Totally unreliable! The bus hasn't even shown up 3 of the last 4 times I waited for a ride home. Calling GoRaleigh has been useless, they have lied to me every time, claiming that the bus is arriving in 2-3 minutes, but it never does. Me and (at least) 3 others every day wait for the 4 REX hospital inbound bus for more than 1 hour, we see 2-4 buses pass us going outbound bus but this somehow is never the case with this 4 inbound bus. Very unreliable , highly inconvenient and most often with no bus arrivals. Some of us are on our way to work and can't be stood up an hour by this bus, others are on their way to class. It is a huge inconvenience and unreliable system. Go Raleigh bus system, can we please devise a better more efficient bus flow, especially with the 4? 2.50 everyday is not that cheap in general, much less to have very inadequate unsatisfactory service constantly. The city is growing, people are gravitating more towards the bus system. You've got to get with the pace. It would have been more honest to give this 0.5 a star, but yelp wants me to be modest. In short, Please do way better. read more

GoRaleigh has made great strides to improve in the past couple of years since I started living in the city. I do not have a car, so I've had to depend on public transportation and ride-sharing. A majority of the time, it's great. It's efficient, I get to where I need to go in a timely manner (for a bus system) and the drivers are usually quite friendly. I want to preface by saying I enjoy taking the bus, and will continue to do so, as it is reliable and continues to get better as the funding comes in. As with many public services, it's not perfect. There are times the bus is a little too early, or significantly late, however that is not a consistent issue and may depend on the route you take or who your driver is, or if they needed to stop for a significant amount of time to strap in a passenger in a wheelchair. Some drivers are less friendly than others. We all have our bad days, so I get it. Less acceptable, however, are instances where the bus doesn't show up at all. These things do happen, though extremely infrequent, and it's probably due to a freak emergency; I wouldn't know, because they don't report it on their website or TransLoc app when a bus is down. The only other recurring issue (which I have brought up to their customer service) is that some of their buses have trouble reading the 'smart card', and it's a gamble if your bus driver will understand that it's their bus' NFC reader that needs to be rebooted, or if they'll assume you're trying to swindle them. That will depend on the driver, and thankfully it's become an exceedingly rare occurrence as they switch over to newer tech. Those hiccups aside, GoRaleigh is a fairly efficient system, and it's been dependable enough to get me to work and back with few issues. Raleigh has been working hard to improve it's public transportation, and it shows. I hope that the problems I have mentioned are further worked on and ironed out. It can't be perfect, but they can definitely continue to work on commanding a tightly run ship with higher standards. Bus driving isn't an easy job, but that's why they need to hire the best of the best to ensure efficiency. Had the issues I mentioned not been so prevalent, I would have issued 5 stars. I hope in 2020, I will be able to amend my review to reflect their expected and anticipated improvements. read more

It gets the job done especially if you don't have a car but that's the only good thing about it. The bus drivers at time won't stop at certain stops even if you pull the cord for God knows whatever reason. One time a bus driver wanted to keep on going even though I was standing at the bus stop. When I waved at him, he finally stopped after passing me by 10-20 feet to give me a piece of his mind. His reasoning was that I wasn't there soon enough and that I should have waited for the next bus, which only comes once in an hour. Yeah sure, whatever. read more
