We had a great experience working with Grant. We contacted him after we had already submitted an offer with a 15-day close, and he was able to get everything done on time without any hiccups. He was extremely thorough and knowledgeable about every aspect of the home loan process. As first-time homebuyers, we were pretty out of our depth, but Grant answered every question we had and made sure we understood what was happening at each step so we could feel confident we were making the best decisions for our family. I would recommend Grant to anyone in the area looking for a home loan. read more

He spent countless hours educating me so that when I was ready to buy my first home, I had all the knowledge I needed. I trusted Grant in this entire process and he guided me every step of the way. Grant went above and beyond what he provides and I can't thank him enough. I highly recommend Grant's services to everyone. If you don't know where to begin, start with Grant! read more

Grant was the most devoted lender I could imagine working with. He held my hand all the way through the process. No question was too big or too small. He was thorough, honest, hard working and timely. Grant checked in with me, continually. My husband and I heard many harrowing stories about buying a home in the Bay Area but still decided to embark on the process... and did so with the wrong mortgage broker on the onset, so we can definitely speak to how Grant is the best mortgage broker out there. For context, we made an offer using a pre-approval and pretty awful guidance from a different lender during a rushed process for our first attempt. While doing so, every step of that process felt wrong and we decided to reach out to Grant, who was a referral from a friend. The difference in service and care that we received from Grant was astoundingly different -- he took the time to explain every single detail of the borrowing process to us and took us to the finish line for our very first home. The combination of expert knowledge and attention to detail made us feel so comfortable -- there was not a single step that Grant did not communicate, from the very detailed list of documents he needed (spoiler: it's a *lot*) to understanding the exact timing of deposits, payments, and signatures. Every figure he shared was accurate to the penny, and he even managed to save us money with closing costs via appraisal costs and credits, and home insurance. There was not one single time we reached out to Grant without a prompt response, and we always felt like he was on our team. Grant is the epitome of going above and beyond -- he also worked so well with our real estate agent, taking steps that not all mortgage brokers will do, and we all agree that everyone needs a Grant. If you are in need of a mortgage broker, do yourself a favor and get yourself a Grant! read more

My wife and I were pretty far into the process of trying to buy our first home - we had a good chunk in the bank, gotten our credit up, looked at a few houses and had submitted paperwork to a mortgage broker (not Grant). That mortgage broker was frustrating us with his lack of communication so I went on yelp and found Grant. On a random Sunday he talked to me on the phone for over 2.5 hours! It was extremely educational. Just a few of the things we discussed: -How he believed Covid-19 would affect the mortgage industry and the housing market. -How the mortgage industry works generally. I'm ok with numbers but I'm not a finance guy. He explained things in plain english that I could understand. -The difficulties with verifying self-employed income. I'm self-employed and he was able to point at specific things in our tax return that could be problematic to lenders, how to fix them and gave me advice on how to do our taxes in the future. -Details on mortgage insurance and up front mortgage insurance payments. -DTI (debt to income ratio) Once we dug into my numbers, he was frank in telling me that he would have trouble finding us financing for the purchase amount we were hoping for. He gave us some action items for improving our DTI and getting to the purchase amount we wanted. Furthermore he offered to be a second set of eyes on anything we discussed in the future with our first mortgage broker or anybody else. Since then, I've emailed him multiple times with questions and he's responded promptly with clear, easy to understand advice. I'm really grateful I reached out to him, I've learned so much and I can't recommend him more. read more

My wife and I first started working with Grant two years before buying our home. During that time, Grant allowed us to work under our timeline and was very patient in educating us on what to expect from the process. His greatest attributes are his attention to detail and always having his client's best interest in mind. His expertise and conservative approach gave us the confidence to pursue our dream of owning a home. Alison was also invaluable as she helped us cross the finish line with the closing process details. We are so grateful. read more

