I've been to other locations of this burger chain, though not too often as you pay higher prices for the "gourmet" of it all. It looks like a full service restaurant, but orders and payment are taken at the counter. Students may at times flock here (as I did) to save a couple quid because of their loyalty app which offers discounts and promotions, albeit with menu restrictions.
Chains come with consistency and I unfortunately admit that this one has consistently given me subpar meals. I tried a seasonal Ninja Chicken Burger (the novelty of a charcoal bun drew me in) that turned out to be a hot mess (the Katsu curry sauce was a flavour clash and made for soggy bread); and their regular menu beef burgers leave much to be desired. The choice of Skinny Fries and Chunky Chips is a plus, but even that went awry once. Mid-meal, I inadvertently knocked the last half of my chips off the plate onto the floor and whilst I awkwardly tried to clean up my mess, was completely ignored by the staff even though I felt eyes on me. Look, I never would have expected nor even asked for replacement chips because I dropped them myself, but maybe at least acknowledge and offer to take the soiled food away instead giving me uncomfortable stares?
Anyhow, in all honesty, despite its popularity, GBK is a sort of last resort for me. Across the plaza, there is a similarly priced sit-down burger chain with better food and service. read more
