New local Miami hack unlocked - Go to Big Daddy's for their coffee!…read more Usually, I would go to Big Daddy's to just buy liquor. But, me and my friend decided to try and chill after running around doing errands before the New Year. We decided to try and sit down and get their Cafe con Leche. The store has a designated section to sit down. The table was really cool because it had an old map of the Florida Keys. The coffee was also really good and it definitely gave me the burst of energy for our party that night. The cashier who took care of us and made our coffee was very nice. He made sure we had the right sweetness to our drinks. This is a good place to get that much needed cafecito break. Other than that, the prices of the store for alcohol is really good. They have a nice selection of Florida and Miami local wines, spirits and beers to choose from. They also have deals with brand favorites as well. I personally, could get lost in the store!

However, this last Sunday during big game weekend I finally stopped. I was going to a friend's house for a watch party and needed to pick up food and liquor in one rideshare swoop. The layout is very spacious and basic - all of the perimeter walls are stacked floor to ceiling with liquor, including some way above eye level. The selection runs the gamut from the nice stuff you'd get as a birthday gift (they also sell gift bags), to that for everyday drinking to liquors with funny labels to bring in for sips and laughs at a potluck. Huge thanks to the employee for his recommendation on a roscato with such a label :)

Let's get this party started!…read more Welcome to your local Cuban bodega of nothing but booze, booze, and did I mention booze? Note this location is one of two. There's another one in dear ol' Miami Lakes. Anyway, this store opened up around a year ago and I always meant to go but never did. Finally I had the chance, or rather the occasion, to do so. Stepped in and was greeted by a large Christmas tree. What can I say? It was the holiday season! Perused the different types of alcohol and got my tried and true Maker's Mark. Purchased ice as well for the party. They have a large machine keeping it cool outside. Oh, and they have a drive-thru which is convenient for when you know what you want and don't want to get out of your car. Staff is pleasant and helpful, and of course, predominately speaking Spanish. Then again, this is Hialeah. What more can you expect?

We were able to taste several wines from a variety of regions throughout Italy; some with light pairings, so that we might fully experience the individuality of the selections. Our hosts were beyond knowledgeable and even provided attendees with an opportunity to take notes on each of the wines we were exploring during the evening. At the end of the evening, prices were shared with those at the event -- which were surprisingly reasonable. No pressure to make purchases; just a fantastic evening with great individuals and wine connoisseurs. We will definitely be back.

Walking out with a package of Buffalo Mozarella and bottle of Prosecco....which even got me in the kitchen this morning as I incorporated some of the mozarella cheese into a caprese salad with prosciutto I had. Light yet creamy in taste it provided a great balance to the sweets I usually have for brunch. I'm saving my prosecco bottle for full moon night tonight! Oh and one more thing, Stefano was nice enough to give me some tissues as the low 70s Miami frozen tundra cold weather caused me some sniffling :)
