I took a beginners class at KitesurfPR and they were fantastic through and through. When I first contacted them via email they were responsive and informative, and when we got closer to the date of my lesson they were very flexible and made sure the weather conditions were reasonable in terms of me getting value for money.
I ended up getting a three hour lesson with Freddy Zamora, who I later discovered to be a star of the Puerto Rico kiteboarding scene. Freddy was phenomenal, patient, safety conscious and a great teacher. After going over how to rig the kite, KitesurfPR takes you straight into the water, which I definitely prefer to extensive land lessons. Freddy showed me how to power up and steer the kite while body-dragging, make basic maneuvers, and also how to self-water rescue if anything were to happen with the gear, etc.
I am going to need more than three hours of lessons to ride and maneuver with any confidence, and would love to take more with KitesurfPR. Unfortunately I was only on vacation in Puerto Rico and don't live there permanently. I think six hours over a couple of days would have been great for me, in terms of getting to a point where I can continue practicing without instruction. Even though the kite I was using was literally brand new and I had a one-on-one lesson with a very competent teacher, the prices for lessons were far cheaper than places on the mainland, at least compared to the mid-Atlantic area.
Five stars, and I'll definitely be a returning customer when I make it back to Puerto Rico. read more
