This place in the morning seems to fill up fast with reservations, so we made sure we arrived a half hour after it opened. You come in, and basically seat yourself if you can find a table that is open. Menus should already be on the table, but ask if you need them. Again, learn some German and ask if the waiter or waitress can speak English. We were lucky that our waiter did speak English well enough to order. They do have English menus, but thanks to Google Translate, we ordered from the German one. Since I knew how to speak in German, I ordered for my husband an omelette with cheese and tomatoes, and I decided to try their homemade pancakes, which was actually a crepe with their "buffet" jam. The buffet was literally a shelf along the wall with all different kinds of homemade and store brand jams. Each was more spectacular than the next! Excellent choice for something different on the menu. My hubby's omelette was super yummy and flavorful. The service was not rushed in any way, and the vibe here is very relaxed and laid back. We could tell people were truly enjoying themselves and not rushing to go run off to do something else. If you don't have time to kill, this might not be your place. Great food; great location; great for us!

When a Manager Becomes the Reason to Leave a Restaurant!…read more Our visit to Sunny Side Up was unfortunately one of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We stopped by for breakfast before leaving Frankfurt and had already placed our order. I was carrying a paper bag containing a muffin from another shop. The muffin remained in the bag under the table the entire time. I neither ate it nor took it out of the bag. A young man who introduced himself as the manager then approached our table. Instead of addressing the situation politely, professionally, and discreetly, he loudly confronted me in front of other guests in an inappropriate manner. His attitude was aggressive, condescending, and disrespectful. Of course, a restaurant has every right to set rules regarding outside food. No one was questioning that. What was completely unacceptable, however, was the way he chose to treat paying customers. When I explained that I was not eating the muffin and expressed my concern about his behavior, he showed no interest whatsoever in resolving the situation constructively. On the contrary, when I said that we would rather leave under those circumstances, he essentially told us to go ahead. So we left the restaurant, leaving our already served coffee behind. In my opinion, anyone who treats guests in this manner is not suited for a customer-facing role, let alone a management position. Hospitality is not merely about enforcing rules; it is about treating people with respect, tact, and basic decency. His behavior reflected the exact opposite. What I find particularly troubling is that this kind of conduct increasingly seems to be regarded as normal. It feels like a reflection of a broader societal decline in courtesy, respect, and common decency. This is simply not how customers should be treated. The name "Sunny Side Up" appears to aim for an American-style breakfast culture built on friendliness, openness, and good service. Unfortunately, it remains little more than a façade. While the restaurant attempts to imitate an American concept, it fails at the very thing that defines it: friendly, professional, customer-oriented service! We left the restaurant disappointed and upset. Based on this experience, we will not be returning and unfortunately cannot recommend Sunny Side Up.

I'm glad to see that there's a big world out there, and my life's dream is to make my way through it, one cafe at a time, calories be damned. There are some sacrifices in life that are totally worth it. Amelie's is a tiny hidden slice of heaven with a stunningly charming interior, expansive menu, and good service. The atmosphere is one of serenity and beauty, with delicious coffee, great lunch options, and beautiful pastries. It makes me hungry all over again, just thinking about Amelie's, and I don't mean just physical hunger. I mean a hunger of the soul that craves to be satisfied with the charm and contemplative grace that Amelie's provides. It makes me happy to be alive, knowing that such places exist.

The staff are friendly and most speak good English. English menus are on offer but at this stage we kinda know the menu so don't both bother. My usual is Zwei Eier Im Tasse, which translates to 2 Eggs in a cup, or in this case a glass. They come with either brotchen (crispy roll) or toast. I usually get the roll. The eggs are medium soft boiled, shelled and served in a glass with the bread on the side, and an enormous packet of butter. If you're used to the tiny individual sized packets you get here you;l be pleasantly surprised, it's more than enough. Coffee is also good quality. They do a good selection of sweet and savoury baked goods as well, although we haven't really sampled them much. This is a nice place to start a busy day's marketing, and provides enough for breakfast without being overfull for all the tasty meat and potato related treats that the market vendors have on offer.

I'm super forgiving when it comes to interactions where I am a foreigner anywhere. I don't expect folks to speak my language and go out of my way to follow local norms, but the woman we encountered today was rude just to be rude. At first she ignored us (the only two people in the store) when we ordered zwei croissant, then (after we also fought to order two cappuccinos) she got angry when we didn't have €0.20 in change (the bill was €10.20 and I only had €15), and proceeded to just take the ten euro, throw the five back at us, and walk away and clearly talk shit about us while she made us cappuccino. The quality of the croissants and cappuccino was fine, but you can certainly find those elsewhere.
