I have been going to this place for 12 years now, every month or so for a haircut. I have changed homes, jobs and other things in my life - but not this place. I am a Data Scientist - so I will let data dictate my reviews below and NOT how " I feel" as all the negative reviewers on here have done. First let me address the negative reviews on here because they are what most people read first- including myself. This place is owned by a Vietnamese family. The son - Calvin speaks and understands English very well because he grew up in this country. His parents understand English but are not the best speakers-so to communicate with them, one needs to be better communicators. One needs to explain to them slowly The results they want, and confirm understanding. The negative reviewers on here must have miscommunicated on what kind of hair treatment(s) they need. Which is why they didn't get the anticipated results. I know for a fact that everyone who communicates with them well, love this place. So, to the negative reviewers - it's NOT on the people who run and work this place, it's ON YOU that you got sub par results. Which is because you did NOT communicate well. Now let me address my experience. Calvin is the BEST-he has the uncanny ability to understand what kind of haircut will look best on a person. He points to a chart with different haircuts, makes recommendations and then cuts hair based on feedback and mutual agreed upon decision. Not only that he provides suggestions, remembers the custom haircut style I used last time (even when I forget it myself - and that happens often), and then goes and does it. I will keep going to this place for a haircut unless I move to a different state, which is unlikely. I am always delighted with the results - and not only that, over the years everyone who I know, compliments me on the haircut I get at this place. The haircut at this place for men cost $12, - guys, this is as cheap as it gets. I tip him $3, but many customers tip them $5 or even $10 for a haircut, that's almost a 100% tip! No one tips that much unless these folks exceed the expectations - each time. When I first started going to this place, Calvin hadn't started working here yet. I used to get my hair cut by his mom who was simply amazing-professional, polite, loving, careful and nice. I have had Calvin's dad cut my hair a few times - and the key to getting what I needed done, as with anything else in life, is communicating well, clearly and confirming that it is understood. Calvin and his family members are extremely polite, gracious and helpful. They work really hard for their money, they are great at what they do and have been doing this a long long time. I highly recommend this place and I am so grateful that this place exists. read more

Salon Disaster ‍ I was here on Sunday for a Hair cut and the experience was sub par to abysmal. 'The Lady' has her finger up her nose right before she pick up the scissors. Disgusting Then every time I had an opinion on how my hair should be, she would do the stare down. "Sorry can't be done" Please, it is my hair and I am paying you to get the way I want it. They claim they have been there for a long time, does not seem so from the way the customers get treated. Never coming back. read more

I'm not really picky when it comes to hair cut and my hair cut is so simple , it won't take more than 5 or 10 mins to cut . coming to this shop , there is a younger gentle man who give ok hair cut and there is a older man who happened to give me hair cut today and he is The worst . I do not have any complain on his attitude(in fact he seems nice ) but the fact that he ruin my hair and he is not paying attention what so ever on how I want my hair cut is not acceptable , after leaving this shop my hair was so bad , I had to pay another shop again to just fix part of the mess he done to my hair , and now I have to wait until my hair grow in some area so I can fix other parts he messed up . I encourage all the folks specially men to stay a way from this shop and getting hair cut here . read more

