I do believe it is family owned an independent and that's one thing I love about New Jersey is there is plenty of delis and other food options that are still independent! They must have over 50 bagel sandwich options here for you to choose from. So many choices and just pick one that works well with you and roll with it. My husband had one of their breakfast bagels that had a lot of pretzel salt on the bottom and I was there for it. It's very salty and not for everyone but I loved it and I kept sneaking little bites of his bagel where I could. There's about five or six tables to sit at and it's a small place but so glad it's there and hope they stick around for a while! Enter Boonton Bagels. Just like Time for a Bagel in Morris Plains, you walk into a long, narrow building where it's awkward to find a place to stand and wait. I ordered a double egg, and cheese on a poppy - with egg prices as of 2025, I'll take them where I can get them. Food came out fairly quick, and I had a chance to look at all the spreads - again, typical bagel joint. The verdict? Not quite ready to commit yet. I enjoy the poppy saturation of the bagel, done well so most of them actually stayed on as I ate. I requested no toast, my bagel was untoasted. But the bagel was a bit thin and underflavored to earn a 5th star. The egg was fresh cooked, cheese was a bit sparse, again maybe a little lacking in flavor. Overall? A pleasant breakfast nook in Boonton. If the other places nearby don't top it, I can see myself coming back here, trying different bagels (like the French Toast!) and schmears, maybe working this into my regular food rotation. I got a white chocolate latte with oat milk and it was so good! They make the oat milk in house and you can truly tell because the flavor of it is just deliciously strong . The owner was there and he is just amazing. You can chat with him about coffee and spend hours on end. Their coffee is the only one I've ever tried that actually will keep me up till 4 AM even if I drank it at 12 PM , so beware!

What a delightful tea shop. One of my most authentic experiences in the US, comparable to my…read moreexperiences in tea shops in Taiwan. I actually came across this place on an Instagram post and decided to check it out. It seems that normally a tea ceremony is something we'd have to book ahead of time (and pay for, apparently) but we didn't know. So, we wandered in and the shopkeep started telling us about teas and she let me smell a green one. I asked if I could try it, she generously said yes, and that kicked off an unplanned tea ceremony. It started off with just my husband and I, but as other people came into the shop, the shopkeep invited them to join us at the table so by the end there was another couple, a woman, the shopkeep's husband and the shop's assistant hanging out together and drinking tea. We learned all about the villages where the teas came from, the differences between some of them, how old the teas are, how the shop came to be, even about the tea table we sat at. Super cool vibe, loved the coming together of strangers bonding for hours over a shared love of tea, but one that I'm not sure can be replicated because again, these tea tastings are meant to be booked ahead of time with your party, and are meant to be a paid service (though in Taiwan, tea tastings are free). We got lucky because the shop wasn't busy and people had cancelled their tea bookings due to an upcoming snow storm. I will most likely come back for more tea at some point. Even if a spontaneous tea ceremony never happens again, I count my blessings that such an experience even happened once, and would still recommend this shop to any Chinese tea lover.
