Just showed up to Grace to drop off 6 shirts to be laundered. I've been a beyond loyal customer for well over 5 years and I drop off my shirts weekly, but today will be my last day ever. There was a new person at the desk. When I asked for my shirts to be laundered (as they always were), he pointed to one and said that it had to be dry cleaned. He then tells me that it would be Monday before I can get them back. He then hands me a ticket for 3x the price I normally pay while mumbling something about the price being too cheap. Seems like this place is having issues (perhaps financial) and this person was there to overcharge loyal customers to make up for the gap. To be clear, here are my issues: 1. An attempt was made to overcharge me. 2. I was asked to pay upfront for the over charge, which indicates distrust And potential racism. 3. This individual did not care that I was a regular and that I was able to quote the prices that I normally pay. We really have to stop letting business come into neighborhoods and taking advantage of residents. I will never be back and caution everyone else to triple check your bill. SCAM!DES TROYED SHIRT They destroyed my shirt and the color of the shirt is no longer close to the original shirt color. First of all, they charged a shirt for more than 5$ please see the photo. I was surprised and the casher guy said its drying cleaning, which says on the receipt (see the photo). I said I didnt ask for dry clean but I didnt say anything when I brought in but left the shirt for clean. So I paid for the full price. I open my shirt the color is completed faded (its an expensive shirt from the Brand you can tell) and I went in and the OWNER of the business was there and he said it NOT DRY CLEANING. They dry clean, launder shirts, wash and fold, and tailor. They do shoes, coats, dresses, and the like. If you get your stuff there before 9am they can do same day. They're very friendly and professional. Their prices are reasonable (prices could always be cheaper but its in the hear of Harlem, they gotta eat and pay bills too). Nice people but not reliable. The first time I took my clothes to them, they didn't deliver them. I had to go and convince them that they still had them and point them out on their rack. Awesomeness! Was bummed out about getting froyo and ketchup all on the side of my new coat (Can you say 'glutton'?), so after price-checking with a nearby cleaner I gave in and came here. "Fri" Um... I need it sooner. "How bout Thursday?" OK! How much? $13.50 Will you clean the belt too? Yup. SWEET! So not only was my coat done for $12.60 (discount for paying upfront/cash?), it was $3.40 cheaper than the other place, negotiated with my coat arrival time, had it looking brand-new when I arrived, and had a cool Asian guy working the counter! First negative review I've posted. While they may have a decent reputation I unfortunately had one of my garments(button down) ruined after I dropped it off to be dry cleaned. Story goes as followed: I drop off about 8 shirts and two pants for a grand total of 60 dollars and some change...I think to myself wow 4.75 per shirt is pricy for the neighborhood but hey, I'm in a pinch. When I pickup everything they inform me that one shirt was not dry cleaned because it was torn. I explained that I did not tear the sleeve and asked what their policy is about damaged good. They stated they didn't damage it so the policy doesn't apply. We went back and forth and they wouldn't budge. As I prepaid, silly me, I could not do anything about it except ask for the 4.75 back for the now unwearable shirt. While this could be a rarity for them it was my first time using them so for me they have not only poor service but a dishonest practice 100% of the time. Which is not a good win rate in my book when it comes to dry cleaners. I understand that mistakes happen, especially in this business, but at least own up to it. Additionally, from a business standpoint they have lost my service and money in the long run as I'll never use them-all they had to do is pay me the worth of the shirt that was damaged-20 dollars tops. This says to me that A) they may not be customer centered when things go array, B) they are cheap and short sighted and C) not very smart when it comes to running a business. As this neighborhood's landscape continues to morph it's likely they will lose their competitive edge they currently have which solely rest on the convenient location for some. read more

Grace Cleaners always has friendly service and they are good at what they do (in my experience). They give a discount for paying up front and one for using cash. It also helps that they are only 1 and a half blocks from my apartment, but I have never been disappointed using them. read more

