We walked in dejected thinking our do-it-ourself project was completely out of the realm of possibility. We spoke with the Asst. Manager, Jason, who took 10-15 min to show us around, discuss recommendations on products and prices, and made the whole information gathering process a breeze. This place is 100% the best home supply store period. Do yourself and your wallet a favor, go see them.

A few days later we began to actually start shopping for the remodel and I went there just to take a look as I had more or less made my selections online with Lowes and Home Depot. Sooooo glad I did and so grateful that I got to deal with John the manager. He was not only super helpful and knowledgeable but had a great eye for design. I changed my vanities from MDF at Home Depot to something almost the same but in solid wood and saved over $400 on each. The tops were Uba Tuba granite with a square inlaid sink and again were almost half price. Then we saw the shower door of my dreams! Maxx frameless, super clean looking and $350 cheaper than Home Depot. Having chosen the vanities that were in antique white we used a sample door to try and find suitable tiles. In the end John himself agreed that they had nothing that worked particularly well and allowed me to take the door for half a day so that I could go elsewhere to find the right tiles. Every time I had to purchase something from faucets to toilet roll holders I went there first and John was the first to say that they could not help me if I had a specific request. Never once did he try to 'sell' me a product. When the vanities were delivered and the backsplash cracked there was no fuss or quibble.... went right to the others in stock and swapped them out. I thought initially it was some cheap outlet but the products I purchased were all high end and of great quality and price. I probably saved about $1300 on items bought here rather than Home Depot. In fact I was able to get exactly what I wanted within my budget. Without Surplus Warehouse I would probably have had to scale back somewhat. The staff are very nice and helpful but if you want helpful with design ideas see John. Strongly recommend.

It has taken me a while to write this review. We were so upset after working with this company I…read morecouldn't put it into words. Let me explain our correspondence with Forrest Construction. We signed a "turn key"contract to have FC build our home on April 8th,2022. We paid the $5000 deposit. The communication with the owners, and their Realtor, Jennifer was pretty much nonexistence. When we finally did get started, although it was a turn key contract, right away they wanted more money ($2000) for a slight change in the plans, which we would have had our architect change had they asked. Again no communication! Then I scheduled a time to go there as we were living in Tennessee. I was going to pick colors etc. When we got there I felt Mrs. Cindy Forrest was rushing us and really wanted to get to her lunch. As I was there Mr. Pete Forrest came in and did not acknowledge me only talking to my Realtor. They had scheduled the land clearing while I was there so I could let him know which tress I wanted to keep. The guy came out one day for a couple hours. He told Pete it would be more $$ to clear the lot because the lot was bigger than they expected. Pete then tried to get the money out of us, although the size of the lot was in the contract. I was able to talk to his land clearing guy and negotiate a lower price. Even though that was not my job to do so. They then told us it was in a flood zone. Thank goodness our Realtor knew it was not. Then they said it was swamp land, again after we paid the county to prove it, it was not they then told us "I wish you would just get someone else to build your home. After that unfortunately Mr. Forrest passed away. At this time we agreed to let them out of the contract. Mrs. Forrest wanted to give us only $475. of our $5000. deposit back! After plenty of discussion we finally were able to get $2500. back but not the full $5000. which we should have. Working with Forrest Contracting was one of the worse experiences in my life!!!!

Unprofessional and lazy are the best words I can think of to describe for Forrest Homes. Forrest…read moreHomes went out of their way to cut corners and only half-finish tasks. Starting from the outside in, the yard of the house needs to be completely redone. They will water it and make it look presentable for closing, but after walking on it for a few weeks, you will start to make unwelcomed decoveries. The roots to the grass are shallow at best due to the mountians of debris that are just covered up with a little dirt. This debris includes whole roof shingles, nails, 2x4s, an entire bag of concrete, and plastic bottles and trash. Because of all the debris, the grass will start to die the first time the weather is cold, dry, or overly rainy. The brick work is subpar for even the most novice of masons. The bricks were replaced three separate times dues to how poorly they were laid. They are still not completed, but I have decided to hire someone myself to fix them because the last person who came to fix them killed the remaining grass in the front yard by throwing bricks and mortar on it and never cleaning it up. The house itself is actually pretty well done, but do not expect it to be finished on or around the scheduled time and make sure to check everything on a weekly basis because they will install all the sinks, countertops, and lights. The house was set to be completed on or before August 24th. During the first week of August, they told us that they were on track to complete by that date, so we informed our apartments that we would be leaving at the end of August. One week before the 24th, Forrest Homes told us they were behind and would not make that deadline, but they assured us that they would be finished before the end of the month and we would be in before September 1st. At this point, we started driving by the house daily to check what had been completed. For the next week, almost nothing was done. Long story short, we ended up with no where to live until the 20th of September. To summarize, have a professional check the grading and sod, have someone you trust check all the brick work, do not sign anything until everything is 100% what you want because they will not return calls once you close on the house (even if it is in the closing documents. It took 3 months to get a window and screen replaced), do not expect them to attempt to stay on schedule.
