As long as as it was place in my face, the pinxto was in my mouth. That said, everything thing I ate was absolutely delicious. For the concept of the restaurant, I was a bit surprised that the inside and outdoor areas were pretty empty. However, that could have been due to our late afternoon arrival to the restaurant. I do not recall seeing too many folks out and about in general. However (part two), the lack of folks worked out well for our party of seven. Hopefully, I can make another trip to El Huevo Frito during another visit to Bilboa.

It wasnt overly crowded (like other bars we passed) but the lady said they were closing in 10 minutes. Fortunately we met an American. She was visiting her friend, who lives here. They were a huge help! We ordered a few pinxtos and the lady offered to heat them up and we ate at the bar. We got 2 beers too, which we learned we could take to go. Open containers allowed, while walking around the city! And tipping is not expected. The pinxtos were ok.... but I imagine they would taste better fresh versus when we ate them, just before they closed. This pinxto bar is known for putting fried quail eggs on their pinxtos. We had a croquette, one with fried cheese and two with ham on them. They were all tasty and made my hanger go away. One of the 2 women behind the bar spoke English. We had no issues ordering (u can also order them to go). Would come back and try their food and drinks again, for sure! The bars/restaurants are small (compared to American standards)... so be prepared to squeeze and be intimate with others at the bar, when ordering. This was our first eating experience in Bilbao. Looking forward to exploring more tomorrow! This is my fiancee. He looks like he could be from here, so people come up to him and start talking Spanish..... but then they are surprised when he opens up his mouth and hears his very American and West Virginian accent.

The combination of the egg and wagyu is such a deliciously meaty combination. And of course there's the cochinillo. The crispy skin, succulent meat will make your mouth water and hungry for more. It comes in 2,3 and 4 person portion (starting from €30). Service: the staff is warm and attentive. Although he cannot really converse with us in English, he does his best to explain the menu to us and has the friendliest demeanor. In fact he gave us appetizers on the house in light of Xmas (lkr?)! This is a textbook hidden-gem in Bilbao. Do be sure to hit up this place for a Spanish meal you will never forget!!!

Pintxo bar experience…read more When walking into a busy pintxo bar, the recommended strategy is to find a stool at the bar and try whatever takes your fancy that's within reach, but do leave some room for the next stop! Sorginzulo is located in one of the corners of Plaza Nueva in Bilbao and is very small. Calamari is their specialty, but it is only served during the weekends. If you are there during the week, no worries! Almost every item is delicious! There were six in our group and all six ordered a couple of pinxos each. No one complained!

I didn't notice any taste difference but black bread that's not pumpernickel? Very different. The fresh fried calamari sandwich with a spicy mayo aioli was amazing. A truly excellent pinxtos. We also enjoyed a bottle of Basque cidre that contrasts well with the fried seafood. Tip: This is where you'll find "the frog" if you're on a scavenger hunt.
