Charleston Gown Boutique Saved My Wedding!! I was in a pinch for a dress and left discouraged after another store lost my dress 2 months before my wedding. My mom called around to a few places and said she got a good feeling from GBC. The staff was so helpful from the moment I walked in, and had a glass of champagne ready for me. Alexis asked a few questions, and knew the dresses for me to try on. I walked out an hour and a half later with my dress in my hand! There were plenty of sample dresses for me to try on and take home that day but they ensured me that if I wanted to purchase a dress that wasn't a sample they would make it work. Planning a wedding is hard enough and Gown Boutique Charleston made finding my dream dress easy. The dressing room/try on area is perfect for family and wedding party if you are bringing them. I can't say enough good things about GBC! Jessica was the associate that helped me and she was so sweet and fun! The entire team was warm and extremely helpful. After visiting 3 Charleston stores, I can't stress enough how the team working at a bridal shop can really make or break the experience. I loved the energy and excitement at GBC - all of the ladies were extremely knowledgeable as well about different designers and customization options (they even gave me some tips that helped me save $100's on the the dress I ultimately bought). Jessica was never pushy either. At the end of my appointment, there was a dress that I loved but wasn't quite ready to say yes to. She told me to take some time, go to my last appointment elsewhere, and come back in the morning to see how I felt. Jessica truly went above and beyond and made time for us to come in before the store opened the next day (they were crazy busy with a sample sale that day so it felt like that much more of an extraordinary act of kindness)! Amazing. Simply amazing. Don't go anywhere else for your wedding dress - trust me!! I went in with absolutely no idea what sort of dress I wanted, and a fairly limiting budget. The staff helped me eliminate styles I didn't like, and figured out what I like. For a total novice regarding wedding dresses, GBC made this process SO MUCH FUN and so so SO simple. It was stress-free, exciting, and we found my dream dress by the fifth dress I tried on. I had no idea a dress as perfect as the one they found me existed. We made quite a few customizations to it; again, a process made very simple by the GBC staff. I could NOT recommend this place more; Janet and the girls made me feel like an absolute princess. I visited Gown Boutique of Charleston on a marathon dress shopping weekend. They were my last stop of the trip. What a wonderful experience! I was completely exhausted (my advice - don't schedule more than 2 appointments in one day, definitely not more than 3) but the staff there were comforting and accommodating. The salon itself is beautiful and they do have a very wide selection of gowns. My price range was $3,000-5,000 and I would say I was in the high end of their range. They had many dresses for me to look through, only a few were above that budget. The staff member I worked with, Jenna, was extremely knowledgeable not only of the gowns they carried in the store but of any upcoming trunk shows and new lines coming out. She made thoughtful suggestions and pulled dresses I never would have thought of on my own and ended up looking amazing! This is definitely one of the best in Charleston. Highly recommend! read more

Im writting this review mainly to commend the wonderful service I received from Jenna, a very nice, friendly, wonderful and helpful specialist who helped me enjoy the experience even though I hate shopping and trying things on. She was very patient, a great listener, and very accommodating. From the moment my mom and I walked into GBC I just new I was going to find my dress. I had seen an Essence of Australia gown that I really liked online and fortunately they had it. It was the first one I tried on and after trying a few others I put it on again and knew it was the one. Janet was so amazing that day and brought out champagne for us to celebrate. My bridesmaids also went to GBC to choose their dresses and we had such a good time. All the dresses came in with plenty of time for them to have alterations done. I decided to add extra tulle for a little more cleveage coverage and it looked fabulous and custom made for me with in house alterations. It was explained to me that all visits are appt only. I then asked to make an appt to be measured. Gown Boutique was the last appointment on a full day of trying on dresses. I thought I had already found "the dress" at another store, but just wanted to look since I booked the appointment. Both of my parents had been shopping all day with me and decided to go home since we thought I had found the dress already. Then, I fell in love with my first dress at Gown Boutique! One of the first things out of my mouth to Jenna, the saleslady, was that I loved the dress, but I was not going to buy anything that day since my parents weren't there. I was pressured and asked at least three times to "buy today and save 15%!" I found this to be extremely offensive after having made it clear how important my family is in this dress process! Because we felt so uncomfortable there, we hurried to finish and leave. I tried to get 2 other local bridal stores to order this dress because I had such apprehension about supporting this business! Since no one else could order it, I had no choice but to return. I