    Outdoor dining area

At this hostel there are many interesting nooks and crannies... like this outdoor seating area where we just ate lunch (plan-overs from Sunday's Cracker Barrell Cafe dinner). Quite charming!

Ok so I have to start with a quick little response to the super negative review below who was very concerned with safety. Yes, the neighborhood is a little sketch but it's YBOR! The whole place is sketchy, that's the fun of it... But the hostel is NOT unsafe in any way, there are security cameras all over the premises inside and out, the property is extremely secure. Now for my review: This is THE BEST hostel I have EVER visited. This place is a dream! The decor is a cluttered collection, a vast array of junk treasure that will have your eyes wandering constantly. My sister and I stayed for 3 days and 2 nights and couldn't have had a better time. The staff and owners were EXTREMELY accommodating and super fun to hang out with. We went to tampa/ybor/st pete for the specific purpose of going to a concert and planned on staying for a little extra time to go out a couple nights to bars/clubs close by, but this place was so fun and the people were so chill that we actually preferred to stay there and party instead. Met some great people and some cool travelers. This is the PERFECT place for anyone who has a case of wanderlust. I will definitely be back soon!!

FUNNN!!! Oh yes..... you have to see it before believing it.... When driving up here, I must admit: I felt a bit unsafe. I can't imagine this is one of Tampa's best neighbourhoods, so to speak. So I wasn't really sure what to expect... I had read beautiful reviews about this place, but while we were looking for it, meeeeeeh let's just say: ignore the surroundings and just go for it. It. Will. Get. Better! Gram's Place is basically a hippie playground; it's a 'compound' filled with all sorts of kitschy knick-knacks form around the world, the atmosphere is uber-relaxed, the people that stayed there are mostly young travelers / backpackers and no worries: it's not a hostel that you have to share bunk beds with a whole group (only if you want to), but they have 'private rooms' as well. To be fair, that's a bit more up my alley.... We arrived quite late; Bruce (the owner) opened the door and is such a cool, genuinely nice host! And it felt I stepped into a musical Wonderland; the place is dedicated to the late singer/songwriter Gram Parsons, so the whole atmosphere & all the rooms just breath 'music'; the rooms are musically themed (we stayed in the 'Jazz Room') and all the surroundings are just covered with musical instruments, sheets of music, CD / LP covers and what not. We did some shopping at a local grocery store and used the BBQ; oh yes... there's a great BBQ at one of the patio's for everyone to use as they please! So I stood there, in the warm weather with a can of Miller's, baking my burgers & sausages and I felt like such a Bohemian traveller! Yes, to be fair, I gave it 5 stars as the service was great, the room was tidy & clean, we had our own little bathroom, the atmosphere was just brilliant and totally unexpected. I do realize, this is perhaps not for everyone.... if you're into posh hotels, this is not your thing. If you're up for uber privacy, then perhaps you need to stay in your room. If you're creeped out by the thought that you share a kitchen & you need to do your own dishes afterwards, this is not the place for you. For me, I saw the beauty of it and I loved staying here. It's nothing I have ever seen before and I find it truly unique; it's very low key, it's a tad kitschy, you can definitely play hide & seek everywhere or stand on the roof. They wouldn't mind, it's the traveller's way!

Awesome hostel!!! Great people and vibe, friendly and helpful management :). Clean sheets, quirky and colorful decor, organized, breakfast included (peanut butter and jam sandwiches- jelly if you're American, eggs and cawfee) Definitely worth the cheap price and more