My refinance closed just a few days ago and I could not be happier with the process and results. Grant was a pleasure to work with and got us a better rate than I could have imagined. He kept the paperwork to a minimum, thoroughly explained every detail, and moved quickly to lock in a rate when the time was right. I had refinanced with another place earlier in 2020, and was shocked by how much better Grant is at finding great rates and delivering on customer service. I can honestly say that I would not go anywhere else for mortgage or refinance assistance. read more

In March 2018, we decided on purchasing a home and thought of the stressors of the process to complete the purchase. There was so much to decide on and having to find a loan officer we could trust was a major stressor. We were fortunate to have met Grant Michels. Our initial contact with him was at his office. We had to bring our children with us for our appointment. With three children under the age of 4, Grant had to educate and ensure we retained the information. Grant had to teach us on the process of buying a home and what was needed from us through all the crying and running around of our kids in his office. Grant was patient and I did not observe a negative demeanor from him. The major factors on why we continued to remain with Grant was we were able to meet him AND he would be very responsive if we either emailed or texted him. When Grant responded he provided an elaborate explanation ensuring we understood what was told. Grant uses a DropBox which makes it much more efficient to submit documents. When it was time to make a decision on interest rates, he provided us with several options and verbally and visually explained if we chose a particular option. We believe he put in his utmost effort for us to obtain the lowest rate possible for our scenario. Throughout our experience to purchase our home, Grant was phenomenal in his a service. I still can't quite believe how someone could be so diligent to provide help to us even after we completed our purchase. We truly appreciate Grant and Alison's (Alison Omoto) help and HIGHLY RECOMMEND him! read more

Grant Michels Mortgage went above and beyond to keep us updated during our Re-fi. Grant found us a great rate and went out of his way to account for every dollar during the transaction. There were no surprises through closing. Grant is easy to communicate with and answered all of our questions promptly. We would not hesitate to recommend Grant Michels Mortgage to anyone considering a home purchase or refinance. 5 Stars all the way!! read more

Grant was very helpful in understanding our mortgage needs and walked through all the different options available. We've purchased homes and re-financed before and can honestly say that Grant's approach is outstanding. He organizes information in an easy to understand way and prepares you for what to expect so that you are comfortable at every step in the process. He's extremely responsive and his fees are reasonable. Would recommend him again in a heartbeat! As our notary mentioned when we signed closing documents: "You're working with Grant? Then, this should go pretty quickly because his clients are always informed about what's happening." read more

This is the second time I've used Grant to refinance my home. In both cases, Grant was a complete pleasure to work with and made the process as easy as possible. This time, I was refinancing to bring money out for long term maintenance. I am retired so getting a mortgage is not as easy as when you are employed, Grant was reassuring and with his help I was able to move ahead. During the process he was thorough in explaining each step, and patient in helping me understand the things which I found difficult. He's very prompt in returning calls, emails, and texts, and he made me feel as if my transaction was his top priority. I'd use Grant again in a heartbeat. He is simply the best! read more

I would give Grant 100 stars if that was available in the rating! I recently completed a refinance with Grant. My experience with Grant was so positive that I recommended Grant to my family and friends. If you're a full-time working parent like me (with another one on the way), you will love working with Grant. Grant is an excellent communicator. Not only is he extremely responsive, he provides updates throughout the entire process and thoroughly explains each step of the process in a way that is easy to understand. I especially appreciate the Excel models and spreadsheets that Grant put together to help me decide the best rate option. Grant is a true professional and in all my interactions with him, I can tell that he really cares about his clients. At my request, Grant had to use an escrow and title company that he normally doesn't work with. Grant was proactive in following up with the escrow company to prevent delays in getting the loan approved. Prior to signing all the paperwork, Grant sent me a detailed email explaining what documents I need to pay attention to, and let me know he's reviewed everything and had no concerns. Grant is always patient when answering my questions and never makes me feel rushed. Most importantly, Grant is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He advised me to only provide relevant information (based on my situation) to not overburden the loan officer with unnecessary information, which may delay the approval. This approach is effective and saved me time. My HOA had incorrectly answered a question, which could have jeopardize getting the loan approved. Grant went through the entire HOA document to point out the correct provision to the loan officer, which helped us closed the loan timely. You won't be disappointed with Grant! read more

