I really enjoyed my one night stay at the Governor's Inn. The evening that I arrived at Governor's Inn was right after having had a horrible experience at the Wyndham Garden Tallahassee Capitol, a room that I had booked through the Hotel Tonight app. I had seen the Governor's Inn on the app but had decided to forgo it due to the comfort in a familiar name (Wyndham). Big mistake. I'll just refer readers to my review on Wyndham's page for details on that experience. The Governor's Inn was a welcomed surprise. It is chock full of charm and class! From the courteous gentleman valeting vehicles out front to the classic, no-frills continental breakfast in the morning, this hotel offered me exactly what I needed the night before a big interview. I was only in town for one night, and I really needed to be close to the building in which I was interviewing the next morning. The location is extremely central to all things "downtown" and I really loved the fact that I could walk to Harry's and other local restaurants. The rate was very reasonable and the accommodations, while small, were not much smaller than one you would find in a standard NYC hotel. I could not figure out if the volume on the TV was broken or if they control it so that it does not become loud enough to disturb nearby hotel guests. Either way, I was able to enjoy the NBA playoff game for a little while, which was perfect since I was not there for entertainment. My favorite aspect of my stay was being assigned to my favorite governor's room - Bob Graham! I love the history that accompanies the Governor's Inn and I would definitely stay there again, if in need of a hotel in the Tallahassee area. read more

Two nights here at a great location not far from the State Capitol. I was in a room at the back of the hotel, so I did not have any of the street noise of the restaurants and clubs. So there's that. Still, only a three star visit. I was starting to unpack my stuff when I opened a drawer. A previous guest had left something in one of the drawers. I opted not to make a thing about it because what are they going to do? It set off my concerns about cleanliness for the remainder of my stay. Not that there was anything else, but now I'm concerned. I closed the drawer and ignored it the remainder of my stay. The room was otherwise good. The air conditioner had a loud hum to it. Enough that I left it set to 75 degrees at night so that it wouldn't wake me up when it kicked in. My room did not have a slow-close spring. I don't know if others do or don't, but I did not hear slamming doors or other hallway/neighbor noise. There were no exposed power outlets. I get that this is a more classic design hotel but I had to reach down to unplug the lamp to have a place to charge my phone at the bedside. At the desk, I had to unplug the Keurig to have a place to plug in my laptop. Not great. The bathroom was roomy and the vanity area had enough space to spread out. However, the shower had no handle or grip. That's not right. Parking in downtown is not free. On the weekend, the meters are free. The hotel did not have a parking valet (COVID) and currently offers their limited spaces out front on a first-come basis. I found space within a block of the hotel each time I needed it. A find on the Hotel Tonight app, we ditched our uncomfortable room at the Howard Johnson and moved downtown for our second night in Tallahassee. Wow. What an awesome place. Kinda quirky and unique, they had an amazing bed, great robes and lots of towels. We had no idea how to work the TV, but we were really only there to sleep, so that didn't matter much. We had a room in the "chambers" section and the twins slept on the fold out sofa bed As far as I know it was comfortable. They snored all night long. read more

Just returned from a lovely stay at Governors Inn! I think I finally found my go-to Tallahassee hotel and look forward to the next time I can visit. I initially chose this spot due to its proximity to the FSU campus. I have never been and needed to scope out enemy territory. (I kid. Kind of.) It ended up being a great location for everything I needed, including my run around the FSU campus one morning. There were a few restaurants nearby and one in particular (Jasmine's) offered 20% off if you showed your room key. I stayed in a Governor Room, Governor Reed to be precise, as it was the cheapest. It was a small room with a very high bed (step stool required for this short gal), mini fridge, armoire, TV, writing desk and bathroom. Didn't need too much else! The bed was notably comfortable and on top of everything, it was very quiet at night so I slept great. Now that I know about the loft suites and courtyard rooms, I'll definitely try to score one of those next time. In the mornings, they had a simple complimentary breakfast of toast and bagels, waffles, yogurt, granola, bananas, coffee and OJ. There was no gym, but they offer access to a nearby one. I missed out on the manager's nightly happy hour but next time, I'll definitely plan my stay better to check that out. read more

