Governor Room
Cassie P.

Just returned from a lovely stay at Governors Inn! I think I finally found my go-to Tallahassee hotel and look forward to the next time I can visit. I initially chose this spot due to its proximity to the FSU campus. I have never been and needed to scope out enemy territory. (I kid. Kind of.) It ended up being a great location for everything I needed, including my run around the FSU campus one morning. There were a few restaurants nearby and one in particular (Jasmine's) offered 20% off if you showed your room key. I stayed in a Governor Room, Governor Reed to be precise, as it was the cheapest. It was a small room with a very high bed (step stool required for this short gal), mini fridge, armoire, TV, writing desk and bathroom. Didn't need too much else! The bed was notably comfortable and on top of everything, it was very quiet at night so I slept great. Now that I know about the loft suites and courtyard rooms, I'll definitely try to score one of those next time. In the mornings, they had a simple complimentary breakfast of toast and bagels, waffles, yogurt, granola, bananas, coffee and OJ. There was no gym, but they offer access to a nearby one. I missed out on the manager's nightly happy hour but next time, I'll definitely plan my stay better to check that out.

Remote with tape and poor tv color

The hotel is unique but extremely dated. Our room was lacking a mini fridge but they accommodated us with an ice bucket which was sufficient. The TV was terrible, horrible buzzing noise, color was blue tinted and Comcast remote had batteries taped in. Carpet is warn as well as mattress, there were 2 indentions in the mattress. Tv cabinet would not open completely. I don't typically complain but for the price, this was disappointing. I also posted this before the hotel ran out of hot water, 60 seconds into my shower! I understand this an old hotel but I have stayed in plenty of older hotels in NOLA that do not have this problem. Oh, and the mold in our room was unacceptable.

The Governor's Inn is in a great location, but is loooong overdue for an overhaul. The furniture and carpets are worn and damaged. The second floor room area has a strange odor that is similar to low tide or a closed oyster bar. Unfortunately all Tallahassee hotels suffer from poor management and a poor labor pool. The Governor's Inn is no exception. In addition to being old and worn, the hotel seems unclean.

One of the only working outlets in the room. Hanging off the wall.

I cannot even believe how disgusting this place is. We paid a fortune and the quality of our room was way below any Motel 8 I stayed in as a poor college student 30 years ago. First of all, I'm pretty sure it hasn't been updated... maybe EVER. I know this is a historic landmark, but I'm pretty sure I was sleeping on a mattress from 1975. Not only was our bathroom incredibly outdated (which I may have been able to deal with had the price been 75% lower), but it was filthy. Mildew, stained ceiling tiles, dust bunnies hanging from the 1970s era fluorescent light fixture, grubby floor tiles with hairs on them. (See photos, it's almost unbelievable). On top of that, we had no hot water. None! On a big game weekend. Now they told us it must just be our room. They gave us access to a different room to shower. That water was cold too. And I heard all of the guests complaining about cold showers. Then the manager on duty actually had the nerve to tell us, "Well, if our maintenance person can't get it working, we'll have to wait until Monday to get it fixed." Uh, NO, you need to get a 24 hour plumbing company out here NOW! We tried to shower the next day. Still cold. We flew home dirty. The Governor's Inn also purports to have "breakfast". I. Can't. Even. A couple of stale pastries, slimy hard boiled eggs, lunch meat ham rolled in to little tubes, fruit well beyond it's expiration date, and weak coffee. No good creamers to mask the lame coffee. Bottom line, I worked at the Capitol in the early 90's, and the Governor's Inn was a nice, respected, historic landmark. I could never afford to stay there back then. Now that I can afford it, I was so excited to stay here. I'm mortified. They should be embarrassed. The health department should shut them down. Yes, it's THAT bad.

I decided to give it a try because all the hotels in the area were completely booked or overpriced for the Cross Country State Championship. I am so happy that I decided to stay here with my Cross Country Team. I brought 10 kids here and booked 4 rooms for cheaper than most hotels in the area. I called the hotel and booked directly through them. Mr. Bruce was very helpful and got us exactly the rooms we needed. When we arrived, it was raining and we were greeted with umbrella service and smiling faces. Bruce was so accommodating, I've never recieved that kind of service before. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was everything we needed. Most places are not nice about having 10 kids (high schoolers) but he treated them just as any other paying adult, which is much appreciated. He made sure we had breakfast before the competition and gave us late check out so the athletes can shower afterwards. I will definitely be coming back with my husband and would book for next year's state competition as well! Thank you Bruce!