We found the room at the Marriott to be spacious, and the bathrooms similar to the JW. We found that compared to JW, the Marriott lobby was bigger, with more lounging and work station areas but also more people and noisy/lively. It has an outdoor restaurant overlooking the river, as well as a high end Mexican restaurant LONA (which I highly recommend) which provided great food and an escape from the crowds when you sit at their bar/lounge area. The outdoor restaurant/bar also had live entertainment during happy hour. What I particularly like about these 2 properties is that you can enjoy the amenities of both location by just walking accross the street via the skybridge. We went to Driftlight Steakhouse at JW in the morning for breakfast and had the buffet. The food was wonderful, service even better. We found check in to be very easy, especially since there was a dedicated reservation desk for Marriott Platinum Elite and such. It was good to have since the day we were there there was a conference/event happening that weekend. The only disappointment is the Perk Coffee and Provisions shop near the reception area, which was WAY overpriced and service slow and unfriendly. For most of their items on the shelves there was NO price. You had to ask what the price for each of the items, ranging from water to the alcohol. In summary, a very good stay at the Tampa Marriott Water street. Good alternative to JW based on the price. Also, in the future would book a balcony room with water views.

We were excited to discover that the hotel is just a short walk away from one of our favorite beaches, Upham beach, which made the trip even more special. The property had a fun South Beach feel with plenty of seating to socialize, a cute pool with bright flamingo floats, a hot tub, and a great outdoor pool bar. Natalia was a great bartender, she was friendly and gave the most awesome recommendations off the menu. She did not miss a beat! Randy was a fantastic host. He was in communication via text as soon as the room was ready and greeted us immediately as we arrived on the property which does not require you to check in as they send you your room number and code to get in. Unfortunately, the noise level significantly impacted our stay. We were in Room 28, and directly behind the room is a hallway used by staff from the upstairs bar. Throughout the first night, we heard a heavy door repeatedly slamming and staff using rolling carts to transport trash. The noise continued until about 3:00 a.m., making it very difficult to sleep. The next morning, I expressed my concerns to the front desk. He was polite, apologized, and said he would pass the information along. However, the noise resumed again the following night. Around 11:30 p.m., I stepped into the hallway and observed someone pulling trash on one of the carts; they did not appear interested in engaging when I tried to address it. Closer to midnight, after another loud door slam, I spoke with a different staff member who was very receptive and respectful. After that conversation, the noise level did decrease. I understand that hotel operations continue behind the scenes, but for a property positioned as an upscale boutique experience, I would expect better late-night noise control -- especially in rooms directly adjacent to service areas. The hotel has a lot of potential, and the cleanliness was excellent. However, due to the repeated overnight noise disruption, I would be hesitant to stay in that location of the property again.

The location is close to a number of restaurants and bars including CW's Gin Joint that is five minutes walking. The art museum is also nearby in addition to a couple of Starbucks. I wouldn't recommend walking down to the hockey center which is about 20 minutes walking at least and goes under the Selmon Expressway overpass. Some of the areas in downtown can be sketch so you will need to Uber if you don't plan on driving and parking. Parking, speaking of which, will be expensive whether you are valeting at $45 a night or park in one of the garages nearby. Some I think are $15-20 a day but depends on the garage. The valet at least are fast with getting your car. Overall, the staff was friendly and courteous. Our check in went quickly to grab our keys and direct us to our room that was on the first floor. Housekeeping was friendly and prompt as well. The room was easily accessible from the lobby and close to the pool area. Our bed was comfortable with a fridge, plenty of drawer and shelf space in the closet. Our room had some modern artwork as well. The bathroom was spacious and the water pressure was solid. Although it took a minute to figure out how to adjust the water temperature without scalding yourself. They have a fitness center but it's up on the top floor and can be a challenge to find at first if you don't know where you're going. The signage helps a bit. It's in this spooky hallway where the court reporters were located and juries deliberated. You wonder if there were any unexplained or brutal murders that took place but I didn't feel any haunted presences nor are any brought up as an attraction. So probably not. But the gym's amenities are solid between the cardio machines and the weights available. Towels are available and a water cooler. They have a restaurant and bar that serves all three meals as well as ice cream and coffee. I only stopped there for an extra dirty, which was ok but could have been dirtier. I would stay here again.
