Stopped by for an early dinner and I was ecstatic that there was no one there so I could get my Pastie right away. As you walk in you'll see a giant board that shows how far and wide people come from to try these pasties. The furtherest I was London. They have a huge menu that's hard to miss and tell you exactly what's hot and ready. I had the Rutabaga one and I've never had one before, which to my surprise I ended up really liking. My husband and I each had a frozen veggie pastie that we took back to our airbnb to heat up. We shared an apple strawberry snail for dessert. We had a nice time at Grams. The pasties came in many different flavors. I got the veggie one and it was pretty good, my friends got the jalapeno beef ones which were apparently spicy and a little lacking in flavor. I also got the scotcheroo, and that was very yummy! Delicious hot pasties. It's a very small place and by 4 pm only a couple of flavors were left hot. but there were more choices if you wanted frozen. We had the very traditional beef w rutabaga and carrot, and a side of gravy. It was wrapped in paper and just as expected and piping hot. The drive-through was crazy busy with cars lined up. I decided to try another joint to see how their pasties differed from others. Their version was round - almost like a pie. I went with Beef, Rutabaga and Carrots with side order of coleslaw. Their pasty had more flavor then the other place. This place also offered many varieties of pasties, including breakfast version, ham & Cheese, Philly Cheese steak, etc - anything they can stuff the pasty with, it seems like they do it here. They're ok. If you know what pasties are, you already know what to expect. If you've never tried them, you should. They're not very flavorful, they're similar to an empanada or similar to a calzone but not with as much flavor. I found them to be overpriced bur maybe that's normal for the area and with prices going up on everything. En español: se me hicieron bastante caras. This was our first experience eating a Pasty and I'm so glad that we waited. The ladies working there were the best! I learned that I've been pronouncing it wrong my whole life and even got a joke out of it. My husband and I both got the breakfast Pasty which was delicious. The woman at the counter was in the kitchen a lot. We had to ask (almost yell) for service - and so did everyone that came in. She was less than cordial. When we asked for a vegetarian option she said "No." and we had to point out that it was on the menu for the day. I don't think she knew how to smile. I am not a pasty eater, as I don't live in the area where they are available. I had one once when I was much younger, and remembered it as yummy. This one wasn't too yummy. Kind of dry. It was seasoned well, had a great wrap/crust, and was PIPING hot! Unfortunately they were out of the vegetable ones so the S/O was unable to try anything as their menu is NOT vegetarian friendly. The cashier was pretty huffy puffy that we even dared to ask such a thing! Nbd though. It IS the UP! Very small establishment but has outdoor seating and a drive thru. The place is named Grams. I just feel sorry for whoever's gram feeds them mainly potatoes. First time pastie eater, and that'll be my lastie pastie. 85% potato and yet it's $6. I got a beef pastie and my boyfriend got a beef, rutabaga, and carrot pastie. We skipped breakfast on our last stretch of the 42 mile backpacking trip at Pictured Rocks just so we could have room for a pastie. Wish I ate my oatmeal... I would give it 2 stars, if that. These are good pasties, but they have to be better to deserve more stars for a shop in the Upper Peninsula. Either way, Gram's is worth a stop on the Pasty Trail because it's the best in the surrounding area. The main issue with these is the crust, which is mediocre... too dry, too chewy. It gets a few stars because it does taste good overall, so there's really no complaining. But if you want the best pasty in the U.P. stop elsewhere. Also, U.P. pasty shops that sell stuff like sloppy joe's and hot dogs is another minus. We come for the pasties! read more

Coming from the land of the trolls, the original, authentic pasties we find around home are dry and nothing like the ones we had at Gram's Pasties. I was almost ready to write them off if that was how authentic pasties were. Fortunately, we stopped in on our way through Escanaba and back across the bridge and learned what pasties should be. We ordered a chicken and a beef pasty and sat down for a short wait as they had just opened and the fresh batch of pasties were almost ready to come out. It was worth the wait. It is a small place (some would say cozy but we don't know them that well, yet!) and the staff treated us first timers like we had been regulars. First off, the customer service was not great. We went in right before they closed, which we didn't realize until she locked the door right behind us. We are from out of town, and she wasn't very good at answering our questions. Once we got our pasties, they were luke warm. The meat inside didn't look like beef and they most likely had been sitting there all day. It is now 6 A.M, and i've been throwing up for a few hours. Had to stop for a traditional pasty on the way home, and Gram's delivered! Filling, flavorful, no ketchup needed. We tried the traditional beef, rutabaga, and carrot in store, and took home frozen Cheesy Chicken Broccoli. I was hesitant on the latter, fearing a heavy, overly cheesy filling, but went with the staff recc - I was not disappointed. We are in the seating area, and had prompt, friendly service. The pastry on the pasties were light, and the ingredients inside are packed in tightly, and hold together nicely while holding your pasty. Seasoned just right, and definitely delicious!!!