Have to chime in here with a bad experience. They quoted me a price then changed the price as they were printing the receipt. They then forgot about my item and when I came back to pick it up, they promised to clean it and deliver it to my apartment within a week. Still now word. Not friendly either, which isn't something I necessarily expect from a dry cleaner, but I don't understand the good reviews. I'm a man with an easily identifiable Hispanic middle and surname. I have always been treated with dignity and respect by these folks. The first time I ever interacted with them, they picked up my laundry, did it to my specs, and delivered the next day for me. Without question. I paid with my debit card over the phone after the fact. I am allergic to most laundry detergents and I have an odor sensitivity which makes it impossible for me to breath. So I use plain old tide detergent or whole foods detergent when I do my own laundry. Their hypoallergenic detergent is perfect for me, and they do my laundry without using fabric softener,which also works for me. Over the years, they have patched my clothes inexpensively, hemmed my suits, altered my pants, dry cleaned my suits, and sometimes when I've been unable to pick up my clothes because I have been out of town for a few weeks, they have politely grabbed my stuff for me when I came back into town and never once complained about how long it was there. In my 4 years of using this company, I have not one complaint...which is unusual for an NYC company. read more

The customer service is fine. They have a young staff and they speak fluent English and the greet well. I have used their services twice: some button down shirts, a coat and a blazer. The colors are not as bright and the cut looks different. As if they had ironed with just one eye open. They must use some pretty bad PERC (the chemical used to dry clean). Tried them out twice thinking the first disaster was a fluke. Couple of months ago, I got back my wash&fold and half the clothes weren't mine; needless to say, i lost half of my clothes that i sent out.. survived. Last week tried to do the same day, which they promptly picked up in the am, but never heard from them. i told them someone was home all day and to call when it was ready. then they yelled at my wife when she called to find out why they hadn't delivered our laundry that evening and still charged the same-day rate when they dropped it off the next day. It seems like they have a process, but customers (especially new) cant possibly know what how things work if you don't communicate it. Easier to find another option. read more

I dropped off a load of wash and fold and a couple of shirts on a Thursday. The washing is $1/lb which seems reasonable with a minimum of $10. The shirts are just under $2 a shirt. Again fine. The chap there was very nice, we chatted for a bit, I asked for the clothes to be delivered and said I had a doorman who could receive them I was told the washing would be delivered back to my apartment on Friday and the shirts on Monday. That was fine. Friday-Monday. No clothes, no contact. I call on Tuesday and ask where my clothes are. The guy (different from the previous one) says that they were only ready yesterday (Monday) so I'll receive them today (Tuesday. I ask why the washing wasn't ready on Friday. He says that they were only ready yesterday and that they didn't think I had a doorman so wouldn't deliver it. I said "I told you I had a doorman, but I just want to know why the clothes are four days late"? He said "we didn't think you had a doorman and we expected you to call" So a) he lied (the rubbish about doormen) and b) he just decided to delay the service. I went over to pick them up an hour later - they hadn't been put out to delivery and a perfectly nice woman hands them over to me with a smile. If anyone apologised or explained it better or just told me at the beginning that it would take a few more days, I would have been fine. As it is, I consider this to be terrible service. Not going back. Clothes were washed fine, nothing to complain about. Shirts weren't pressed very well, I could have done a better job. read more