If you need a place close to FSU or the Capital building and enjoy a historical hotel, then this is a decent place to stay, but if you are not into historic hotels, you may want to stay elsewhere. I generally like the charm of historic hotels, but they are just not as comfortable or clean as modern day hotels, and this place could use an upgrade. There were no major complaints other than the decor is dated, the beds are not that comfortable, the bathroom are old, and the carpet is just ugly. I would give this 4 1/2 stars if possible. Only draw back is off site parking which can be troublesome if you need to get something out of your vehicle. Parking is $7 per day plus tip valet each time car is picked up. Very friendly and efficient front desk staff. Stayed in very nice atrium room. Poster bed with nice mattress. Very quiet. Small fridge. Beuatiful crown molding Cocktails, beer and wine served from 5 to 6:30.Complementary ! Did not get to participate but heard they were serving good quality booze. The hotel is unique but extremely dated. Our room was lacking a mini fridge but they accommodated us with an ice bucket which was sufficient. The TV was terrible, horrible buzzing noise, color was blue tinted and Comcast remote had batteries taped in. Carpet is warn as well as mattress, there were 2 indentions in the mattress. Tv cabinet would not open completely. I don't typically complain but for the price, this was disappointing. I also posted this before the hotel ran out of hot water, 60 seconds into my shower! I understand this an old hotel but I have stayed in plenty of older hotels in NOLA that do not have this problem. Oh, and the mold in our room was unacceptable. read more

The Governor's Inn is in a great location, but is loooong overdue for an overhaul. The furniture and carpets are worn and damaged. The second floor room area has a strange odor that is similar to low tide or a closed oyster bar. Unfortunately all Tallahassee hotels suffer from poor management and a poor labor pool. I cannot even believe how disgusting this place is. We paid a fortune and the quality of our room was way below any Motel 8 I stayed in as a poor college student 30 years ago. First of all, I'm pretty sure it hasn't been updated... maybe EVER. I know this is a historic landmark, but I'm pretty sure I was sleeping on a mattress from 1975. Not only was our bathroom incredibly outdated (which I may have been able to deal with had the price been 75% lower), but it was filthy. Mildew, stained ceiling tiles, dust bunnies hanging from the 1970s era fluorescent light fixture, grubby floor tiles with hairs on them. (See photos, it's almost unbelievable). On top of that, we had no hot water. None! On a big game weekend. Now they told us it must just be our room. They gave us access to a different room to shower. That water was cold too. And I heard all of the guests complaining about cold showers. Then the manager on duty actually had the nerve to tell us, "Well, if our maintenance person can't get it working, we'll have to wait until Monday to get it fixed." Uh, NO, you need to get a 24 hour plumbing company out here NOW! We tried to shower the next day. Still cold. We flew home dirty. The Governor's Inn also purports to have "breakfast". I. Can't. Even. A couple of stale pastries, slimy hard boiled eggs, lunch meat ham rolled in to little tubes, fruit well beyond it's expiration date, and weak coffee. No good creamers to mask the lame coffee. Bottom line, I worked at the Capitol in the early 90's, and the Governor's Inn was a nice, respected, historic landmark. I could never afford to stay there back then. Now that I can afford it, I was so excited to stay here. I'm mortified. They should be embarrassed. The health department should shut them down. Yes, it's THAT bad. read more

I decided to give it a try because all the hotels in the area were completely booked or overpriced for the Cross Country State Championship. I am so happy that I decided to stay here with my Cross Country Team. I brought 10 kids here and booked 4 rooms for cheaper than most hotels in the area. I called the hotel and booked directly through them. Mr. Bruce was very helpful and got us exactly the rooms we needed. When we arrived, it was raining and we were greeted with umbrella service and smiling faces. Bruce was so accommodating, I've never recieved that kind of service before. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was everything we needed. Most places are not nice about having 10 kids (high schoolers) but he treated them just as any other paying adult, which is much appreciated. He made sure we had breakfast before the competition and gave us late check out so the athletes can shower afterwards. I will definitely be coming back with my husband and would book for next year's state competition as well! Thank you Bruce! read more