I hate to give small business owners a bad rating, but in this case, they deserve the two stars. I've been going to this place since 2010 as you can see from my previous review, and yet I was treated very poorly today. First of all, Tammy, the lady who always did my hair did my Keratin straitening treatment for the second time today. The first time it was done in May, it turned out nice and straight. A few days ago I got it done again and I haven't gotten it colored or done anything to it since May and it didn't turn out quite as straight, but it was straight enough. I thought that was due to my hair still being slightly damp after she flat ironed it when it was still damp. Anyways, the next day it was a huge frizzy mess again! The left side was more frizzy than the right side, but the right side still wasn't completely straight. I did NOT wash it or put it up in any clips or a ponytail since then like I was told to. So of course I called Tammy back and asked her to redo my hair. I paid $100 for this treatment after all. I specifically asked her if she'd charge me anything to get it redone. Not that she should have. She said no problem, don't worry about it. Doesn't that imply that she's not going to charge me anything at all? She insisted that my frizzy hair was straight, implying that there is NO need to fix it like she said she would. Well, I kept showing her where the waves and frizz still were, and she said no. She then changed her mind and said, OK if you PAY $10 for the wash and $15 for the blow drying. I then told her that's not fair as I already paid her that price plus a 20% tip last time. I've always tipped her at least %15-20 depending on what she did in the past. She wouldn't budge, so I said OK. Then this Asian guy who has a little bit of a beard and a mustache who looks like he's in his 30's with dark skin yelled at me to calm down. I was upset of course since I wasn't being taken seriously and I wasn't even yelling! He also said that he has a customer there, but hey, I've been their customer up until this day since 2010, so don't I deserve to voice my opinion when I'm not happy? According to him, it doesn't seem like it! I then told him to not yell at me of course and that if Tammy had any issues with me, that she can talk to me herself. Well, later this idiotic jerk who surprisingly is the owner according to what I found out later, had the nerve to insult me after I told Tammy that I don't appreciate being talked down to like a child. Then he said that I was acting like one. WTF? How rude! I told him again to NOT yell at me! He then finally stopped yelling at me! I have NEVER ever in my life been YELLED at and INSULTED by ANY hairdresser that I've been to in my life! I'm a grown adult woman and I expect to be treated like one! I should've started finding another place to go to after Tammy tried to rip me off one time by charging me an extra $10 for a haircut that she doesn't even offer blow drying for! She charges for every small thing! A haircut for a woman for long hair clearly states on the sign for prices that it cost $20. Not $20 and up! I had to stand my ground with her and refuse to come back there that time that she did that. She finally gave in and said OK, OK, it'll be $20 for you from now on. My husband told me that whatever price is advertised for an item, merchants have to honor that price even if that item actually costs $200.Tammy did not try to tell that guy to stop yelling at me like she should've have. She said nothing at all! She told me afterwards to forget about it. Right! Anyways, I paid the $25 which I never should've had to pay for a wash and a blow dry and an additional $25 for a hot oil treatment. Although the redo turned out fine, I refuse to go back to a place like that again. read more

Stay away from this place, it is a joke! I wonder if they are required some certifications at all to get the license and open the business. I tried to get my hair blown out and it was a complete disaster. It was like my little sister trying to do my hair. The lady doesn't even know how to use the blower or the styler! I really hate giving a bad review to a local business, but I would cut my head off before I let her touch my hair again. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

I had high hopes for this place and keep giving them a second chance even after several mediocre to poor experiences. Given most service industry etiquette is if you don't receive what you asked for the least you could do is offer a refund or a free haircut next time around. Calvin cuts my hair and the hair of my two sons. I don't go to anyone else. I am very picky with my haircuts. Other places I have gone to in the past do not cut my hair exactly the way I like it. I am an Asian male, making my hair very difficult to shape, especially on the sides. He knows how to cut it the way I like it. He is very consistent. read more

Always look sharp when done here. All three have cut my hair a few times, but I usually wait for Calvin who remember exactly how I like my hair cut. Very reasonable pricing. Friendly service. I've been getting my hair cut here for maybe 7-8 years, and now that I've moved across town I STILL drive half an hour out of my way to get my Gorgeous on. read more

Just TRIED to have my hair cut, the worst hair cut I have had so far. The older guy cut my hair and it wasn't even a complicated style and he left my hair completely uneven! I tried to explain to him that it was not even, he doesn't understand a word of english, he tried again and after he messed up again! I ran out of patience and asked to go #3 all over! BUT lesson learned, it's worth going elsewhere around here and maybe paying couple of bucks more. read more

Tammy is great! She does wonderful service for hair and Nails. Price is reasonable with a quality service.

I just got my second haircut at Gorgeous Hair and Nails and was again very impressed with the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It appears to be a proudly run family business in a small shopping area with plenty of parking. Calvin, the barber, did an excellent job. He took the time to do it right and the price was right. I highly recommend this place. read more