made an appointment with my parents. We arrived and were brought back to the "alterations closet" to put on my dress. Jenna opened the curtain so that I could show my parents and just stood there- no platform, no big mirror, no veil, no moment alone with my parents until I asked her to leave me with my dad for a minute!! This couldn't have been further from the experiences I had in many other bridal stores in Charleston! Email contact, though timely, was quite brash! I couldn't wait to get my dress and get it out of there! When I went retrieve my dress, I made an appointment, as was required. I asked to try the dress on to make sure it was my dress that we were actually leaving with. I was told that the 2 employees were busy helping other "brides"- 1 other bride in the store! Thankfully, I had my sister there. We were taken again to the "alterations closet" where I was able to slip on my dress to ensure it was mine. I became so discouraged after the first two boutiques which were both disorganized, and one had an extremely rude staff. First, I was told by two other Charleston brides to avoid this place as the employees were rude and was in no means worth visiting. My sister, "the bride" (I am 9 years her Senior) was not aware and made the appointment. There were 6 total in our party shopping. (Mob, 2 sisters and sister in laws). We informed all the appointments of this ahead of time to make sure it wasn't an issue. (No other boutique had any issues, welcomed our "fun" party and offered champagne) We were all having the best day, laughing, completely relaxed and excited to be out to find "the dress" UNTIL we came here. Upon arriving, the owner said to my sister "are all THESE people with you !!??" With an attitude and look of disgust that completely upset all of us. She quickly informed us that she did not have seating to accommodate us, and we would have to wait "behind the rope" Once we were eventually called back, we were instructed to stay in a "designated area". There was ZERO hospitality. Our carefree happy, mood for this special occasion was immediately extinguished upon entering the door. Determined to continue acting as if nothing was wrong for my sister, I opted to look at the dresses with her , pointing out my suggestions... I was immediately scolded and told not to touch the dresses. We all just sat, and waited for this painful visit to be over. Saying that , We have shopped all over, have a closet full of Valentino, dolce and gabanna and Oscar couture clothing (much more expensive and exclusive than these gowns) and I have always had wonderful, warm and welcoming, "try on what you like" experiences whether the dress was $50 or 15k. I have never experienced such poor treatment from a place of business. If you want a fun, memorable, relaxing, welcoming and warm experience with your loved ones while you prepare for your special day DO NOT go here. My shopping experience at Gown Boutique of Charleston was fantastic, and ultimately I found my gown here after many boutiques. After you find your gown, you are also invited to incentives regarding bridesmaids dresses and gown preservation through GBC. My gown was in earlier than expected and the girls worked with me to schedule fittings when I was in the area on holidays. The fitting process was excellent, and the seamstress is very knowledgeable and skilled. For all the work they did, I found the cost to be quite reasonable (they hand-sewed lace to get a better fit). Overall, I was very pleased with my gown and with the customer service from start to finish. I wouldn't have wanted to wear any other dress! read more

I had been in here with a girlfriend when she was shopping and knew I wanted to go back when it was my turn! They serve Bellini's and/or champagne which is always a plus for me! The interior of Gown was warm, welcoming and clean. The girl helping me (Emily) was amazing. After I showed her pictures of dresses in the running, she was able to pull dresses in similar styles and some wild cards that I actually liked. Emily was in the dressing room with me and I am modest but was actually 100% comfortable- they are professionals after all! I told her my budget and she pulled dresses that were well below my budget which is always nice. She also did not bother giving me dresses that were above my budget. I tried on several dresses at Gown that I REALLY liked but did not have a "wow" moment in any of them. The entire staff is very friendly and not pushy. I am no novice to being in wedding parties, being in 6 I think I have a pretty good idea of the practices and processes that are involved with purchasing and altering a bridesmaid dress. I only heard great things about Gown before I was in a wedding party where the bride decided on a dress that they had. During the first fitting, our experience was so disappointing that the bride (luckily) decided to purchase her dress from another friendlier, more accommodating boutique in Charleston. Some of the employees bash competition within earshot of every guest and unfortunately have to comply with a policy that does not prioritize customer satisfaction. With every visit I found myself more and more let down with the way the boutique is managed. When my dress came in I asked the employee in the front of the store (the only one who greeted me) if there was and internal seamstress- she said she didn't know and couldn't give me a time to call back and see. By the time I reached someone to help me with the alterations as the dress could not be altered by an external shop, I was told that it would cost and average of $100 for a simple everyday procedure such as letting a 2 layered chiffon dress out by 1.5 inches, the dress only cost $250 to begin with. This is after the employee who measured me ordered a size that didn't fit based on her measurements of me. I was told that they order a size under sample (wouldn't over make sense so there was room for changes?) and in order to get a new dress shipped to me I would have to buy a new dress and receive no refund. The employee told me the old dress would still be returned to stock a re-sold. As a bride, you might have a much different experience but as a bridesmaid it has been a nightmare. I wouldn't out my bridal party through this and I won't be choosing them to help with my wedding. read more