We really enjoyed our visit to Tallahassee and would highly recommend Governors Inn for a great place to stay. The Inn is conveniently located within walking or short driving distance to FSU and the state capital buildings. If you bring your car, you will have to pay the $12 valet parking to park daily but the service is worth it. We were impressed with the front desk staff who were helpful in getting us checked in early and recommending good places nearby to dine. If you are available at 5:00 p.m. they offer a complimentary cocktail hour with beer and wine. We missed the window, but they did pour us a glass of wine for just $5.00 when we came in later in the evening which we enjoyed in the gorgeous lobby sitting area with some delicious peanuts. Breakfast is simple, no frills mostly continental with a few extra proteins like hard boiled eggs and sliced meats. The beds in the rooms were high but super comfortable. Each room is named for a former Governor. Our room was on the third floor and the Inn has no elevators so we got a little exercise coming and going to our room. The historic building has been beautiful restored to preserve the history yes still feel fresh, clean, and new. I will absolutely plan to stay here next time I am in town.

It was extremely uncomfortable and unsanitary. When I went to the front desk, I was told the hotel was completely sold out and there were no other rooms available. The only solution they offered was to give me fresh sheets, and the staff acted like they were doing me a favor instead of addressing a basic cleanliness issue. For a Hampton property, I expected a much higher standard. Clean sheets and a clean bed should be the minimum. Unfortunately, this stay fell far short of that.

LOCATION: 3.5 STARS This location is sandwiched between a former railroad station and a Sunoco station. Passenger service was suspended on the nearby train line long ago ( Jacksonville to New Orleans ). CSX sold the tracks to a shortline; I did not see a single freight train my entire visit. Homeless people have moved into this vacuum and congregate on the passenger platform, thus negating that the exterior has been restored and us pleasing to the eye. Forget popping over to the Sunoco for a bag of chips, the folks going in and out of there looked mighty dicey. On the other hand, if one briskly walks around the corner that the Sunoco is on, making no eye contact, one quickly reaches civilization, with all the pink cheeked college kids about. This college and presumably fairly safe area is pretty large. PAYING TO PARK: ZERO STARS Thus would have been a 4 Star review, had not Hilton nickel dimed me at my own hotel, and there were plenty of empty spaces. This practice is vile and they should cease to do it.

The location is perfectly placed near Cascades Park and The Edison, which made it really easy to get out and enjoy the area. I took advantage of the trail at Cascades Park a couple of times during my stay. The on-site hotel restaurant was also very good. I had brunch there and it made for a great view. They do have valet parking which is fine, but personally, I prefer a lot so I can come and go as I please. Still, the valet attendants were always very nice and efficient. The hotel staff was also very friendly. I appreciated that they had a designated setup for deliveries, especially since you need your key card to use the elevators. It made everything feel organized and secure. The rooms themselves were great too. One thing I especially loved was the backlighting feature within the rooms. It gave the space a really clean and modern feel. So much counter space in the bathrooms and the lighting was great. Overall, it was a really solid stay and I would definitely stay here again if I find myself back in Tallahassee.

