ARS Roofing & Gutters

ARS Roofing & Gutters

(143 reviews)

We hadn't had our roof checked recently, so it was time to do it. The two men who came worked for…read moretwo hours and the price was still the same as the price quoted. We thought we had a detached gutter, but in fact we had a plugged up drain. When it rained it didn't much of a storm to fill the drain up. The gutter wasn't detached, the water from our roof was the drain overflowing. ARS then recommended a plumber we could trust to unplug the clogged drain. (It was clogged with the roots of a bush growing near it.) We definitely recommend this company!

Maybe not this company's fault, but I let my HOA Silverview Terrace, Invoice 25248) know that my…read morechimney was leaking, so they had ARS come take a look because they're contracted to do the association's roofs. I didn't realize that chimney repairs weren't covered under the HOA, so when the ARS employees came and noticed an exposed opening at the top of the room, they repaired it with some stucco, which was about 2-3 hrs of work. My HOA then told me I was billed for around $1,000. I was shocked that the small exposed area costed so much, and it was also then that our HOA manager told us it was our responsibility to pay. Had I known this before, I would have tried to repair it with contractors elsewhere. I'm not saying they did a bad job, I just had no idea a roughly 1ftx1ft area of repair was going to be $1,000, and that we had to cover it. It was my ignorance as the HOA manager then pulled up the HOA handbook to say that only roofing , and not chimney repairs, were covered. I felt pretty stupid, but I figured (again my ignorance) that if my HOA elected to assist in scheduling ARS to come take a look, that it would at least be partially paid for. I tried to at least ask my HOA manager to reach out to ARS to get an itemized bill to detail what exactly costed $1,000 for the few hrs of work, and they agreed, but I never heard back from them. Next thing I know, I see the $1,000 cost added to my monthly HOA fees, with a $20 late fee added on top of it. Like I said, at the end of the day it was probably my fault, and I will make sure what the HOA covers next time. I just wish my HOA manager actually followed through on my request before simply adding the bill to my monthly fees. They said they would be talking to ARS the day they agreed too. I assume they probably thought I was being unreasonable. I'm honestly not the kind of person to complain or write these kinds of reviews, but I guess I'll just be more aware next time. It's better to not authorize people to work on your house when it is through the HOA. The fees increase almost every year, but people in HOAs just have to realize the policies and not necessarily believe the HOA is looking out for your best interest financially. Just how things go I suppose.

APG Electric - Original Zinsco panel needs to be upgraded / changed out.

APG Electric

APG came highly recommended from another electrician I'd known and they were up to the task! They were honest, fair, and always on time. It's getting harder and harder to find reliable contractors in the trades and APG is a shining star. Clean, professional work at honest prices, by people you can trust. Would highly recommend!

I was quoted a $790 permit fee by George from APG Electric. He claimed that the fee covered logistics, site schematics, and electric plans. He mentioned that if I want to cut cost, we could explore pulling the permit myself. Wanting to explore that option- I did my homework and learned that in addition to the $178 permit fee I also need some techinical paperwork to submit. I asked George about possibly getting the technical paperwork from them; he declined. He also mentioned that I am probably better off working with a different installer. Before I even had the chance to respond or discuss further, I got a notification from Qmerit telling me my project has been reassigned. I find this extremely unprofessional. I was simply exploring reasonable ways to lower my cost- something that George himself suggested. Instead of working with me, APG Electric backed out without a warning, leaving me to start over. I added a couple of more stars to acknowledge the effort George put into the project (i.e. load calculations), which didn't go unnoticed; I do believe George approached the work with good intent. I could not bring myself to go above 3 stars as the delay on my project (due to reassignment initiated by APG Electric) has caused quite a bit of added stress. TL;DR: APG Electric assessed my EV charger install through Qmerit and quoted a $790 permit fee. When I explored pulling the permit myself to save money (as they suggested), they reassigned my project without notice. Totally unprofessional and dismissive.

Solaris Construction - Interior framing of open kitchen

I hired Solaris construction to do a large landscaping project at my property. From the bid process…read moreto the construction and completion, Brent, Will and his team were consummate professionals and a true pleasure to work with. Starting with the Bid process. I contacted Solaris via email from their website contact details and gave them all the relevant details of our job. Within a week we had a face to face meeting to discuss the details of the job and to find out more about their crew and their experience. The guys went out of their way to accommodate our schedule, meeting with us in the evening hours after the kiddies went to bed. They took notes, discussed options, and generally were polite and well spoken, even offering to take their shoes off before coming into our house to sit down when they saw shoes at the door! About a week later the bid came in. It was clear they had paid attention to my requests during the initial meeting, structured the bid in a way where it was easy for me to see where the money was going. They also offered up suggestions on how we could save money by making modifications to our plan. They provided copies of their insurance and contractors license and I independently checked it all out and they were on the up and up. We decided to move forward with a contract. Brent provided a start date to us based on their schedule and we were set. When our start date finally came they started the job on time. I was impressed with the caliber of their crew, these are real professionals. The same guys who were there on day one was the same crew we had throughout the job, no fly by night day laborer's for this construction company. Every single member of their crew was clean cut, well spoken, polite, and generally gave us alot of confidence in having them around the house doing work. Speaking of the crew, these guys work *hard* and clearly pay attention to detail. Will was the lead on my project and him and his crew completed the following for us: Demo/Prep of the site Grading Just a ton of trenching Installation of a complete irrigation system Adding dedicated power circuits for the yard Adding low voltage power for lighting An in ground trampoline! A reinforced treated wood retaining wall A new lawn from sod (w/ sprinklers) A set of raised beds Decomposed granite pathways "Boulder" stairs for a grade change Mortared fieldstone retaining walls (beautiful, really) Custom hose bibs routed into wood posts (they look awesome!) I have a huge list of work I still want to do, and I'm not even going to bother getting it bid out when I'm ready. I know who I'm calling, Solaris Construction. In short. If Solaris construction isn't on your list of contractors to consider for your landscape, home improvement, or other major construction job, you're doing something wrong.

The only one to come all the way through was Brent, who met with our structural engineer to go over the plans before offering a bid. Solaris was on time, went over and above the work required to make sure our deck was able to handle a hot tub and was communicative and dependable.
