There is little I can say to recommend Dave and Gorge Automotive. He had my 85 VW VANIGAN in his yard for 1.5 ÷ YEARS with every excuse every spoken. Granted it was brought to him after being a cpl years. with George Ramirez in his shop next to our airport. AND it Still isn't running reliabily. This little shop in Hood River saved the day for me! A friend and I were headed from Portland to Hood River for some wine tasting . On the freeway my car started making some awful noises. This shop was a short distance from the highway. The guy there was willing to stop what he was doing to take a look at my car. It turned out some bolts were missing from my rear breaks. It caused the dust shield to bend to the point it was touching the wheel and making the noise. He bent the dust shield back into place and also found some bolts to secure everything properly. This place saved our trip! Our car started overheating as we were passing through town so we had to get a tow truck. We are from Salem so we were a little ways away from home. I called Gorge Automotive desperately trying to get someone to take us in last minute. The gentlemen that runs this one man shop told us to get it towed to him and he would look at it that same day. Our radiator had cracked and he just so happened to own they same model, make and year as our car which he had just ordered a new radiator for. What are the chances! He had us up and running within the next hour and charged us for the parts and $100 for an hour's of work. This is trustworthy and great spot to get your car checked at! read more

Dont go here!!! BEWARE!! Dave had my car for over a month for a non starting issue. after a month I was ready to take somewhere else and he charged me a few hundred dollars for "looking" at my vehicle. he even tore the car apart and to put everything back the way it was it would be additional money!!! This man should not be in business, what a sham. I had to pay him just to get my car back in worst shape than when he got it. read more

my truck broke down and i was pulling our camp trailer headed back home to longview WA.after a trip on the snake river. we called Gorge Automotive and we talked to Dave it was after hours and he told us we could park our trailer on his shop property and he would look at our truck in the morning. the next morning Dave checked the truck out, i had a rear axle gears that were damaged and had to be replaced. it was going to take 3 days to get the parts, dave drove to Portland and picked up the parts himself and got me back on the road a day earlier. but thats not all he did for us Dave let us use his car to get things from the store. When I say Dave went above and beyond to help me, I really mean it. I was traveling across the country and happened to break down a ways out of Hood River. After some back and forth with my roadside assistance, they said they could tow it to Gorge Automotive. I called ahead and found out he actually wasn't working that day or all week, but instead of sending me on my way, he and his girlfriend DROVE OUT to me, filled my car with oil, and drove it back to his shop. Unfortunately the issue couldn't be fully resolved but they worked so hard to get me and my cat to my ultimate destination. I fully cannot express enough how well they took care of me in a very dire situation. They treated me like a fellow human in need, not a customer. So yes, I would give them ten stars if I could. I was on my way out of Hood River to Seattle (in the pouring rain!) when my car overheated due to a torn belt. Called a tow truck, but was sure I wasn't going to find any repair shop that would be able to help me on a Sunday afternoon. But Dave answered the phone at Gorge Automotive and said he could take a look at my car that day! Tow truck was behind schedule, so it didn't get fixed until the next morning, but I appreciated his willingness to help ASAP. Dave was very communicative and helpful explaining everything over the phone. Just needed a new belt and was good to go. Knowing I had a long trip ahead of me, he advised I do a test drive around town to make sure everything was running smoothly before hitting the road. The couple who run this are quite possibly the nicest people I have met since moving to Hood River. When the transmission went out in my van, he checked it out, gave me the cheapest quote I heard to fix it, and let me hang the car there for another couple days while I tried to make my schedule work around getting the car back. Always around my schedule, the lady I spoke too was quick to call back and was incredibly nice on the phone as well. Definitely will be where I come back again. read more

My front rotor was screeching extremely loud while driving back home from a trip. Stopped in Hood River to see if I could get it looked at. These guys fixed it in five minutes and sent me on my way. Super nice. read more

I brought my car here with a broken timing belt and it took Dave 6 WEEKS to fix it. His excuse for the first 3 weeks was that it was snowed into the side of the road and he couldn't tow it in. I had a friend drive me out from Portland so I could shovel it out myself. It still took him another 3 weeks to even put it in the shop. He stopped answering my calls so I called the Hood River PD at one point to have them forcibly get my keys back so I could take it to another shop. They said they have gotten calls exactly like this many times before because he "only works on cars when he really needs money". This dude is a con man. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!! read more

I called Dave this morning because my car was stuck in park. He informed me that he was leaving for the weekend, which was fine with me because the other place I had called was behind a week. He then asked me where I was located and I let him know that I was close to his shop. NOW comes the awesome part, he told me that he would stop by the house and try to temporarily fix the problem until he got back into town. I don't know if one star is deserving, although very nice individuals, it was impossible to get a hold of them to see if my car had even been looked at yet. When I was promised it would be done on a Wednesday after taking it in Monday they had yet to look at it on Thursday. Impossible to reach, frustrating service, waste of time. I recommend not taking your car here if you want it to get looked at in a timely manner. read more

I needed my waterpump replaced and made an appointment with Dave to have it done at 8 AM. I waited until 9. People that knew him kind of laughed and said he works on his own timeline and I would be lucky if he showed up before noon. He seems to have that reputation around town. Most places I called when I couldn't wait any longer all said the same thing, a good mechanic but very unreliable. He obviously does not care about customer service or his reputation. I would suggest people take their business to to someone that cares. I ended up at Johns Automotive outside Hood River, they took me right away and did a great job. read more
