Scania Bar - Kimchi Fries-so good & great for sharing!

I decided to try Scania on a Monday evening-not happening as they were closed & only do lunch on…read moreMondays. Guess Taco Tuesday was meant to be. We arrived around 6:00 & all of the regular tables were taken (or reserved) so we took a high top in the back. They have a good selection of mixed drinks & beer & given they are known for their Tequila drinks we went with the Elderflower Mangria. A bit tart, some sweet and all excellent! We ordered the Beef (Yaki Niku), Pork (Al Pastor), Chicken (Dak Bulgogi) & Jackfruit Tacos. All were very good with a nice balance of spicy from the peppers and sweet & tangy pickled onions along with the tender/marinated meats. Beef was the best & Pork/Jackfruit are tied for second. The portion is decent and two are enough unless you are really hungry. We wanted the Kimchi fries but they weren't available on this Taco Tuesday unfortunately. We ordered the regular fries & they were ok. I would check to see what's being served at dinner before making the trip The ladies serving & at the bar were friendly & service minded. That said, a bit stretched as they were doing it all except making the food so at times service was a little slow. Overall, the restaurant/bar is cozy & I was skeptical about Korean/Mexican fusion but they are making it work! A hidden gem & I'm looking forward to returning to try lunch & other entrees. .

They have this concept of Mexican Korean fusion which might prompt a proper "WHUT?" from you, but to tell you honestly - it works. Sure, it might not be the real thing, whether it's Mexican or Korean, but they're tasty stuff and I'd be happy to eat bibimbap with yakiniku beef (that's my favourite, btw) for lunch (slightly better deal than dinner, imho) with a margarita on the side. Food is food, and what's good is good. Service is always friendly and you can get a salad and free coffee / tea on the side, that is if you don't want margarita or the refreshing lagerita (recommended!), or maybe you're just being greedy :P Do check their opening hours and days though because it seems that they were closed for lunch service in weekend or something like that.

Heard about it & passed it many times in the past year & on a Tuesday night it was time to see what…read morethe hype was all about. It was packed/fully booked. Our choices for dinner (day before reservation) were seating at 6:15 or earlier or 9:15 or later so reservations well in advance are recommended. We started with cocktails (& they had a few creations) & had a "Buried in Sand" and a "Holy Mule-" Both excellent! Our server was helpful & made some wonderful suggestions once she found out it was our first visit. All the dishes (small & large) are great for sharing. As it seemed a staple of the menu (that changes daily) as well one of their specialties we decided to start with the Bastard Planka. A nice variety of house cured ham, salami, chorizo, pate & pickles-one of the best I've ever had. Also ordered the Klemmings Oysters as our second starter. So fresh, salty & exquisite! For main we ordered the Cod & the Munka Pork (as Pork is their specialty). Cod was cooked to perfection and the Pork had a crust that took it to another level. Both dishes were amazing! We finished with the Pistachio Ice Cream and Paris -Brest. Loved them both but the Paris-Brest is a must try! My only regret is not getting here sooner. Wonderful vibe with great service! They also have a bar area (open kitchen) where you can grab a seat to try some of the entrees or just have a cocktail, beer or glass of wine if they are fully booked. Will definitely be back. Michelin rating well deserved!
