My symptoms were severe anxiety from trying to get off progesterone (I'm a sensitive snowflake). My blood pressure was sky high and my regular doctor didn't know what else to do for me, so she suggested neurofeedback. My anxiety was so severe I was crawling out of my skin. I felt like I was going to explode. I had seen a friend a few days earlier that looked amazing- she had healed from her bout of anxiety after getting off her meds and she recommended Robert, so I scheduled with him. The image of her peaceful face in my mind's eye was enough for me to commit to giving LENS a try for 10 sessions. During the 4th session my anxiety went away! That was enough for me to know LENS was for me. Over the past year, Robert has completely changed my entire neuroendocrine system! He has cured with LENS my supposedly incurable conditions of Adrenal Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. (look it up- Mayo clinic says it's incurable). I started treatment on March 12 and a few weeks later on April 4 was my last migraine day. (I had been averaging 3 days a week of migraines for about 7 years). I haven't had a migraine since! I'm completely off all meds including hormones, B12 injections and Metformin! I've got energy like I used to! I'm no longer napping, no longer bed ridden, I have energy to give and serve. I have energy to have job again. My gums are no longer inflamed with the pockets at the dentist previously going from 5's and 6's down to 1's, 2's and a couple of 3's. He has extensive training in many types of neurofeedback and the brain. He uses LENS neurofeedback because he gets such quick and long lasting results. His expert and extensive training helps him customize the LENS protocols to fit my special brain and body issues. He spends the time and energy to treat me correctly and maximize my healing. When I first started treatment, I went twice a week because my nervous system was highly activated (it was an emergency situation). I started feeling much better in the second week! As my brain and body has calmed down, I only go in once in a while for a LENS treatment. I had been struggling with my chronic conditions for 9 years. It was like being on a roller coaster of cascading symptoms. Now I feel stable and am rebuilding my physical health to lose weight I gained being sick and rebuild my physical strength and stamina. But I completely lucked out in finding Dr. Kennedy in this crazy city and I'm really grateful. Though this is my first experience with any kind of therapist, I can tell that he's seriously talented at what he does. I actually look forward to my appointments and feel better leaving them. I understand he specializes in LGBT issues, but that's not what I went to him for. I saw him for family-related therapy, but I suppose it just goes to show how versatile he is. He's sensitive, understanding and also was encouraging, which surprised me. But he only gave praise when it was due - which makes it feel more genuine. His office is in a building that reminds me of an old school, and it's centrally located and easy to access from the N or R trains. The waiting area is just two chairs outside of Dr. Kennedy's office and another Doctor's office, but the doors are surprisingly sound-proof. I was afraid that people sitting in the waiting room would be able to hear my loud speaking voice, but I realized while sitting there myself, I couldn't hear a thing. It's a decent sized-room with a sofa, in a professional setting and he always has a full box of tissues on the side table. He also has a good online service for you to communicate with him, book/see/cancel appointments and even text message alerts for upcoming appointments, which I appreciate as a busy individual. I'm not completely done with my treatment, but I know that with Dr. Kennedy as my Doctor, I'll be fine. In such a short amount of time, he's helped me tremendously and overall seems like such a genuine person. The doctor/patient relationship quickly feels as comfortable as a friendship. He remembers all of my family/friends' names that I mention during treatment and uses them himself, which makes it feel so much more personal. I definitely recommend Dr. Kennedy. I went as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and as a mother grieving the loss of my son, also a Marine Corps veteran, who died by suicide. I entered that space to heal in what was presented as safe and trauma-informed care. Kevin Cannella attended that retreat and acted in a therapist role. The experience involved participants being in highly vulnerable and altered states. While I was in that vulnerable state, he used his personal cell phone to take a photo of me and later showed it to me. I did not consent to being photographed under medicine. I was visibly exposed and felt embarrassed and violated. Taking that photo in that setting crossed ethical boundaries for someone acting in a therapeutic role. In that moment, I lost my sense of safety. I became fearful and hyper-aware of how vulnerable I was. I could not stop thinking about where that image could end up or who might see it. I had recently learned about a private group chat where images of women were shared without their consent, and that was at the forefront of my mind. I began to think about the possibility of that happening to me. I could no longer focus on my healing or the session. My attention shifted to protecting myself in a space where I was supposed to feel safe. This experience caused me significant distress and a mental health crisis that lasted for months. This was not an isolated incident. He engaged in additional behaviors that intensified the fear I experienced. After the retreat, multiple participants told me he startled them as they were coming out of the experience. Multiple participants also told me he promoted his podcast to them and asked them to be on his show while they were still under the influence. When someone is acting in a therapist role, people trust that their safety, privacy, and dignity will be protected. That did not happen here. I raised my concerns directly and did not receive a response. Following that, he was removed as the primary representation on the organization's website and is now listed as an advisor.