Grant Michels was a referral when I was looking for a mortgage broker to purchase a house in 2012. The experience I had with him then, was so positive I contacted him again eight years later to assess my current financial options given that the interest rates were at a record low. Within a matter of days he was able to put together a refinance strategy which was implemented within a month, resulting in a 26% saving in monthly mortgage payments at minimal refinance cost. Grant Michels is one of the most professional individuals I have ever come across in my 40 year career. He is honest, smart, clear, polite, punctual, and most importantly an expert in the mortgage business. He goes out of his way to make sure his clients understand the figures and processes clearly. My husband and I were referred to Grant through my sister and brother in law. Both my sister and brother in law had nothing but positive things to say about Grant, and reassured us that we would be in good hands. All I can say is that Grant not only lived up to those expectations but he EXCEEDED them! Being first time home buyers, we went into this process not knowing much. After the initial phone call with Grant, it was clear how knowledgeable, patient and professional he was. He explained each step, always pausing to make sure we both understood every detail. Not once did I feel that I was bothering him with a question or comment that I needed something clarified. Grant is highly responsive, professional, knowledgeable, efficient, organized and easy to work with. (The list could go on and on!) Without a doubt, I would refer him to any friend or family member. I was referred to Grant by our realtor (David Lewis at Sereno Group). Our first meeting was via phone call, whereby Grant made a quick introduction and provided some basic information regarding the loan process. Through our initial phone conversation, I could immediately tell that Grant was highly knowledgeable and felt very comfortable talking to him about our situation. In our first in-person meeting, he not only explained the mortgage process in detail, but presented the information in a very logical, understandable way that addressed all the questions that I had. Over the next several months of our home selling and buying experience, Grant periodically checked in with us to get updates and ensured that our financial information was up-to-date. Once we started to make offers, Grant was very responsive and prompt in preparing the pre-approval letters for timely submission to the sellers. He also offered to contact the selling agents directly to provide additional context on the strength of our purchasing ability. In the case of the home that we ultimately purchased, Grant spoke with the selling agent, and I believe this provided additional reassurance and confidence to the sellers of our strong offer. During the escrow process, Grant and his team worked quickly and efficiently to provide the lender with the needed documentation and information to ensure a smooth transaction. As a result, we were able to close escrow a few days earlier than the initially proposed closing date. This was even more impressive given that our escrow period spanned across the Christmas and New Year holidays. Grant's vast knowledge, experience, promptness, courtesy, and professionalism made the financing portion of our home-buying process so easy and worry-free. I would definitely recommend him highly to all of my friends and colleagues looking to purchase a home. Thank you, Grant! read more

We had a unique situation in that we purchased a new home and then went to refi it immediately. To do this, Grant started by reviewing many of the contracts that we had with the initial lender and builder to make sure that we were not going to be penalized. Once that was confirmed, he worked with us to find a product that fit exactly what we needed. He kept us informed every step of the way, explained the process to us as we went along and really could not have been more thorough. Everything worked out perfectly for us and we are very pleased. This is an easy 5 Star review and would be 10 if possible. Thanks again Grant! read more

I just got off the phone with Mr. Michels. I think he realized almost immediately that I was not going to qualify for a refinance. But he patiently stayed on the phone with me for over an hour. He explored multiple alternatives to refinancing, brought up many ideas that I hadn't considered or was not aware of, and was generally more patient with me than anyone else I'd contacted. I will be taking his advice and pursue an alternate option and, hopefully, be able to work with him properly in the future. I wish I had him on my team when I first got my original mortgage! read more
