The lunch menu was extremely standard - the usual run of Dutch sandwiches and salads. We had a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc although the waitress passed some serious judgement about our lunchtime drinking. The interior looked a bit shabby during the day but I can imagine at night with the lights low you wouldn't notice the chipped paint and dirty floors. Sad to say, at least during the day, this place is nothing special.

That's where 2 stars come in: they made an effort to squeeze us in and the staff were friendly. We were done in time for the show but that might have been the trouble: my sate, easily outdone by some ready-made microwavable meal from the supermarket, wasn't cooked properly. And a member of my party missed the 1st half of the concert because he was throwing up in the bathroom. The cheapest main course was just under 18EUR. Not worth it.

Otherwise those waitresses hustled and we were asked multiple times how the dinner was going. Food- 8/10 because even though the taste was the bomb, there wasn't a lot of meat on my chicken. The bread was mostly crust with no middle. Otherwise the food and drinks were really good noting the unusual sauce on the chicken, super egg froth on my porn Star martini and fresh tuna ceviche. Ambiance- this would have been a 10 if there wasn't a huge party there playing extremely loud music in the back which made my date and I had to somewhat scream our conversation over it and constantly repeat ourselves. In the future, I'd recommend shutting the place down for such parties. Therefore, I give it a low 6. Sorry guys.

I have no idea how "authentic" it really is, but the chef is an older guy who comes out and tells you what's on that night's tasting menu before you order, which checks off a bunch of boxes on the "authentic" checklist. The food itself was really great -- the tasting menu on our night was shrimp, red mullet + mixed seafood, duck, and a cheese plate. All four courses were outstanding. The shrimp was super soft and really interesting, the clams really stood out on the second course, the duck was fantastic, and the cheese course kind of blew us away -- I asked for the strongest ones they had, and they definitely came through, including a pretty stinky blue and a dutch cheese that was just excellent. One recommendation: go with good company. It's roughly one course per 30-60 minutes, so you're gonna be there for a while if you do the tasting menu. We didn't mind this, but with a different group, we may have. The food was really excellent though. Awesome spot.

But nothing could be further from the truth. The food was excellent, the service was respectful but low key and the chairs offer the utmost comfort. I've returned to this restaurant many times over the years and spent long evenings relaxing in those comfortable chairs, enjoying great food, great conversation and feeling very spoilt. I invariably choose a three or four course menu, which changes daily. It's a nice way to try something I might not have chosen from the a la carte menu. I was here again very recently. Fortunately nothing has changed. If I were to make one criticism it is that the house red wine is meant as an aperatif and is not really suited to any of the dishes.