Read all the reviews of this hotel, I made the mistake of not, now I'm suffering. We arrived in Tallahassee for work and the first night were exposed to someone with Covid and now have to quarantine, I explained the situation to the front desk and asked for a refund for the remainder of the stay. The front desk employee told me I needed to talk to Jim, when Jim walked by I addressed him to start my conversation, he said "I'm not Jim". It was Jim the front desk guy even said so. The hotel and service are sad and unacceptable. Now I'm going to post this everywhere I can and contact the BBB. Eclectic hotel walking distance to the Florida State campus. Each room is named after a past Governor. A bit dated, has a haunted house feel to it. The front door/valet staff were young boys that were extremely pleasant and helpful. They had complimentary wine/snacks in the evening. read more

We really enjoyed our visit to Tallahassee and would highly recommend Governors Inn for a great place to stay. The Inn is conveniently located within walking or short driving distance to FSU and the state capital buildings. If you bring your car, you will have to pay the $12 valet parking to park daily but the service is worth it. We were impressed with the front desk staff who were helpful in getting us checked in early and recommending good places nearby to dine. If you are available at 5:00 p.m. they offer a complimentary cocktail hour with beer and wine. We missed the window, but they did pour us a glass of wine for just $5.00 when we came in later in the evening which we enjoyed in the gorgeous lobby sitting area with some delicious peanuts. Breakfast is simple, no frills mostly continental with a few extra proteins like hard boiled eggs and sliced meats. The beds in the rooms were high but super comfortable. Each room is named for a former Governor. Our room was on the third floor and the Inn has no elevators so we got a little exercise coming and going to our room. The historic building has been beautiful restored to preserve the history yes still feel fresh, clean, and new. I will absolutely plan to stay here next time I am in town. read more

I was a little skeptical about this place for a few reasons: The price seemed really cheap compared to the over-inflated Tallahassee hotel scene. The reviews on Yelp didn't seem so great. BUT, I decided to take a chance and book this place, since the fare was reasonable (booked thru hotels.com) and it was close to the location were we needed to be. The pics online looked like a homey spot, and for a night's stay, why not give it a shot! And I'm really glad I did. I wish I had more time to check out the property.... but from what I did experience, was truly unique and cool. It feels like B&B, but with the privacy of a hotel. Sure, there were old pictures of weird ducks on the wall, and cheesy wallpaper, but a few antiques strategically placed in the rooms for a nice touch, but rooms were clean, and the beds were comfy. And for the shorties out there.... you may have to jump up a little bit to get up on the bed there... but super soft sheets made for great sleeping. We were in Governor Adam's room, and I cannot wait to book one of the suites with the staircases and check out the property a bit more. Will definitely be booking again!!! One quick heads up! My bill was wrong, as well as another friend staying at the same place. I'm a very regular business traveler. I chose the Governors Inn due to its location and my desire to try something a bit more interesting than yet another predictable room in a Marriott property. How about some personality for a change? The Governors Inn is certainly bubbling with personality. Obviously historic and situated in a spot in the city that is central to everything. Adams St looks as if it's something out of another century - because it is. Having said all that, the Governors Inn has all the positives and negatives of a historic property. Yes, the building is cool and harkens back to another time, but that also includes the miniature rooms, tiny TVs, ancient furnishings and bathrooms which have tons of personality but lack modern standards of square footage. So, the value of the Governors Inn is all in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I happen to be a student of history and this place is a nice break from the norm for me. But as much as I see as great about the Inn could just as easily be unacceptable for someone without that appreciation. But I'm a fan - and will be back. read more

