Most of the classes down here are a part of the "cohort" option for the MBA program at Davenport, but you can score a course or two downtown if you are taking one of the other paths. The campus is right next to everything that is happening downtown, it's within walking distance of just about everything and Rosa Parks Circle is essentially across the street, which is nice when you have an evening class that allows dinner breaks. You can just duck across the street in the warmer months and hit up a food truck and often enjoy some music. It really is a cool little place in downtown GR.

Classes available run the gamut from traditional high school to AP to college dual enrollment (at no additional cost!). Teachers and coaches are prepared to be involved in the success of their students and athletes and put in countless hours not only in the classroom, but in hands on work with extracurriculars. The student body is family-like, personal, Christ-centered. The atmosphere is studious, joyful, caring. Students who take full advantage of the course offerings leave beyond prepared for their first year of high school, most having enough credits to be considered at least a 2nd semester freshman in college (some enter college as technical sophomores). Christ is central. Tuition is incredibly affordable as a sticker price, even moreso when you consider the level of financial aid available. It's small. But it's personal and your student will be nurtured.

I asked when these were purchased if there was an expiration date and was told there wasn't. There is no expiration date written on the passes either. I still have most of these passes in my possession. I went to use one last week and I was denied entry. The explanation that was provided to me was 1. We stopped accepting these over a year ago 2. We sent emails out to let people know a long time ago that we wouldn't be accepting them any longer (I'm not on their email list) 3. We can't tell if people are photocopying and faking these passes or not. (Wow, I feel like I'm being accused of forging $5 passes so I can sneak into the gym?, really?). What bothers me far more than the lost $100 or so in passes is the lack of empathy and understanding. The only reason I went to the gym last week was with a relative who is older (and a member) so I could help set them up with a workout routine in light of a recent medical diagnosis. They wouldn't even let me enter just this once without paying for a $10 day pass. I guess I'm sorry I didn't use these passes sooner? But no empathy and flexibility from the staff at Spring Lake Aquatic Center earns a thumbs down from me. I've spent almost my entire life (since I was two years old) living in and supporting the local tri-cities. Doesn't feel right for a local organization to take my money and deny the service I paid for.

Updated: February 2011…read more As an older, non-traditional student, Cooley was a perfect match for me because the school has many course options and scheduling possibilities. With multiple campuses, the resources and course offerings are vast. Plus there is a 2-year option in which you have the option to do three terms a year instead of the traditional two terms a year like 95% of all other law schools. I know many people say bad things about Cooley, but I have experienced nothing other than professionalism, excellent academic resources and a faculty the truly does care about each student. The faculty are there to help you succeed and if you fail, it's your own fault. There are numerous extra-curricular organizations, top-notch moot court and mock trial teams and excellent clinic opportunities. Personally, some courses are easier than others, but for my difficult courses, the professor, the Academic resource faculty and even the Dean of the school have assisted with helping me to get a grasp on topics that are tough for me. The school has a "working" court room that has actual Federal District court hearings a couple time a year. In Feb 2011, there are several big cases being heard in our courtroom with some of the top Federal judges presiding. This is no "mock trial" or "moot court"... this is the real deal! The final exams are tough! But hey, it wouldn't be law school if the exams were easy! Based on your personality, you have the choice of using your computer to type the exam or you can go the "old school" way and write in a Blue Book. The grading is very fair. In fact it takes most Profs upwards of 6 weeks to grade the exams. They use a scoring "rubric" to accurately grade each exam on a non-biased approach. If you aren't familiar with what a rubric is, in short it's an outline which attaches a point value to each item you must mention/describe. All exams are 100% anonymous, so the Profs cannot give you a better (or worse) grade based on if they like you or not. Depending on the state in which you plan on practicing, Cooley will help make sure that you take the appropriate courses so you can do well on the bar. For those students that are worried about the bar, there are optional classes you can take in order to prepare you for the multi-state bar exam. FYI, approx. 94% of the Grand Rapids graduating class passed the Bar Exam last summer... Not too shabby! As I continue with my education, I'll keep updating this profile. For those of you considering Cooley, don't read too much into all the "Nay-sayers" out there... they are only looking for a way to justify their spending an additional $50K on their education! Ohhh.. just in case you are wondering, I'm a 2nd term, full-time student and plan on graduating in December 2012. UPDATE DECEMBER 2011 I've become extremely upset (as have 85% of the students) that most of our classes are now evening or weekend classes. This is not what the majority of us signed up for! I'm a full time, 3L student and I have ZERO day-time classes! Seems like Cooley has turned to a nights and weekends program. Students that have children at home are extremely frustrated that they can't take classes now during the day while kids are in school. I know it's bad too because even two professors even commented to me that it seems like all classes are now scheduled in the night. If I wasn't finishing up at Cooley in the next 7-8 months, I'd consider transferring.

If it wasn't for the tech program and the amazing guidance from Kelli I wouldn't have continued the program, while you're in her class she does what she can to help you understand and exceed in everything you learn. The Instructors in the adult program are just as amazing, they strive for your success and give you every opportunity to do the best you can and get to every goal you have! I explained that I've had gel manicures and pedicures done for years at both salons and schools with full soaking included, but told them I was still willing to proceed. Instead of simply scheduling the service, an instructor was brought over who immediately seemed defensive and confrontational. She insisted that soaking nails before gel polish was not allowed in Michigan and gave questionable explanations about bacteria. She then refused to do my pedicure because I was wearing an aircast for a sprained ankle, despite the fact that it could easily be removed and I had no mobility issues. As a registered nurse, I understand my own limitations. The interaction became increasingly uncomfortable, so I chose to leave. I then went to The Salon Professional Academy, where I was treated professionally and respectfully. They provided a full manicure and pedicure, soaked my nails as part of the service, and completed everything without confrontation or unnecessary drama.