Matty B. (review written 07/07/2015) and I seemed to have had almost the same unfortunate experience with Grace Cleaner. And I have to agree with everything he said. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU LIKE YOUR CLOTHES! Since I moved to this neighborhood back in 2011, I have been using Grace Cleaners mainly because it's one the way to the 125th station. Matty B. is absolutely right that they do not take responsibility for their mistakes. They ruined my trench coat that just needed a regular dry cleaning job done to freshen it up for the season. It is a black trench coat and I have had it for a few years, one of the favorite pieces in my closet. I take very good care of my clothes, even though it was a few years old, it still looked nice. However, when I got it back from Grace Cleaner after what I thought was a regular dry cleaning job, it came completely scuffed, faded, stained, frayed on all the edges, and rigid. It looked like it was distressed for years. My black trench coat is now a grey trench coat that looks like it was put through hell. I took it back to them and asked them to do something about it because this is not how the coat looked like when I dropped it off. They made some excuse about talking to the "boss" and kept the coat with them for A MONTH, only to return it to me just as faded and abused. I took the coat to another neighborhood dry cleaner (Alpha Dry Cleaner) to get a second opinion on why dry cleaning would result in a ruined garment, I have dry cleaned this coat before and it was fine. The lady there examined it and confirmed that the coat was just washed in a machine in really hot water and then dried on really high temperature (who even knows what kind of awful detergent was used). The coat tag says Dry Clean Only, I made it really clear to them that the garment is for DRY CLEANING when dropping it off. They seemed to just ignore everything. The sole purpose of dry cleaning is to preserve the integrity of the fabric, but clearly they are not paying attention. It's not likely that they will pay for my damaged garment or replace it. I no longer trust them to do a decent job and there is no way in hell I would ever want to leave them with expensive/well cared garments. I will NOT be coming back to Grace Cleaner and I will let everyone in my building know about their awful services as well. It takes a lot to disappoint someone who has been going to the same business for five years, they managed to do just that. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

I use them for simple tailoring (we have a valet in the building from dry cleaning and laundry). They are good at tapering shirts, sleeves, hemming pants, replacing zippers, buttons, etc. For serious work on a suit, I would go to a more specialized tailor. They work quickly, and deliver the garment back to my building no problem. It is the west village, so it is not cheap, but I don't think they are outrageous. read more

Today I brought in a dress I want to wear tonight, NYE (the zipper broke this morning) but there were no tailors at the store. The man at the desk called their other locations until he got a tailor on the line. Grace is sending my dress over and I will have the zipper repaired by 5PM today! Harlemites, beware: The only thing consistent about Grace Cleaners is their failure to do anything related to dry-cleaning well. I used to send my clothes here twice a month, overlooking how often they were late in delivering my clothes (sometimes I had to call two or three times to find out where my items were), delivery of the wrong clothes, the misshapen hook, or broken button. They're convenient and generally nice people. Then I found another place, that did a better job for the same price, and happily sent my clothes there, with much better and reliable results. I was able to avoid Grace Cleaners for over two years, until recent schedule changes have me passing by Grace Cleaners again and dry-cleaning that needs to get done. I went back after a two year hiatus, hoping business would have improved. Sadly, I was proved wrong on the first try. I dropped off several items on a Monday, was told they could be delivered on Thursday (which is lengthy for most dry-cleaners), and had to call on Thursday evening when my clothes didn't arrive. They were delivered on Friday, mostly fine, save a missing pair of beautiful silk DVF pants, their absence I didn't discover until a few days after. I went on Tuesday to ask for my pants back and when they were finally delivered, the deep cobalt blue of the silk had been diminished to literally a faded, acid-washed denim color. Sorry, but the normcore look just isn't my thing. I am so disappointed and angry at myself for going back to this place - find a better place, like Legacy Cleaners on Lenox! read more

