Each time you go through a house, they rip the pass so you can't go back--but you can take as long as you want to explore. We went for my daughter's birthday, and our whole group had so much fun. Once we got through the first portion of the forest, we were separated into our individual groups. There were multiple checkpoints throughout where they separated groups again when we'd catch up to others. It was not the most scared I've ever been, but it was fun to find our way around the forest only by candlelight. I do not recommend for people who have a hard time walking on uneven ground. There are lots of opportunities to trip if you're not careful.

Having the screening at the California Railroad Museum was pretty cool since it was a fairly large screen and ample theater seating. From beginning to end, they made sure we were in the know about what to expect, and their emails requesting materials needed from us was very concise and filled with lots of helpful information. Their team is so attentive and it's clear they have the filmmakers' best interests at heart, which you would expect from a film festival but surprisingly, that's not always the case. Our team had a wonderful time and we look forward to submitting future films in the future and being part of the festivities again. Highly recommend this festival to submit to for filmmakers of all experience levels with a story to tell!

Hands down the greatest film event in the region!…read more I've been to a LOT of great film festivals... all over the world. Sacramento is generally known for being a cow-town as it relates. With the exception of the Sacramento International Film Fest, you gotta go to Nevada City to find anything else worth the ticket in this region. The other shows in town are mostly circle jerks where a clique of local ass-hat "filmmakers" get together for a weekend and pretend they are cooler than everyone else while subjecting audiences to films even their moms wouldn't pay to see! By contrast, the Sacramento International Film Festival (AKA The Sacramento Film Festival) is a true gem! I've attended for several years now, and have found a consistently delightful showcase of international and indie cinema. Over the years I've seen a fantastic documentary on Tower Records by native son, Colin Hanks. I've seen some truly beautiful films from Russia and Bolivia and some unique, inventive showcases like their "Fashion On Film" and "48 Hour" offerings. They even had a couple Hollywood type films complete with stars. I did NOT hold this against the fest as even the Hollywood offerings were fun. Now in all honesty, this year there were one or two turkeys that slipped into a couple of the local short showcases but mercifully, they were very short and generally speaking, did not impact my over-all enjoyment of what was otherwise a wonderful program. Yep, I said it, this fest even managed to find some decent LOCAL films. While I've been regularly attending this event for several years, I'd originally thought it was actually younger than some of the other poo-butt operations in town. Upon examination, I find that The Sacramento Film Festival started its life as the "Sacramento Festival of Cinema" in 1995. That means they are the original all-genre, film festival in town. I guess I was fooled because in 2005 they changed the name when the long-time managing director became the festival director. Why is this important? Because the event has basically had the same management for nearly a quarter of a century! Now that is saying something in a world of "here today, gone today" art events. The sheer fact that they could make this long it in a culture dessert like Sacramento for this long is a feat! But it is no wonder they have thrived this long. With excellent hospitality and fun programs, they are at once arty without being stuffy. This year I caught an amazing documentary on the justice system by the Public Defender of San Francisco called "Defender" as well as a phenomenal doc on the West Coast funk and soul scene. I'm sorry I forget the name of that one but it was awesome. They even had a tongue-in-cheek "Retrospective" of American Pie, complete with the film's star, who serenaded us after the movie with a mini-rock show on board the Delta King. No band camp though, just a rock show ;) Oh, one last thing. In addition to being a hell of a program, the venues are wonderful. The Delta King, for example, is a great place to watch a movie! Believe it. I've been several times over the years and The Sacramento Film Festival always screens at beautiful and historic venues like the Crest, The Tower, or the Crocker. Some of these wannabe groups are showing at shoddy locations with a less than "theater quality" presentation. And I get it. Sometimes its hard to rent the Crest but then don't be a holier-than-thou prick if you are screening in a Beer hall! Anyway, the fest has screenings throughout the year but their MAIN event is usually in late April. So do yourself a favor. If you are a fan of independent cinema and want a truly world-class presentation of wonderful films by people who truly care about the art and their audience, go here. This is my first time attending a Pride Festival and so yesterday our little family decided to go…read moreall out, rainbows and all!! Tickets were purchased online a month before in case they sold out! Lines to get in can be long! Thankful for those offering water in this heat! I love both men and women and always believed love is love! My grandpas are gay and one of them is unfortunately passing and I wanted to also go in honor of him! There was a protester in line with a big sign, yelling at people and I stood up to him! Not ok to judge others and actually sir God loves all people! Our toddler and I enjoyed dancing to the music, but some songs were not age appropriate. Volunteers of Sac Pride were so sweet, bubbly and complimentary, my husband donated $5 and they did a cheerleading trick! If you donate $10 they'll also give you a button! ~Purchases~ One of the churches were advertising these cooling neck scarves and we were so hot we said we'll take 3! Our toddler felt so much better that she got a little more pep in her step! Such sweet ladies, fun designs and only $4-$5 each! At another booth I spied Disney crock charms and remembered my husband was in need of some and they were just $3 each! He picked out Disney couples, how cute is he? He treated us to lunch and unfortunately the Vietnamese food truck didn't have the best banh mi, but I will say the egg roll and lychee lemonade is fantastic!! I loved how sweet the vendors were offering free sunglasses, sunscreen, fake tattoos, glitter showers and spin the wheels! My hubby loved his sunnies and our toddler got a sensory sticker! Even the Sacramento Children's Museum had a tent with sensory bins that included ice and toys and more! My toddler also loved the paint dot pens and stamps! They also gave us rainbow leis! Be aware no outside food or drink allowed, you may bring empty reusable bottles and use water refilling station! I'd suggest an insulated one so it stays cool! Not all vendors were cashless despite the website. Wear sunscreen, bring fans, misters etc to beat the heat! I'd love to attend the parade next time if our schedule allows! 4/5 star experience! We were able to take a behind the scenes tour on Free Museum Day. It was amazing. Their collection is incredible- lots of stuff from Sutter's Fort (donated by Californians during its time as the State History Museum), the Panama Pacific International Exposition, and furniture from some well known Californians (Reagan and the Roosevelts). The tour was the best part. Staff said that public tours will be made available by appointment for a small fee soon. They are also working on implementing a volunteer program. While the facility stores collections from nearly all state parks (over 200), the Railroad Museum, State Indian Museum, and Sutter's Fort are heavily represented. In addition to their object collection the facility houses the California State Parks Archive. If you are looking for materials about the state parks you should contact their archivists to make an appointment to see the items. The facility also houses an archaeological center open to study and an incredible center for online school interaction (http://www.ports.parks.ca.gov/pages/22922/files/ports_handout_2014.pdf) I was really impressed by their friendly staff and the access we received. As the earlier reviewer noted no large backpackss, food, or water is allowed nor can you take photos on tours. These measures ensure the safety of the priceless objects they are charged with caring for. It is standard practice for museum and archival collections. Sadly their hours are limited and only allow you to see their main exhibit. I really hope there are more tours scheduled for the near future. They've been open for less than a year and it seems like things change quickly so call ahead to see if tours are available before you go.
