This is one of my favorite spots on Friday & Saturday nights and I'm not just saying that because I live a block away. This is one of Vancouver's only Techno clubs. The music is always great and the sound system is definitely one of the best in all the clubs downtown. The bass is just unreal, it makes your brain vibrate in your skull and the atmosphere is like no other in the city. I've been coming to this club on and off since it first opened and it's transformation over time is unreal. When you look closely you can see that everything in this club has a dark artistic beauty. From the visuals to the lights to the decor, it's extremely awe inspiring and creates a really unique vibe throughout.
I saw a review by someone that said $40 cover charge is pricey especially because they don't serve alcohol. Ok so, as a regular to this club I feel I should explain a few things.
Only Men pay $40 to get in.
Ladies are free before 3:30am and then only $20 thereafter.
The reason the cover charge is so steep for men is because:
a) there are more men than women (this is true for any club in Vancouver)
b) they don't serve alcohol. (they have to make their money somewhere)
This is a late night Licensed Dance Club AKA Legal After Hours... NOT A BAR. If they served alcohol they would get a huge fine and repeated offenses would definitely result in getting shut down for good. Besides, even if they obtained a liquor license (which is really hard to get in Vancouver) - It would be pointless because It is illegal to sell alcohol after 3AM on weekends in Vancouver, with the exception of special licenses for long weekends, sporting events and holidays like NYE.
Deviating from the topic here a bit, but I want to add that there's a really good reason why Vancouver has a 3AM cutoff. Have you seen what happens to Vancouver when people are allowed to drink all night? I was out at the Granville Room just this past long weekend and they had a special license to serve until 4AM and it was brutal. People were so drunk they were falling everywhere and acting like idiots (I was completely sober as I do not drink in excess)
If I recall correctly, back about 12-15 years ago, Vancouver's last call time was extended from 2AM to 4AM. 2 hours doesn't seem like it would make a huge difference, but believe me it did. People were getting into way more fights, more accidents & drunk injuries, there were even shootings on the streets multiple weekends in a row... it was awful, the streets were not safe.
The people that come to Vancouver to drink are not responsible enough to handle looser liquor laws. That's just the way it is. So now its 3AM and I think it works well for Vancouver. As for complaining about the price of cover, don't be cheap. Take it out of your nights drinking budget cause it's the same price of buying 2 Double Highballs anywhere on the Granville Strip on a Fri/Sat night. If you can't afford to pay those prices then you have no business going out anyways.
If you like to party and dance here then support the club, help it keep it's doors open... pay the cover. read more
