My 81 year old mother called Grand Bend Sanitation to pump out our septic system at our summer cottage. Prior to their arrival she spent about 8 hours digging out the two lids to the tanks because it had been four years since the last pumping and they were covered with dirt, sand, and roots. It was a tough job for her!! (Did I mention she is 81?)
They came out to pump the tanks. The lids were extremely difficult to remove. They finally got them off, but told my mom that to make it easier in the future they were going to modify the lids. They cut a hole in each lid and then placed a large patio stone over each lid where the hole was.
After pumping out the two tanks, the truck was so heavy that the driver was not able to get back up the hill (the road by the cottage is on a hill). He eventually had to call a tow truck to get him out.
Grand Bend Sanitation stopped by a few days later to collect on the invoice. In addition to the $450 to pump out the tank they charged my mom about $250 to modify the septic tank covers and also charged her about $200 for the tow truck, so a total of almost $1000 to pump out our septic system! First of all they never mentioned they were going to CHARGE her for the modification to the lids. This should have been disclosed ahead of time. As far as the tow, the driver should have known whether or not he could get back up the hill once he had pumped out the tanks. If he had any question about it he should not have driven down the hill in the first place. It is the driver's responsibility for his equipment, not the customer!
This is horrible to take advantage of a senior citizen in this way!!!
This company has terrible ethics and poor business practices!!! read more
