Plenty of signage around telling you what each building/area was for back in the day. There are campsites available for those so inclined. I'm not all that sure I'd want to spend the night here, as I get an inkling that there might be a restless spirit or two hanging about. (if you believe that sort of thing) There's a small spot for food and drink right by where the ferry does the pick up/drop off. There's also the Airstream Cafe and Captain Sausage on the opposite side of the island. There's no charge to visit the island and explore, so do it!

But this station's got the lot too: views of Harbour Bridge, Opera House (take that Milsons Point station!) and harbour water. It could be passed in as waterfront property almost, which in Sydney terms slaps another few hundred grands on its value. Circular Quay station is also close to transport: many bus lines end and start here, there's a taxi rank nearby and six wharfs to choose from (Circular Quay 2 - Milsons Point 1). Close to overpriced shops, heritage building (sort of 50s building, but that heritage here), lifts, 2 bathrooms, floor art on the platform, First Fleet garden, The Rocks. Alas, no parking spaces and no swimming pool here either. And so many train lines to choose from. Get a ticket! In terms of village feel, Milsons Point station wins, so it's a draw: Circular Quay 2 - Milsons Point 2. One last advice to impress visitors from overseas: Take the train from Wynyard to Circular Quay. Not only are you on the water front side, but when you step out you'll immediately see the duo Harbour Bridge and Opera House. A real winner!

From here, it was just a short walk over to the Sydney Opera House. Since it's a very touristy location, it will be very crowded all the time. There were plenty of food options of all costs and variety nearby. If you're headed elsewhere, you can catch a ferry ride from the wharf. You can also hop on the L2 and L3 light rail. The T2, T3, T4, T7, and T8 train lines ran through this station.

As train stations go, Asquith is pretty nice. Its small and doesn't handle big crowds so waiting…read morefor a train here is a much nicer experience than many other stations. Except at school arriving/leaving time where students from the two high schools in Asquith pack the platforms. On the down side, there is very little cover so waiting for a train in the rain is a fairly damp experience. There is no connection between the two platforms so if you find yourself on the wrong side of the station, you need to leave the station, walk down the road a bit, up over the railway bridge (with not much footpath and much traffic) then down the road a bit to re enter the station on the other side. Not much fun for the elderly or those with mobility issues. The big downside to Asquith station though is that very few trains stop here. Its closer to home than Hornsby so I would much rather walk to and from Asquith but end up at Hornsby most of the time because there are something like 2 trains/hour at Asquith. Occasionally I luck out on the way home and get an Asquith train (and a shorter walk) but not often.

It is not possible to walk from one terminal to another terminal. Upon arrival into SYD, you will be walking through Immigration Hall. Use a self service kiosk to print your Passport Ticket. From there, make your way take your picture to clear Customs. You'll be met by an Immigration Officer who will take your ticket and guide you to a queue # depending on what goods/money/etc to declare or not. Everything moves very quickly as many International Carriers arrive all throughout the day and night. At Baggage Claim, you'd typically find Foreign Currency Exchange, which our USD is very strong right now! Departing SYD was just as seamless. From Check-in, you must clear Immigration, then security. As for lounges, I'm a bit split. I will say that because of the way there terminals are laid out. I think I can appreciate how their lounges are at centralized. One side of the airport has one set of lounges and the other side has their own. Anyways, my issues with the lounges at least the Qantas business lounge and the Amex Centurion lounge was that both were lacking. Where I'm split is, is that really their fault or the fault with those who run the lounge. On that same note, the lounges are part of the airport so it has to be a part of the rating. This is something that I probably shouldn't take issue with but as someone fairly new to international travel I had been looking forward to for a long time. This was also at Auckland Airport in New Zealand by the way, they do smart passport border control whatever they call it these days. You scan your passport, get scanned by a camera and you move through the gate. Efficient? Very. Disappointing? Well for me yes because I had been looking forward to passport stamps.

Yet, the old girl feels a little tired and certainly doesn't have the oomph that Gayle and I have experienced with Istanbul or Singapore. If and when we come back to Australia, it won't be through this airport. Why? The new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is currently in its final testing and operational readiness phase, with passenger services scheduled to begin in October 2026.

Before traveling to Australia as foreign visitors with eligible passports, we applied for an…read moreelectronic tourist visa through the Australian Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) about 4 months before we departed from Honolulu. We were granted an electronic visa for tourism within 72 hours of our application and excitedly awaited our upcoming travel this March. We were a bit apprehensive about finding our way through Sydney's International Terminal, but were quickly relieved by clear directional signs and quick, easy electronic passport screening. We were impressed with the modern, sleek yet friendly-looking facility, the multiple new electronic security kiosks designed to handle the large number of incoming visitors and returning residents, and the local artwork displays. I must say it took us around 15 minutes from the arrival gate to baggage claim, then to check in and pass through immigration, as we didn't have anything to declare. Once we exited immigration, we met with our driver, who was proudly showing a company placard with our names boldly printed. This was by far the best and most efficient arrival procedures and processing into a foreign country that we have ever encountered. We'd happily return.
