Summer 2017 we decided to have the deck replaced on the home we had bought in Deer Creek fall 2016…read more I asked several contractors to come out and give us bids. While Mike was the most expensive, we thought he seemed knowledgeable so we moved ahead with his firm. We were scheduled to have the install done the first of August, so planned other work around his schedule. Summer 2017 was unusually rainy, and because we live near a natural wetland we had some water issues on one side of the house. In order to not damage the lawn, I asked Mike to use the access on the other side of the house (which was actually closer to the old/proposed deck). He literally threw a fit and refused. When my husband pressed the issue, Mike informed us we would need to pay 90% of the cost of the deck ($40K) in cash the day he started. He also said that he is not responsible for any property damage caused by his crews and he would be using a bobcat anywhere he liked. This all came down the week before he was to start our project. Needless to say my husband was less than pleased, and after contacting a lawyer to speak with Mr. Jansen (who refused to return our deposit of several thousand dollars), our money was returned and we parted ways. However, we wasted a whole summer dealing with this less than reputable individual. Do yourself a favor and pass Mike Jansen Decks over, he's not interested in customer service and you will pay for any damage he does to your property--its in the contract.