Other than that, I not only loved its Expedia (8.3 out of 1,004) and Hilton Honors (4.3 out of 5.0) rating, but that it was a mile out from the starting line for the event I visited the city of Tallahassee for. My experience with the young energetic receptionist working behind the desk was nothing less than professional. Since my room was already booked through Hilton Honors, the only thing check-in consisted of was a verification of my information, a briefing on what is offered, and giving me my room key. For your information check-in starts at 3:00pm and ends at 12:00am! And check-out ends at 12:00pm! Home2 Suites, as expected, appeared immaculately beautiful! After locating and entering the room I stayed in, I browsed around taking notice of the room and its kitchenette area. It came with a refrigerator, dishwasher, sink with garbage disposal, and dishware. Now the furniture in the room gave the room somewhat of a homely feeling. The orange couch, pillows, green footrest and the carpet in the room looked like something you would see in your grandmother's house I swear, tehehe. The workspace in the room had a rollable table along with a rollable chair. And inside the shower, there were liquid products by Gilchrist & Soames Zero% attached to the wall. Throughout my travels, I have noticed that hotels have completely dealt away with the mini shampoo, bath soap, and conditioner products that made great travel hygiene additions. Along with those notable things inside of the room, it met my cleanliness standards. I had no issues whatsoever getting comfortable in the king-sized bed during my stay as my head was engulfed in between the comfortable pillows. To further assist with a restful evening, the television had Calm installed on it which is the #1 app for sleep and meditation. I have continued utilizing Calm during many of my stays at Hilton hotels. While utilizing the shower, I really enjoyed the water pressure; its soothing pressure made me feel very cleansed during each usage. It was wonderful toggling with the three spray patterns, with the addictive feel of the pressure hitting my face and body. Other things the room came with that I noticed were a comforter, an iron, ironing board, a coffee maker (Cuisinart), a refrigerator, microwave, blow dryer, power adapter with USB and AC plugin, and several lamps which added a nice touch to the room. And the Wi-Fi internet was easy to connect to and not once did I have any connectivity issues with it during my stay. Home2 Suites by Hilton, as expected, had an exceptionally beautiful inner interior! The lobby of this hotel is large and adds an energetic vibe. I was able to take note of that while waiting for my Lyft driver to pick me up and take me out and about. Within it there are several seats available for you to relax, enjoy your stay, or simply watch television. Inside of it there are also two desktop computers available. After returning to the hotel from touring Tallahassee, I could not help but notice the lovely fire pit within the patio, which is a nice touch! And surrounding the fire pit, there are several seats available to make your time relaxing and pleasant at Home2 Suites. As a fitness enthusiast, it was great having a fitness center onsite because it allowed me to keep up with my fitness routines during my stay. And I was pleased to see the number of dumbbell weights, medicine balls, a decent selection of workout machines, and a peloton fitness bike which I must say charmed me out of my panties once I spotted it. Even though I did not utilize it due to purchasing nutritional drinks that lasted each day, it was a relief having the option of the complimentary breakfast because I would not have had to worry about finding a restaurant for breakfast in the morning. And for your information it is served Monday-Friday from 6:00am - 9:00am, and Saturday-Sunday from 7:00am - 10:00am. If you are visiting Tallahassee, Home2 Suites by Hilton sits not only within an acceptable walking distance of a plethora of restaurants and businesses, but a little over a mile from sights like the Civil Rights Heritage Walk, John G Riley Center & Museum, and the Florida State Capitol, which are few that I visited. I would surely book Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee State Capitol again due to my experience with it because the hotel met my comfort needs, and I love that its location is within an accessible distance of things of interest in Tallahassee. ~ Keep moving Forward ~ Thomas G

Had no issues with checking in as the manager was training a new clerk at the desk. Checked out the pool and workout room before going up to our rooms. There is an indoor pool; however, the pool looked dirty and needed to be cleaned and looked like it had damage to finish which was green and gross looking. We didn't plan on swimming so that was what it was. The workout room was small and we couldn't even take a step in due to the smell - musty/moldy. Ok- so not working out here. Up to our rooms and they look okay. Looks like it was probably remodeled a few years ago. Could see that it wasn't the best kept place. Trying not to get hung up too bad but the white towels weren't too bright - thinking it was probably just older towels. Room had no charging stations which had become a standard in most places. AC worked great, like an icebox. Next, sat on the beds - AWFUL squeaking. I see what looks like a dog's toenail on the bedding and decide, let's check the mattress. Something feels off and I usually check for bed bugs when traveling. I pulled the blanket and sheets, removed TWO sets of mattress protectors, AND a folded blanket covering the mattress under the protector, to find STAINS - gross, filthy, disgusting stains covering the whole mattress. Obviously being covered up instead of cleaning or replacing. The springs were broken in the mattress and could be felt poking up. The second mattress was also stained but not nearly as bad. We immediately left the room and told the manager the reason we were leaving, showing him photos. He very nonchalantly said "okay" without apologizing or showing any concern - probably because he knows. Only reason I gave a 2 star instead of 1 star is they refunded the rooms without any issues. This is just not acceptable for any hotel. We moved to another hotel north of this area and the difference was huge. East Tallahassee is obviously not the best area to stay, which we didn't know coming in from out of town but guessed based on the hip hop chicken joint next door and adult store across the street. North was awesome with tons of restaurants and shopping nearby.

You can almost hear the furniture whispering, "We were installed during a different presidential administration." The staff experience was also a mixed bag. Some employees were genuinely friendly and welcoming. Others had the emotional warmth of a self-checkout kiosk. Housekeeping is every two days, which I know has become more common, but still feels a little strange when you're paying hotel prices and hoping at minimum someone acknowledges the existence of your trash can. Honestly, I was leaning toward two stars for most of the stay. Then on the way out, I met who I believe was the associate manager, Charles (I hope I remembered his name correctly). Friendly, personable, engaging... the kind of interaction that reminds you customer service used to actually be a thing. He genuinely brightened my morning and, no joke, added an entire star to this review by himself. Which raises a bigger question: Why has friendliness become such a rare luxury item lately? Especially when there's no line, no chaos, no stress... just another human standing in front of you. It costs nothing to be kind, but somehow it's become the hardest amenity to find. So overall, I'm landing at three stars. An underwhelming stay rescued at the finish line by one good human interaction. And honestly?