He called the hotel to cancel his room and they told him they would not cancel his stay and he was going to have to eat the hotel room. We got married in Tallahassee in March. It is a family tradition for the groom to stay at this hotel the night before weddings and the couple on the night of weddings. With this it mind, it pains us to convey how dissatisfied we were about our most recent stay. We reserved a special two-level room with a credit card well in advance of our wedding, but when my husband to be arrived, there was no reservation. The clerk told him that our the room had been reserved for the same day in February (the month before our wedding). But this couldnt be because my mother made the reservation, and I was there when she made it. I also later confirmed the reservation. It is highly unlikely that my we would both get the month of our wedding wrong. It is more likely that the clerk or clerks made the mistake. The end result is that we didn't get the room we wanted for our wedding night. The room we received (#200) was sadly less than mediocre. The TV remote didn't work properly. One of the bed-side lamps didn't work. It didnt seem very clean. Early in the morning after my future husband's first night, he was startled awake (on the day of our wedding) by a call from a belligerent housekeeper asking if we needed service that day. It was well before 9. He indicated that he would want service that day, and went back to sleep. An hour or so later, he was startled awake again (on the day of my wedding) by the same belligerent housekeeper pounding on the door. He asked her if she could come back in a bit after he got dressed, but she said she was leaving for the day (using a harsh tone, as if she was inconvenienced). Before leaving for our wedding, he told the clerk about what happened. Nothing was done. We came back later that night to a messy room that spoiled what would have been a nice gift of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries. We were terribly disappointed. We again told the clerk when we were checking out, and nothing was done. We also responded to a follow up email asking how our stay was, and two months later, never received a response. It is clear they weren't actually interested in our experience. Over the years, my family has enjoyed and come to expect a high standard of excellence at this hotel. This standard was not met at our most recent stay, not even close. We sincerely hope that these issues will be addressed in some way before our next family wedding. read more

Booked a great fare through Hotels.com as a staycation for me and my SO. Service was impeccable and went way above and beyond our expectations--even though there's no restaurant in the hotel, they still offer room service for the restaurants across the street, and the staff was willing to bring everything from wine glasses to extra towels directly to the room as well. When I ordered a cup of coffee from Andrew's (across the street) with dinner, the night staff actually brought a carafe of hot coffee, two mugs, cream and sugar on a platter directly to our door. When we expressed a desire to make the room cooler, they brought up a box fan. If we had asked for an elephant, they probably would have found a way to get a pachyderm up the stairs. The decor and exposed beams made this an adorable place to stay, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. If you're looking for a mini-getaway, definitely give this place a look. read more

We have stayed at the Governors Inn each time, and the cleanliness and the details put into the service and rooms is worth every penny. It seemed like we were so important. Every request was met with a smile. We felt welcomed and would return anytime. I have traveled all over the USA and abroad. It is a charming inn. The staff extremely welcoming and informative. It is an older property and does show wear(this gives it charm in my opinion). Wish a coffee maker in the room was provided. Also I would've liked a place to plug in a hairdryer near a mirror. No outlets in the bathroom this room. My last stay's room did have an outlet. Parking is addressed by a valet system. Your car will be brought to you upon request. It is an extra charge. If you don't opt for valet service you must use the parking garage down the hill. The morning breakfast and wine/beer happy hour are a nice touch of social. The walking distance to local eateries is awesome. If you are not expecting modern slick this place is perfect. I love this charming inn, wrinkles and all. August 4, 2017: Staying at the Governors Inn for the 3rd time. This time not as nice a stay as the past 2. The parking is messed up. The people driving in front of me got the last spot in front. They were met with an umbrella escort into the building. Me, I was met with "what are you doing?" I head for the door in the rain and he says "can I have your keys to move the car?" I tell him I need to get the luggage out and leave again to pick someone up. I checkin go to get my luggage and no keys to my locked car with flashers on parked in front. 3 valets and still one ran off with my keys in his pocket. I had to bring my own luggage in; the guy supposedly helping was defending why he took my keys. At least the other valet offered to help as I carried my bags. When I returned with my daughter he did bring her luggage in. Woken up by others guests banging on doors across the hall. They decided to yell through the door and hold a conversation. BTW he is packed and will be waiting in the lobby. As I try to go back to sleep the upstairs guests are showering. How do I know? It is loud. So this stay is short. Next stay might be better. $189 per night plus another $12 per night for parking ya hope it would. read more

