. We took walk out to the small lighthouse and beach chair for photo opts and Deacon enjoyed the hammock. Great little free park.

Grantham Point is located on Tremain Street across from Gilbert Park on Lake Dora. The park is also known as Lighthouse Park. Grantham Point was created from rubble and fill. One of Mount Dora's most famous landmarks, the lighthouse is located at Gratham Point. At a cost of $3,000, the lighthouse was paid for by civic groups and organizations. The 35 foot lighthouse was created from bricks and stucco and it was dedicated on March 25, 1988. Although many people consider it to be a fake lighthouse, it is registered to aid inland navigation, the only lighthouse of it's kind in Florida. The lighthouse has a 750-watt photocell that powers a blue pulsator that sends out a light to guide all of the boaters on Lake Dora after dusk. You can see the lighthouse from several area parks on the lake. Also located at Grantham Point is a cannon that dates to between 1690 and 1730. It once shot off cannons from Spanish treasure ships in the early 18th century. The cannon was supposedly retrieved from the bottom of the ocean in the 90's by city council member Jim Conway who donated it to the city. In 2011 it was placed on a brick platform at Grantham Point. Other park amenities include a boat launch, benches, fishing pier, and picnic table. I saw so many birds at Grantham Point, egrets, herons, ducks, anhingas, and common grackles. The birds gather around because the fishermen tend to feed them. I even saw a baby alligator, possibly a descendant of Old Joe swimming around. Mount Dora is very proud of their little lighthouse and uses it's image in many promotional pictures for the city. A visit to Mount Dora would not be complete without a stop at Grantham Point and it is the perfect place to watch the sunset in the hammock they have by the shore.

A super cool n chill spot in Mount Dora. Great place to people watch n watch life on the river. Whilst we were there we saw a few alligators. The lighthouse is fake, but still listed as an historical site. A very pleasant spot to watch the sun going down. Info about it from the internet - About the Park Located on Tremain Street across from Gilbert Park on Lake Dora, Grantham Point Park is sometimes referred to as "Lighthouse Park". Grantham Point Park was created from road rubble and fill to create one of Mount Dora's famous landmarks - the lighthouse. Built to represent the "Port of Mount Dora", the lighthouse appears on many symbols. Recently the "point" has undergone a major facelift and has returned to its former self - "Mount Dora's Favorite Spot".

Beautiful little park with the Mount Dora Lighthouse on Lake Dora- this is a local historic landmark. This little gem is considered Mt Dora's "favorite spot". My daughter told me about it and the giant chair for photo ops. The 35 foot lighthouse was dedicated on March 25, 1988. Built of bricks covered with stucco, the lighthouse stands sentry over the Port of Mount Dora. It's 750-watt photocell powers a blue pulsator sending out a guiding light to all boaters navigating Lake Dora after dusk. There are also two parks adjacent to this one- one across the street that has plenty of playground space and pavilions and another with boardwalks and trails to the south to give you beautiful nature views of the lake. Next time we visit I want to do more hiking of trails! I will be returning to the Lighthouse for more pictures!

The park was created in 1926 when Sadie Conner Trimble who was the first postmistress of Lake Jem and her husband R.J. Trimble donated 71 acres to create Trimble Park. In October 1978, Orange County purchased another 31.5 acres from a failed development and used it to create the campground area. The main feature of the park is the picnic grove and playground at the end of the road. My favorite part of Trimble Park however was the hiking area where there is a 1.3 mile loop trail suitable for all ages and hiking abilities. The trail takes you around the perimeter of the triangular shaped park and down to Lake Beauclair where ancient oaks ring the lake. Over the trail are mature wild citrus trees which produce fruit and blooms throughout the year. Birds you might encounter include osprey, ibis, red-winged blackbirds, and herons. Trimble Park also has a 15 site campground for groups, trailers. and single tents that is set around a small cove along Lake Carlton. Here you will also find fishing decks and a launch for paddlers. It is easy to see why this park is a favorite outdoor recreational destination for families, campers, and nature enthusiasts. Whether you're looking to camp, hike, fish, or simply relax, this park provides a welcome and peaceful retreat in Central Florida.

A paved path surrounds a retention pond. The path is about a half-mile around, good for walking, of course, and even for biking. We live close to the park, so we ride it when we have less time to spare or as part of a longer ride. You will see long legged water birds there, and occasionally a small alligator, especially in winter when they like to float in the sun. So no swimming allowed! There are also exercise stations every fifty feet or so, and recently they added a set of 18 disc golf nets for tournament or individual play. Some are near the pond while other nets are in the nearby woods on paths. There is also a fine rest room building with plenty of parking next to it. I believe there are a couple of picnic tables near the rest room building, as well as benches on the trail. If you go there to walk your dog, I would suggest using a leash as sometimes a dog roaming free wanders around and you will want to be able to control your fur baby. You probably won't run into a kitten with a fish hook in its side as we did. But I can report a happy ending as the little rascal is the latest member of our cat family.