Wish Yelp would allow the option to rate zero stars. I came to Grace Cleaners out of convenience to hem a pair of expensive flare jeans. I've never hemmed a pair of jeans there, but also didn't think it would be a gamble as hemming is the simplest alteration. I dropped off my jeans Saturday and smoothly explained to sewer how much shorter I wanted. I went into the store Monday night to pick up. Because I work in fashion and see alteration and construction successes/fails on daily basis I know what a reasonable result should look. When I saw how poorly and wavy the top stitch on the hem looked, I was taken back. I asked if they could improve, they said yes. However, I didn't want to try again and weaken the fabric (needles used for top stitching denim is always thicker than normal sewing needles) if they didn't think it could be improved; after telling this to the cashier, he grabbed the manager and told him to deal with the situation. Fine-I then re-explained the situation to the manager. He (without even looking at me while responding to me the whole time) told me along the lines of, just leave it, I will have the sewer carefully measure everything tomorrow and try again. However, I also requested to see other pairs of jeans laying around that they have hemmed just to see what the sewer's capabilities are. Manager gave many excuses why he couldn't pull a pair of jeans for me to see at that point. That's fine, I didn't want to argue too much but I also wasn't fully convinced. However, I was willing to give the place a second shot as the manager told me they can do better. On Tuesday night, I went back again to check on the re-do hemming job. It was not improved and I wanted an explanation on why it still looked wavy. He (without looking at me while responding again) initially tried to play off the fact that it looked okay and said that's the way it looks, if I'm still not happy the sewer can fix it again. I did not want to leave my pants at the cleaners for them to fix a third time if they couldn't show me a real hemming example of jeans they worked on with straight topstitch. Since it was a few minutes after closing manager said he can't find a pair of hemmed jeans because that would take at least 30 minutes to find. C'mon how can it take 30 minutes for the manager to find a pair of jeans??? Then he told me to come back in the morning and he will have it pulled out and if I wanted to, I can watch the sewer sew my jeans in person. I felt that request was completely unreasonable with anyone's working schedule and I should not have to monitor someone hemming a pair of my jeans! I suggested I can take my jeans home and when I have time I will bring it back to see what fixes can be made. He raised his voice and yelled at me that he can't let me take my jeans home and I have to leave it there overnight as he had to close this and another store soon. His other option for me was to pay for my jeans now, then bring back to get re-done a third time. If it can't be fixed third time, he would refund me. I said I didn't want to do that bc if I paid now, I can not force them to refund me since this was such a small establishment. I also clearly asked him multiple times after the first night that if the hem can't be improved, I don't want to try again at all. I was furious and did not want my expensive jeans to be ruined by a simple hemming. After more back and forth he yelled at me "So what do you want? Take it for free?" Me "yes, I can't pay for a poor hemming job like this" Manager "fine! Just take it!" Me "thank you" Manager "I FEEL BAD FOR YOU!" Me "......" I was so shocked he had the audacity to yell that at the store. In conclusion, Grace Cleaners can not hem pants straight. I would be cautious before bringing any more intensive alterations to them. Grace Cleaners recently destroyed a nearly $900 brand new microfiber and leather dress of mine and tried to give me a check for $400 while they consulted with the National Cleaners Association. Grace Cleaners told me that they had a leather "specialist" who would do a great job with my dress. Gave it to them in mid January 2013 and thought the dress was in the January delivery but it was not. I looked all over the place thinking that I had misplaced it and finally called them back. They told me they had the dress and were 'working on' cleaning it. Long story short, they went to the vendor and had them provide me with a new dress because they ended up destroying the one I gave them. DO NOT use Grace Cleaners! I am no longer a customer at Grace Cleaners and you should not be either after you read this review. I used them for many years and probably since the day they opened. I used them so often they kept my credit card on file for charges. The service and the quality of service has gone completely off the rails over the last two years. The most offensive aspect about Grace Cleaners is that they DO NOT stand behind their work and they will NOT be held RESPONSIBLE for DAMAGES to your garments. I brought a very delicate silk shirt in to be cleaned. It was completely destroyed and faded either by an iron or someone washing it in normal laundry. I immediately noticed the rigidness of the silk and faded blacks from the mistreatment of the fabric. This was a very expensive dress shirt and they knew it. So they hemmed and hawed about talking to the "boss" about it and it took over a month of back and forth for the manager Danny to tell me that they would not be responsible for replacing the item that I trusted them to clean and care. In addition to this grave offense Grace Cleaners has a habit of losing smaller items: socks, t-shirts, bras etx. Then NEVER showing up to drop your garments and laundry off when you have both requested and confirmed with them to do so within 30 minutes of calling. I repeat DO NOT use Grace Cleaners especially when there are so many other options now available from mobile delivery to better options right in this neighborhood. read more