My wife and I won a free night stay at the Governors Inn. We were given room 104. We were suprised by the small room. The 4 poster bed was almost impossible to get in due to how high it was off of the floor. The water pressure was almost nothing ( I know the hotel does not have direct control but still a problem) The advertisement we read for the rooms said I-pod dock, there was none. The free Wi-fi was a joke. I could not do anything on it because it was so slow. I ended up just using my phone to surf the internet. The TV is tiny for such an upclass hotel, I have seen larger TVs in budget motels, also the TV was blocked by one of the posts on the bed. There was some strange beeping noise that the staff seemed not to hear or care about. When we noticed a nasty stain on the bottom sheet of our bed that looked like dried blood we had enough. When we left the staff seemed not to care. I guess because we won a free night. When I have a customer win something I go out of my way to keep them as a customer. I was very suprised after reading the reviews of the great staff there. Stay away from this one and find somewhere else, there are alot nicer and cheaper places to stay in Tallahassee. I get ALOT of out of town clients and will never recommend they stay there. read more

Well we got to stay here only for one night. If they didn't screw up the bills it would have been a really close to perfect night. From the start at the valet he was super nice and even helped an old man with his baggage. No elevator was a bummer but the stairs weren't that bad. The room was a bit smaller but still had everything that you needed. It was also very clean and everything was where it needed to be. The bed was a smidge on the tall side. It hit me about mid belly in height. The inside of the hotel was really cool from the Bob the Builder side of me. All old exposed beam gives me the warm n fuzzes. The place is in pretty good shape being how old they say it is. Heck who remembers Lawten Chiles as Governor. I do but I'm really old. All the rooms are named after Governor's and other stately famous people. In all a good place and if you get a good rate I will stay here again. read more

Where shall I start.....no towels or washcloths when we got in the room, no sheets or pillows for the awful awful pull out sofa. Half the lights didn't work. Couldn't even see yourself in the bathroom mirror because the lights were so dim. Stairs to the loft were very wobbly and needed repaired. Breakfast was worthless. Thank you to the night manager who tried his best to make it right.... and thank goodness we only stayed one night. Sorry to say we won't be back read more

Don't stay. It's not quaint. Most rooms have basically no windows or a prison cell window. Worst breakfast in America, no cereal, poor coffee, nothing warm to eat. And no elevator. This place is super cute antique and unique. I thought it was a nicer experience than a chain hotel because it was so different. It's a little out of date, but I think that's the point. It smelled a little like old people in our room at first but we lit a candle. The shower had a couple random bursts of cold water, but otherwise it was a nice stay. They're super friendly here. I have never experienced worst service at a hotel. First of all, the owner and staff is very disrespectful to their paying guests, showing little to no respect or courtesy. Also, my friends and myself leave the hotel for a couple hours and return to our keys being deactivated for no reason at all. The owner also proceeded to tell us our behavior would not be acceptable in "his" hotel, when weve been nothing but respectful to both his staff, the room, and the hotel overall. He then went on to say that our keys were deactivated and wouldnt work, so we would be locked out of the hotel room WE payed for, with all of our valuables and belongings inside. The amount of hostility and rude actions that have been taken against my friends and I is unacceptable, considering the amount of money we payed. Would never stay here again. read more

This cute little boutique hotel was built in 1940! It was a horse stable before that and sits in downtown surrounded by restaurants and the IMAX theater. We just needed a place to crash on our way home from visiting family in Birmingham, and this little gem was perfect! The decor isn't fancy, modern, or chic... It's a little dated really. But the beds were comfortable and the loft provided a little privacy. The tiny balcony area sits over the courtyard and was a lovely place to have my coffee in the morning. The breakfast included great bagels and granola and they didn't put it away at 9 sharp. This place seems somewhat deserted and our valeted car sat in the same place we left it right out front for easy access. It was 140 a night, which is steep for the area, but the added privacy of the loft made it worth it. If this hotel got a makeover and bathroom update, it would get 5 stars and I would happily pay more.. They should have a little beer garden or restaurant in this cute court yard, but the quiet solitude works too. I would definitely stay here if you are traveling with your children... This hotel was recommended by a friend (I didn't check the yelp reviews- shame on me). This is a little gem in Tallahassee. It's is old but very well maintained. The staff is unbelievably friendly and very helpful with local advice. They have a generous happy hour in their quaint lobby. Highly recommend going and enjoying this time. I have stayed twice and is my hotel of choice in Tallahassee. There are other fancier hotels but this is a small very well located place. read more