As someone who worked in the industry several years ago this was the WORST service I've ever seen. The owner was rude, rushed us and spoke to her employee as though she were trash & in front of her "client". She rushed us and told the bride who wanted to try on serval styles to find the "one" that she needed to hurry up and figure out what she wanted. Don't bother to show up early even by 5 minutes because you will be spoken to as if you did something wrong and the best part, stuck in the front behind the velvet rope. Get ready for the ride of your bridal hell. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. Charleston is filled with fantastic places to find that perfect dress and I highly recommend you avoid this place especially if you are so lucky to get the owner to host you. read more

I wish I could give them 10 stars, honestly. Janet and Cierra were both AMAZING and helped my find the absolute perfect dress. I had made two appointments at other boutiques but was unable to find exactly what I was looking for, my mom and sister were here from out of town so was discouraged I wouldnt find THE dress while they were here from NJ. I called around to see if anywhere could fit us in but with it being about 2:30pm it was near impossible to get an appointment that same day. Then we called Gown Boutique and explained our situation, they let us know they were fully booked (and closed the next day on Sunday) but would make some calls to see if anyone was willing to stay late to fit us in and would give me a call back. They called me back within 10-15 minutes to let me know they would stay open and have us come in at 5pm. I was so blown away that they were willing to make this accommodation for us. When I got there I was so impressed with the selection they had available, they had the store split up into dresses under $1,800 and over, and we were able to browse the store while they set up my room and pulled some downs based on the descriptions I gave. They seriously listened to everything I described and pulled the absolute perfect dresses, with every dress they asked what I liked and did not like and pulled new dresses to better fit that vision. Seriously, every dress was better than the next. Although we were clearly the last appointment, never did I feel rushed. They took their time and provided a wonderful experience. They were SO knowledgeable and SO professional. Not only that, they suggested some customizations to make my dress absolutely perfect. 3 weeks ago I began my hunt for a wedding dress. Since my wedding date was less than 6 months away, my mom and I decided to book an appointment with Gown Boutique of Charleston because they had sample dresses that could be taken that day and since most dresses take 3-6 months to come in, we thought this boutique would be a great option. We were blown away by the beauty of the shop and ho kind everyone was. I came in open minded, not set style in mind. Once my consultant found the style I liked (all of the dresses she picked were ones I had no initial interest in) she picked about 6 dresses. Immediately I fell in love with the 1st one. All of them were gorgeous, but we had found the DRESS! Luckily the gown was available to ship by the first of the year. 3 weeks from the day I said yes to the dress, my dress was ready for pickup! It was everything I could imagine but better. Terri, the owner helped my try the dress on and find the perfect jewelry to go with it! The dress was a perfect fit! My best friend and I had a rough time at this store. The dress selection looked great but the snoots who owned the shop sized us up at the door and then dismissed us...really!!! I'm thinking that you need to dress to impress to get good service here. But they so missed out because my best friend bought the dress of her dreams down the street at White. As Charleston, SC is continuously voted one of the top wedding destinations in the USA, we were very excited to visit this "boutique." After making a reservation three weeks ago, our party arrived promptly at 3pm. We were greeted by a teenager. Our bridal specialists introduced herself to the bride, and, our party. That was the highlight of the experience. The saleswoman announced that our fitting was moved to the alteration room. Huh. Ok, things happen. The other brides, in the premium fitting areas, were waited on hand and foot. We were reduced to wait near the restroom while the bride was fitted. This store has dresses suited to stepford brides - anything you see on the knot or any other naitonal wedding dress distrubutor. We have no budget (which was determined the survey we replied to three weeks ago), so, it was suprising to be met with such a lack of customer service.
